Brandonia: All the cool kids are drinking Sailor Jerry at the minute bryn!

It might be for the best if there's no more play today-not enough time to score a lot of runs but plenty of time to lose a few wickets. Be better if we can start again in the morning.

I love pear cider. In fact I love any cider

Yes, eight of them.

Absolute fantastic batsman. Awesome to watch
dalesgirl
Thats so sad Boucher retiring. What a way to have to go. It looked a horrific injury
Update
Providing the weather hold we're trying to get a 5.30pm re-start. There will be 19 overs remaining today.

roker1973
mark boutcher retires from cricket great cricketer
tomb
What a nightmare we've had with the weather, including the back end of last season we can hardly get a proper game in. Almost every match I book off work is washed out including three wet ones at the end of last season. Sure England don't have this much bad luck with the weather in their test series, otherwise there wouldnt be any whitewashes, perhaps there should be an option of a 5th day for lost days due to rain.
roker1973
just got in lads, so no cricket again, we might get a draw out ov this game lol

Well I enjoyed my day on Saturday. Ordered tickets the week before and was surprised to get in the Don Robson which had sold out weeks ago. £60 is a bit much in the recession but if you want it you're going to pay for it.
chrissafc
£60 in temp seats seems a bit odd when i got front row upper county durham for £55
salmon
Just got home, catching up on chat.I paid £60.00 last Sat.in temporary seats, awful, plus still waiting for my car parking ticket (£7 ) to arrive

I thought the Chuckle Brothers were brilliant last year. Fair reporting as we outplayed them. Comparing Adrian Shankar (remember him?) with George Weah's cousin. I don't know what you lad's want,

The rain arrives...and we're off...
2:54pm
tomb
The forecast is fairly poor, just like it is here. I wouldnt say must win as the weather is out of her ends but we cant afford to lose, a draw with bonus points would be a reasonable return if we can't win it.

Durham 125-4
Durham 125-4 after Stokes is bowled by Shantry for 22. Michael Richardson joins Benkenstein (14*).

Exactly mid wicket, block 38 in the red seats.
chrissafc
BrianT mentioned these 2 earlier. Ice cream and pigeons were a topic of conversation last season

Worcester lads were talking about clouds and goats last season. About as exciting as a tin of rice pudding.

Where is Martin Emerson today!! Is it just me,but I feel I'm listening to the Chuckle Brothers.Slowly giving up the will to live!

safcluke
£55 for us on sat, upper county durham stand front row.
tomb
All these grounds paying for developments costing a fortune and yet the prediction is that Test Cricket is falling in importance, ashes aside. I hope we're not going to see counties going bankrupt chasing the dream ,one ashes match every 8 years and a few one dayers. Hampshire and Cardiff vying for tests also these days.
Mackem_Dave
I paid £65 on Saturday, bought 2 months ago. £75 for the ashes, but I think the price is now £80
safcluke
I'd rather pay £400 a day than sit in them crap seats.
tomb
Sitting in temporry seats isnt great, usually no leg room and hard to get in and out of seats plus further from the main facilities. I think the money has ran out or things have cost more than we expected sp there has been a problem with the development.
chrissafc
our ground has just finished some development in between the media centre and don robson stand
chrissafc
£65 on saturday? assuming you mean the ODI ticket prices, i paid £55 which i thought was the highest price ticket? apologies if you mean for next year
Mackem_Dave
All of the other test grounds are being developed. I heard rumours that it is only 50:50 that the ashes test will go ahead at Durham due to the lack of capacity.
safcluke
Is it only £65 in the crap seats for Ashes?
chrissafc
the ashes is a year away
2XI
The 2XI have been braving the rain all morning but it's finally got too heavy! They are 150-4 as they leave the field.
2:17pm
Mackem_Dave
My problem with the ground is that promises were made to get the ashes which hasn't happened. Having temp stands around 1/3 of ground with crap seating while paying £65 on Saturday is disgraceful if that is what we get next year.
tomb
We've had grey, grey and more grey, with a healthy dose of rain.
Response to tomb
There's a bit of blue Sky here - some grey clouds, but we're Ok at the minute. Apparently there were forecasts of rain for 3pm but they've been so wrong the last few weeks I'm ignoring them!
2:14pm

