Bad light
Looks like it's drizzling but that could be my eyes! Bad light seems to be the main reason for the break.
5:29pm

*pumps fist* over by hometime!
keenasmustard
224 for Aus A to win. Should be a challenging total on this pitch.
Wicket...
Durham all out for 185 - that's a lead of 223 to defend.
4:19pm
keenasmustard

safcluke
canny knock.
chrissafc
well played
Wicket...
Durham 167-9 - Richardson is out lbw on 34. Our lead is 205.
4:03pm
chrissafc
on merit richardson deserves his place either as batsman or wicketkeeper
tomb
Struggling with injury I mean
tomb
Big fan of Mustard, but why rush hmi back in if he's struggling, plus Richardson can do a job for the time being. The lad might be gutted he's lost the captaincy, dont know.
via SMS
If fit mustard should play. One of Durham's most consistent performers over the last 5 years. Richardson should play as a specialist batter.
bryn
a combo of trackie bottoms and shoes should never be sported....ever
chrissafc
go on richardson lad, 31 not out
Tea
Tea time here, Durham 165-8.
3:42pm

Seven down
Wood is out lbw to Coulter-Nile for 12. Durham 153-7 as Paul Coughlin joins Richardson (23*).
3:25pm
safcluke
Nice lead of 300 by the close of play tonight with Richardson 100 not out would be smashing.
Durham 150
Durham 152-6, leading by 190, Wood 11* and Richardson 23*

the lad who works in the clubshop is the spit of kirk off of corrie :)

