We're off

Sadly we're off here at Worcester...such a shame!

1:09pm

Frankjw

Brian - And I too thought Wimbledon did not play in London now.

BrianT

The girl who asked why Wimbledon was always played in London may have been having a joke. If Jimmy Carr. Vince Cable or some other famous comedian had made a similar observation they would have been hailed as a comic genius.

Frankjw

Ben Harmison batting v S.A.

Frankjw

Brian T - Wimbledon/Worcester/Milton Keynes - all south of Scotch Corner, - another world, usually irrelevant

marchy22

They will once they inspect in 15 mins

chrissafc

amazed they havent called this game off yet

Tristan

hope to see x-britains got dragon's celebrity cricket in the jungle on ice academy soon.

Tristan

im off all. see you next time out

marchy22

Not looking good for any play I think

keenasmustard

The Wombles were a bad influence. Everyone started dropping rubbish so that they could find a use for it.

Tristan

so any chance of play at all today, whats the latest?

tomb

I thought Great Uncle Bulgaria was on Piers Morgan life stories only last year?

Tristan

yes theyre are, i heard them doing a show on radio 2. they were smashing it

BrianT

They're not real Tomb.

tomb

Do the wombles still hang out on Wimbledon common?

keenasmustard

Shame we didn't have a CC game up here this week. Weather's been better than south. We had to accomodate Tom Jones. Still, I gather the club are making an absolute packt out of this concert.

BrianT

Sunny in Sunderland at present. Is Worcester in London, near Wimbledon?

Tristan

it would be just my luck if kent went up and durham went down this year

Tristan

cloudy but bright with blue skies down here

Lumleyender

Hello all Not a fan of t20 myself either. I'd like to post my thanks to the groundstaff for their great work getting the game on last weekend.

safcluke

Frank - He's played every game this season so far, they are resting him ahead of the LVCC promotion push.

Tristan

tbf theyre not playing tubby either so i guess they are resting players :/ they msut be if gbh is playing

Frankjw

Dont worry Tristan, Harmy Junior is playing

Tristan

thats gutting, i was going to go to the match in me durham gear if the weather is ok over the weekend :/

Frankjw

I see Kent have 'dropped/rotated' Mark Davies for their South Africa game. Just in case he plays his usual game and England come calling?

tomb

Same with 40 over games, no one remembers any innings, whereas County games stay long in the memory

BrianT

Last year for example, I went to Headingly on a Sunday, wife went shopping in Leeds Centre, sat with some lovely people from Pontefract and watched a good day's cricket. Can't remember a single T20 game at CLS and I've been to most.

tomb

Anyone hear about the Twitter user who asked: Is Wimbledon always held in London? True story.

Frankjw

A Wimbledon style roof for each county ground, six if you hit the roof, and you can only be caught after hitting the roof if the catch is taken one-handed

tomb

Its sad when a team puts all its focus on the t20s and couldnt care about the 4 day stuff, stand up Leicester, Surrey and Kent over the years to name a few.

BrianT

Isn't it ironic?

Tristan

aside from being utterly pointless yes those are the biggest problems

tomb

Er, hot long days, don't recall that this summer

BrianT

Main gripe about T20 is that it stops us getting four day cricket during June and July when the weather is hot and the days are long.

Frankjw

Happy Birthday Christoff - looks like you will get time to sort the garden out today - If only it would snow on gardens in summer, they all look the same then!

tomb

Carl Froch for Notts and Gary Lineker for Leicestershire. Phil Mitchell for Essex. Who wants to pitch our ideas to the lovely people at Dragons Den then!

Tristan

is it still raining out? i'l get me coat then....

Tristan

how man thats a terrible thing to say brianT. i loved x factor. not as much as x force or the x men themselves but it was a still a decent read....

BrianT

Getting the impression that we prefer the longer form of the game. However we are not a random sample as anyone who watches the Xfactor would not be on LMC.

Tristan

raymond van baarnsveld for netherlands

Tristan

i was going to say club shop instead of supermarket, but obviously ours wouldnt work as you coudlnt fit a trolley in it :(

tomb

Ok, I'm struggling for Durham celebs! Tom Jones has signed up for Glamorgan and Frank Skinner for Warwickshire so far. Andy Murray has signed for Scotland on thre condition he is allowed to cry if bowled out for a duck.