Sounds like he's been lucky to survive thst long? Hows the weather looking Yvette or anyone down there, its been grim all day near Durham.
Durham 94-3
Muchall is caught by Mitchell off Shantry for 25. Durham 94-3 after 31 overs.
2:10pm
tomb
It sounds like a horrible injury
safcluke
You lot really need to see the video of Boucher sledging one of the Zimbabwe batsman, its absolutely great,
chrissafc
he's just announced his retirement Brian. and yes i remember those commentators from last season. they were on about ice cream and pigeons on the last day
safcluke
AD De Villiers will probably keep wicket for the tour then.
BrianT
Boucher has retired from tour after being hit in the eye by a bail. He hasn't retired from cricket as far as I am aware. Nice to hear the radio pair again. By far the most entertaining in my opinion.
Durham 89-2
Durham 89-2 after Stoneman is caught by Solanki off Richardson for 38. Stokes joins Muchall (25*)

This was one of the main discussion points at the last forum. Along with the hotel being delayed or not happening at all.
chrissafc
just having the option to be able to host them would be nice for the club, especially the international ones

Sky pick cb40 day nighters, so Durham cant control that. We last played one of them in August 2009 v Somerset.

chrissafc

chrissafc
potential to bring a lot more income into the area.
chrissafc
it's a shame about the floodlights, but i guess you can't argue with the residents near the ground.
safcluke
Huge coup for England.
safcluke
Boucher retired? Wow.
chrissafc
this jennings is some player mind.
We're back!
Back on after lunch - Durham 72-1...2XI: Durham 115-3 after Jennings (41*) and Singh (58*) are retired to give the others a go!
1:43pm
tomb
No chance of floodlights, the residents have refused (according to David Harker)as chrissafc says
chrissafc
i think the floodlights is a residents issue (i think)
Ed Syers
I think we could do a lot worse than get a new stand up before he ashes, but for now the temporary ones do the job. Top of my to-do list would be floodlights though.
tomb
I think he might mean the temporary stands there instead of that part being completed, I dont know, but the ground generally looks excellent. Very sad for Boucher, sounds serious.
chrissafc
South Africa wicketkeeper Mark Boucher retires from international cricket after sustaining an eye injury during the tour of England
chrissafc
just readone on of mackem dave's comments from earlier "Don't get me started on the standard of the Riverside a year before the Ashes" - just me who thought the ground looked in great nick on saturday?
tomb
Its a shame, that there couldnt have ben a farewell match for Diva (like there was for Killer)so the fans could show their appreciation for him, or will he play in the PRO 40?
IAIN6W
Great to see the return of the 4 day stuff.Good start. Agree with all the comments about Divo. Wish him and his family well.Hope Harmy comes back firing on all cylinders, would be sad to see his career finish with a whimper.
chrissafc
delighted for richardson, long overdue call up. just hope he does himself a big favour and has a good game
tomb
Safcluke, I meant a month for other teams, 2nds, not first team, sorry
tomb
He's been playing cricket for weeks man, maybe a month! These things happen, lets hope we can keep the good start going, rain is forecast though!
safcluke
But can we just back Richardson instead of the players who aren't here?
safcluke
Plenty rumours why Blackwell isn't playing.
tomb
Its not Chris's fault if he has to read stuff that is blatantly wrong on here (Blackwells fitness etc). The players will talk to you at the games, its like when people assumed Plunkett was injured on here, everytime he wasnt picked for the 4 dayers, again, Wrong! And no I dont know everything, but stuff thats obvious to everyone... Chris was right to correct!
chrissafc
well done lads
Lunch
Durham 72-1 at lunch - back shortly!

mitchell johnson was sound. predictable it was, doherty was the first one out and on the bus
chrissafc
ridgeley - i just think it's rude to put something out in the public domain. you may beg to differ but never mind. i'd love to see blackwell back in the team
safcluke
Mitchell Johnson was great. Absolutely brilliant. As was Matthew Wade.
chrissafc
. aye he ignored everyone on saturday. brett lee was very good despite struggling to walk.