Durham are currently 138-6, leading by 176 with Richardson 19* and Wood 5*.
3:05pm
safcluke
would it not be cheaper for them to stick in manchester and run the bus out to liverpool each day?
chrissafc
the travel club arent happy with the lancs change. they were all booked up to stay in manchester.
chrissafc
67 & 73 he got
tomb
It was something like that, he had a great start last season. He seems to only be considered as a replacement keeper rather than a batsman in his own right.
marchy22
talking of venue changes i remember yvette saying lancs changing the venue for our championship match against them has come at a cost to our club, surely lancs would have to foot the bill for changes to accomadation and travel arrangements, can u confirm this yvette?
safcluke
got 80-odd didn't he?
tomb
I saw Richardson bat at Headingley last season in the LVCC and liked the look of him since.
chrissafc
quite a few fans arent bothering on sunday now because of the venue change
marchy22
we would have to win our last 5 to stand even half a chance
safcluke
Aren't we pretty much out of the cb40 mix now? I think it would good to see more of the younger lads now on in that comp.
bryn
135-6 a lead of 173 just sayin
chrissafc
i certainly didnt buy it.
Durham 135-6
Durham 135-6 after Blackwell is caught by Bailey off Holland for 62. Mark wood is the next man in.
2:57pm
tomb
He's dropped him in previous seasons so don't see why he can't again. Richardson was dropped so Myburgh could come in supposedly and bowl spin, whether you buy that I don't know.
bryn
Blackie oot
chrissafc
i questioned why was he dropped in the cb40. i didnt find the answer to be fair and we've lost 2 since he top scored vs glamorgan
marchy22
richardson has done well everytime he has had a chance and what did cook say about people having to earn their place!!!
chrissafc
richardson scoring a respectable amount of runs again here
Stan Drop
Plus 38 means 172 ahead with five wickets left. 220 looks like plenty on this wicket.
safcluke
Enough is enough now and I cant see how Cook can continue to pick him in the lvcc team. He's a cert in our p40 team though.
Latest
Durham 134-5, Blackwell 61* and Richardson 18*. McDermott and Holland are the current attack.
2:50pm
safcluke
Marchy - yes, I think they will drop him.
chrissafc
personally marchy i dont think cook has it in himself to drop him
Stan Drop
Wahay Luke, you were faster than Cricinfo onto that one!
marchy22
does everyone really think muchall will get dropped
chrissafc
october game aye?
safcluke
chris are u going to that queens park game?
chrissafc
the only change i would make is to drop muchall, impossible that he keeps his place. move colly up to 3 and give myburgh a go. i'm happy with richardson, he was very good against middlesex and deserves to retain his place on merit
safcluke
AMLA OUT!!!!! YESSSSSSSSSS
tomb
I've gone for both!
marchy22
i agree chris if mustard is fit i wud play richardson too
safcluke
Tomb - Stoneman over Smith and i'd be happy to see that team.
chrissafc
richardson done nothing wrong against middlesex and top scored in our first innings. i wouldn't drop him
tomb
So Rocky, Smith, Myburgh, Stokes, Coll'wood Benkenstein,Blackwelll,Richardson, Thorp, onions, Rushworth. Blackwell would count as a 5th bowler. I know he's scored runs, but he's in as a bowler firstly and not bowling.
marchy22
no blackwell? and u wud go for richardson over mustard if fit
chrissafc
smith, stoneman, colly, myburgh, stokes, benks, richardson, borthwick, thorp, rushworty, onions
marchy22
borthwick has scored runs the last two matches tomb
tomb
Was expecting Phil to be out for a while from what Geoff said last week. Would play Myburgh and Blackwell possibly leave out Muchall and Borthwick if he's not needed for bowling.
Harrison
Update on Jamie Harrison is that his shin problem has flared up again and will be having specialist consultation on the best way forward.
2:42pm
marchy22
what would ur team be for surrey next week including mustard if fit
chrissafc
cook said "not brilliant" at the q&a.
chrissafc
just goes to show if you bat aggressive on this wicket you will score runs. benks, borthwick, thorp, blackwell, myburgh have shown this to be the case in the last week
marchy22
in the journal yesterday the article about durham it suggested mustard could back for the scotland game on sunday
chrissafc
@marchy - the way cook was speaking about mustard i cant see him been back in a hurry
marchy22
he should be in the team cos in low scoring games like this he can take the game away from you in the blink of an eye
keenasmustard
This is the old Blackie. Where has he been hiding?
tomb
Surely Collingwood will have a big say on team selection as well as Cook?
bryn
Reverse sweep from the big dog
marchy22
i doubt blackwell will be back in next week and richardson will probably get dropped unfairly if mustard is back
tomb
And lords is the next test, another flat wicket for the batsmen to fill their boots, so not sure how England can come back in this series
tomb
Blackwell back in the team would be a big boost, he's a top player
safcluke
Amla in now, Kallis next then De Villiers, Rudolph and Duminy to come. ha ha
marchy22
smith may be out but now amla is in
chrissafc
myburgh, blackwell scoring runs.
chrissafc
welcome back ian blackwell, good to see him hit some form. headache for cook. does his stick with his fav that is muchall or does he plumb for a run scorer?