Tristan

or how about you take holding, bumble, beefy & graham norton, each of them have ateam and they select who they want on their team, train them up and they they face each other in a one over race round a supermarket with a trolley they have to fill with cricket related goodies. these goods then go on ebay and whoever sells for the most money get to come back next week

Tynevalleyblackcat

Tomb - surely Ant and Dec would be playing for Northumberland :)

Tristan

onve they get out they coudl bungee jump off the rail way bridge and skateboard down western hill

tomb

We need a panel of three judges, when a batsman is out the judges give the verdict on their innings and whether they can come back for the second innings, if unsure they can allow the crowd to vote on the decision with buzzers attached to the seats, the results will be displayed on the big screen. If a batsmen reaches a 50 they get to sign a song of thir choice and if they get a thumbs up from the judges this is automatically converted to a 100. This will appeal to X Factor and cricket fans alike

Tristan

ok scrap the jungle. how about flass vale?

christoff

My garden looks a bit like a jungle with all this rain

BrianT

Where is the nearest jungle though? Bigg Market?

Tristan

silly? this is a clear money spinner brianT, im surprised someone of your IQ cannit see this

BrianT

Keenas. That would mean games on say 4 days at home and 8 away games. Think about it. Tris, you're being silly.

Tristan

obviously all the players will be replacved by celebrities of a high standard. such as the relative of someone who once dated a member of a boy or girl band

Tristan

i like it tomb, that is just what we need. how about test cricket could be shorted to 1 day, and play it in a jungle which the players are desperate to get out of. they each have to complete tasks, such as sing an opera on ice, whilst buying and renovating a house using only money they have earned by selling all the junk in their attic.

safcluke

Raising the prize money for winning the LVCC could also help.

Update

The umpires will inspect after lunch is taken at 12.330 but chances are slim.

11:54am

safcluke

Arguements could be made to say LVCC cricket could be turned into 5 day cricket. More chance of a result if one day is rained off. Also scrap bonus points.

chrissafc

& the time some of the games start, not ideal for those who work. 5.30pm starts

safcluke

Never understood the point of 40 over cricket, Inetrnational one day cricket is 50 overs.

chrissafc

reduce the ticket prices for the general public on the day

tomb

Keen as mustard: how would the scheduling work, would you play each team twice home and away, or would Durham play two diff away teams?

tomb

How about a local celibrity to open the batting? Or Ant and Dec at opposite batting ends for Durham versus Chris Moyles bowling for Yorkshire. Disco lights instead of floodlights. Alan Sugar overseeing the match and firing one player from each side after the game so they can't play in the rest of the competition.

keenasmustard

BrianT - you could have say Durham v Yorks at noon, then Durham v Lancs at 4pm at the Riverside.

BrianT

Not sure how the two games on a Sunday would work.

tomb

Agree with the two games on a Sunday idea. Friday nights get a good atmosphere. 5 home and 5 away still. 50 over cup back to replace PR0 40. Championship stays the same. No regional teams or use of the word Franchise!

BrianT

Helicopters to fly opponents in?

keenasmustard

The problem with T20 in this country is the ECB don't market it properly. We need to do something different. Giles Clarke got very excited when he thought he found a partner in Stanford, who turned out to be a crook. Just shows you how stupid the ECB are. No need to copy the IPL. Have the games on a Friday night, or alternatively have them on a weekend but have Double-Headers where two games take place on the same day.

BrianT

He might not get picked for test team. That'll learn im.

tomb

Would imagine when a test player retires they have great memories of test cricket. If a t20 player or IPL player retires they have a lot in the bank, sad. I also hate that hi, ho and that stupid bugle thing they play. I thibk we have better taste in this country as we still love Test Cricket and haven't been fooled into all the t20 hype.

aapierre

has KP ditched T20? he ditched F50 and had the T20 internationals removed also. He will be in all sorts of Bib Bash / IPL things now

BrianT

David Vaughan's suggestion of 9 regional teams for T20 makes me shiver. 8 home games split between Leeds and CLS? What do the players not selected do for the summer?