I must admit I was annoyed with Michael Clarke. All the Aussies signed autographs except him.

Ridgeley, everyone at the ground knew there was a problem, its just some people were claiming on here that he is only in the seconds until he recovers from injury.
Ridgeley
Chrissafc why dont you just tell us the crack with blackwell rather than dropping hints????
tomb
When Blackwell and Cook were in Austins recently, they kept their distance, and didnt look or speak to each other. Somethings gone on, but would rather have Blackie in the team than out of it.
safcluke
Dont fancy wasting a tenner to watch adam reed and the likes. Anyway, back to the cricket.....
chrissafc
I will keep an eye on it, will be plenty time to decide.
safcluke
It will depend whos managing the team, O'Neil or Ball...
chrissafc
cheers luke, i'm off that day for middlesex day 1, if its down as an XI game i might just stay back after the game for the members Q&A
chrissafc
i just hope muchall can push on and get a massive score.
safcluke
ow Chris, that hartlepool game is down as an XI game. Might not bother now like.

Are some people seriously saying he's out th team cos of fitness? He's never been fit! He's been playing cricket for weeks and left out of the T20's, out of favour, lets hope he and Cook can make up if thers a problem.
safcluke
Why is he still in the team?
dalesgirl
Muchall always starts off like that. Here's hoping it doesn't cost him his wicket

he's obviously fit enough to play, just not selected. i've mentioned this a few times over the last month or so. clearly out of favour

If he can score some big runs in the 2nd half of the season, that will be very timely for us. I would expect him to bat higher than 6 and take some responsiblity of some of the other batsman. I don't doubt Colly has been a good player, I just feel there was a bit of a myth about the extent of his success for Durham. Anyway, he's not playing today so will turn my attention to the team out there today.
Tristan
blackwell playing for the seconds! along with breesy, harmison, plunkett, brathwaite, smith & muchall this year, you could confuse our firsts with seconds a bit this year
chrissafc
myburgh also living down in london, he may have stuff to sort out now he's staying here.
Tristan
southwood, reading that just had my hairs stand on end a little bit, very well put
2XI update
The 2XI are looking at an 11.15am start v Yorkshire. We won the toss and will bat first. The team is Raine, Jennings, Singh, Blackwell, Breese (c), Pringle, Clark, Wood, Coughlin, Pearce, Brathwaite, Buckley.
11:29am
southwood
A matter of timimg
southwood
Collly has played for Durham since 1996 playing 125 matches to date mostly prior to 2005 when he became more permanent on the England team. His 7000 runs and 108 wickets are only bettered by Benks, Diva and John Lewis. His contribution to Durham is very substantial and occured in the lean years.Possibly not a legend in the same way that Benks ,diva and Ottis are in recent years but he carried the Durham flag on the international stage at that time along with Harmy . Tristan has summed it up well
Ed Syers
Considering the position we're in, I think it's pretty sensible taking it steady.
Tristan
its alright yvette, just remember the run rate can be as low as you like as long as you keep a 0 after the runs scored
Update
Takes a bit of getting used to being back doing four day stuff...Durham 10-0 after 5 overs.
11:20am
Myburgh
Myburgh had a prior commitment this week, which the club has honoured. He is available for four day and one day cricket.
11:18am
Tristan
he is signed for teh cc too, just a matter of registration, or pehaps we've given him a few days off to get his bags packed
Tristan
@tomb - another factor there is colly player for us more through the bad years than the good years by which time he was entrenched in the england side, just a matter of timing really
tomb
I thought he was sined for 4 dayers as well, obviously if he's selected like everyone else
keenasmustard
Is Myburgh not being available till Sunday down to registration or is he just going to play CB40 games?
safcluke
Also good to see Cal Thorp again.
tomb
He did spend his best years with England, thats a fair point. However as a Durham fan rather than an England fan I think of our legends as players who have made significant contributions to Durhams success, particularly in the Championship winnig years, such as Diva, Benks, Onions, even Harmy though he has disapointed lately, and Phil Mustard for his all round contributions. I dont remember Colly making significant contributions to this success,if we survive through his captaincyandruns, yes!