Tristan

its why i lvoe teh players even more when they ditch t20 to carry on with test careers - ponting, pietersen etc. true class

tomb

What make me angry is the players that only play t20, and never play proper first class cricket, loweing the quality and devaluing test cricket. Pollard, David miller, etc

Ridgeley

Birthday greetings christoff, shame about this pesky weather, what an appalling 'summer' we are having....again :(

tomb

But obviously they do have a low attention span as they love T20 and not many turn up for the test matches. I like cricket full stop to be honest but enjoy the county games the most, by far. We ditched the cheerleaders, but still play that awful music

Tristan

*problem not probably

Tristan

the cheerleaders, the loud music and all that nonsense? why alienate those who love cricket just to bring in new fans who dislike the sport? its is madness

Tristan

tbf plenty of people in this country have no attention span anarl. probably is why should we tailor teh sport we love to pander to thsoe who dont like it in the first place?

keenasmustard

I wonder if Phil ever got paid for his stint in the BPL for Barisal Burners.

BrianT

Wasn't meant to be, sorry, but Aussie Big Bash has taken something away from the sport.

aapierre

"commonwealth cousins with a low attention span" - thats about as rude and potentially racist as it gets cheap comment that

Tristan

nice story stan drop, where do you live, if you dont mind me asking?

keenasmustard

I hate T20 too.

Tristan

im happy for it to die out, as long as it doesnt take real cricket with it!

Tristan

i cant stand t20

BrianT

T20 is crap is will die a slow death in the UK. Part of the reason for low crowds this series was weather and the poorest Aussie side since Packer. Some of our Commonwealth cousins have an attention span of two minutes so it's ok for them.

tomb

Did anyone notice that on the BBC website, they used a picture of our ground to highlight the low crowds for 20-20. Thought it was a bit unfair as the picture was just the empty temporary stands which had just been brought in for the Australia game.

Stan Drop

G'day all. "Never mind the weather, just as long as we're together...". Happy birthday Christoff! My birthday treat was my only visit to Riverside this season for the ODI last Saturday and the Lancs T20 on Sunday (tied becaus we gave away 16 extras!). So, Yvette, please pass on a huge vote of thanks, from an overseas member,to our heroic groundstaff for making it possible.

tomb

I could be wrong but I suspected that our second innings was all a bit half hearted yesterday, with both teams knowing rain was on the way and a draw was inevitable. I don't feel like we have been robbed on this occasion but its frustrating to not get the chance to win it.

tomb

Expecting Colly and Myburgh to come in with Muchall and probably Richardson to miss out

safcluke

He might score a 100 on Sunday.

Tristan

poor old richardson, his big chance finally comes and he gets to face less than two overs and doesnt score and thats it over and done with, i imagine colly will replace him next match and god knows how long he'll have to wait for his next chance

Tristan

nevermind, just checked, theyve had even lesss play 83-3 first innings still

Tristan

oh has anyone kept an eye on harmison, have yorks bowled yet?

safcluke

Durham might aswell get themselves off down to Hampshire as this game is finished.

Tristan

not nearly enough to get a result i would guess

BrianT

If play starts at 1.40, and there are no more delays, how many available overs will there be?

christoff

Thanks everyone - darn this weather

dalesgirl

Happy birthday christoff

Tristan

didnt see that, happy birthday christoff!!

keenasmustard

That's a real blow. I really thought we had a chance of winning this one.

bryn

Mornin peeps, that's not good news :-( happy bday christoff have a good'un!

Tristan

really getting hammered this season, the few times we have managed to get ourselves into winning positions the game has been wiped out by weather :(

Latest

No play before lunch here at New Road...

10:33am

Rain...

Sadly, the rain is now falling...fingers crossed it stops sharpish!

9:59am

BrianT

Yeah yeah.

christoff

Cheers Brian, I know I look 70 but i am in fact only 39 ;-)

BrianT

Don't think they'll be in a hurry to mop it up. Happy 70th Chris.

christoff

Morning all. It's my birthday and all I have asked for this year is for a Durham win (oh and a mint baileys). Come on Durham and weather make my wish come true

Update

There's a puddle or two on the outfield so I think it's fair to say the start is likely to be delayed!

9:45am

BrianT

Good morning. If play starts, bat sensibly for a couple of hours if possible. That might bring a lead of 200, have a quick lash and then put them in. See how they manage, batting in the dark.

Day four

Morning all, there was a lot of rainfall last night but at the minute it's just grey skies here at Worcester. Let's see what the morning brings!

8:39am