Is Harrison, injured, dropped or rested / rotated do we know? No sign of Brathwaite again, no Claydon and Plunkett well down the pecking order plus Mark Wood, can see why we let Harmy go
Tristan
@tomb the prime years of colly's career have been spent with england, of course we havent seen the best of him but that is true of ever county player who represents england in every form of the game. couldnt be more proud of colly.
tomb
Shame we lost the toss. Interested to see if Rushworth can carry on with his recent good form

10:56am
LV=CC resumes!
A lot of you have been waiting patiently for this...the resumption of the County Championship!
10:56am
tomb
Tristan, you are absolutley right in the sense that he has won the ashes and represented England while being associated with Durham. I just think we havent had the same sort of form from him playing for us.
tomb
Richardson batted well at Colwyn Bay, our best batsman on the day.
Tristan
The fact that collingwood has represented durham ccc worldwide with england makes him a durham legend in my eyes
tomb
I tend to agree with Mackem Dave, I think the resentment actually is to do with the ocntracts players such as Harmy, Colly and Blackwell are on without contributing much, I would say Colly is more of an England legend than a Durham legend, (I know hes a Durham lad)he has been only been an average player for us (fielding aside). All the hype on Look North i think it was last night was about how Colly was ready to lead us out against Worcester, including interviews with Colly confirming this!
dalesgirl
Pleased for Richardson. I've been saying he should be given a chance for a while now
Tristan
Thanks yvette
safcluke
Absolutely delighted for M.Richardson. Hope he goes well.
Response to Tristan
As far as I'm aware, I don't think Diva will be involved with the club following his retirement. I'm not the oracle though!
10:47am
Tristan
I wont get you started if you promise not to start yourself dave ;)
Tristan
Yvette is Diva still gonig to be involved in dccc somehow are all ties cut? possibly coaching or anything like that? I read quotes from him that he still feels he has a lot to offer in one day cricket, not sure if he was volunteering to play limited for us or if he was just saying he would like to or what...?
Mackem_Dave
Sorry for saying it as it is, I must have missed something, perhaps we are top of the CC or qualified for the T20 Q finals..... Don't get me started on the standard of the Riverside a year before the Ashes
Frankjw
Nobody can get everything right all of the time, not even Mackem_Dave
Tristan
Personally i'd say no. It is unfortunate that colly should fail to recover from his hand/wrist injury in time to captain this match but i'm excited about the future under a true durham legend, just as one departs, it is gutting that diva has retired but time waits for no man
Tristan
Does anyone else think Mackem_Dave is in an unusually good mood today?
Mackem_Dave
Does anyone else think the club is in utter chaos? Harmison goes on loan and the comments from Colly are very cryptic. MDV retires the day before a CC game after not playing for a month? Colly is named as captain and is in the squad yesterday yet doesnt play today and Benks is captain. The organisation and communication is a complete shambles.
Tristan
depends how many runs we score ;)

Chrissafc every faith in them. Slight concern that smith hasn't had much batting lately but he's a good player and expect all to do well
Frankjw
Chris - Remaining batsmen need to raise their game, I think they probably will.
chrissafc