keenasmustard
Wow Blackie hit 3 sixes in a row to bring up his 50. Must be a shoo-in for the Surrey game now.
safcluke
WHEY!!!! Smith out finally a wicket for England!
Blackwell 50
Blackwell brings up his fifty with a six! Durham 119-5, leading by 157.
2:29pm
safcluke
just had a text to say he's hit 2 6's in a row.
bryn
blackies on fiiire!!!! whys he not in the 1sts
bryn
blackies on fiiire!!!! whys he not in the 1sts
safcluke
He isn't scoring runs though, surely as an opener in our situation they need to change it? Past complaining about Muchall...
tomb
SafcLuke, I would stick with Smith in the situation we're in, he's a calm head if nothing else and an excellent fielder, plus he's done no worse than anyone else really.
safcluke
And update about Harrison then Yvette?
Latest
Durham 87-5, Blackwell 26* and Richardson 10*, our lead is 29. McDermott and Starc continue.
2:24pm
LMC
Just a reminder LMC is for club and on the field discussions. Thanks!
2:23pm
safcluke
We need to move on from MDV. Smith isn't doing the business, time for a change surely?
tomb
At least Smiths got a 100 this season, probably the only player who has? Think whoever opens at the Riverside will struggle unless you're a Di Venuto
bryn
t
bryn
some cracking cloud formations up there today, free art love i
safcluke
Would like to see this Singh lad open with Stoneman next LVCC game. After all Smith has done absolutely nowt.
tomb
Dont think its something that can be solved in the short term but surely there must a way of altering the surface to make for a calmer wicket? Trouble is it can be a touch balancing act to not go the over way and make it a 500 plays 500 wicket
chrissafc
our groundstaff are the best around, top lads very dedicated
BrianT
Or Tom Jones!
BrianT
In no way was I suggesting that the groundstaff were to blame.
Second session
We're back on after lunch - Durham 54-5, leading by 92 with Blackwell 8* and Richardson 0*.
1:51pm
chrissafc
yup colly kept blaming the weather/conditions
tomb
At the Q and A last week, the blame was laid solely on the weather, nothing the groundsman can do. I feel we've always liked the wickets to be bowler friendly as bowling has been our strength over the years. Dont think its fair on the batsman.
bryn
plenty frolicking on the outfield,no sign of tj
BrianT
To get back to my original point, is it something that is of concern?
tomb
Personally as a member I dont particularly want the majority of games over in two and a bit days, as I like to watch a lot of cricket. Can hardly go for a pee at the Riverside without missing a wicket.
tomb
Its often been an issue, when we won the championships a lot of games were over in two and a half days, a few players werent happy with the state of it but the argument was always its the same for both teams
BrianT
There must a happy medium. Players' reputations (and livelihoods) may be on the line here.
tomb
100s galore I meant
tomb
I personally think England will get what they deserve if they can't bowl teams out on these flat wickets. Its getting boring watching batsmen score 100s galre on flat pitches to boost their average, we've taken the skill out of batting with these pitches. Yawn
tomb
I'm starting to think I shouldnt have booked 4 days off for the Surrey game. Doubt we'll see many daysplay before by the end of the season if 100-150 is a par score here.
BrianT
We have a number of batters who could have done with time in the middle in this game. It's backfired and will have done them no good at all.
marchy22
this match will be over today
tomb
Could be another two day game?
tomb
Would be interesting to see how our test players who average near 50 could bat on this track, averages closer to 30 I suspect.
BrianT
Will not be easy. They play on a batter's paradise and will have confidence. Durham do not. Remembering back to when Stadium and wicket was new. Batsmen were destroyed. Anyway, a lead of 87 in this match should be enough.
chrissafc
finn was forever catching the wicket last week, as well as not been honest.
Wicket...
Myburgh is caught behind off Coulter-Nile for 8. Durham 49-5 at lunch with Blackwell 3*.
1:04pm
tomb
We cant just blame the weather for this wicket though, it is almost unplayable, saying that we might beat Surrey inside two days next week.
marchy22
somerset 4-2 against lancs not what we need
Stan Drop
Groundhog Day.
BrianT
8 wickets in 100 minutes.
marchy22
deary me same old same old
chrissafc
dear me
Durham four down...
Durham 38-4 after Muchall is caught in the slips on 10. Blackwell joins Myburgh.
12:52pm
Wicket...
Stokes is caught by Paine off McDermott for 10. Durham 38-3 in the 8th over.
12:49pm
Durham 22-2
Durham 22-2 after Singh is bowled by McDermott for 12. Ben Stokes joins Muchall (9*)
12:36pm
Bowling update
McDermott takes the Lumley End. Durham 0-1 after 1.1 overs, Muchall and Singh at the crease.
12:18pm
marchy22
muchall has to score big here
Wicket...
Durham 0-1 after Stoneman is caught behind off Starc's fourth delivery.
12:14pm
Mark
at the q&a last week Colly said when batsmen get out a couple of times and think they could not have done anythin about it, they lose confidence. So what might be happening is our batsmen are suffering more than other teams from collective lack of confidence hence the low scores but we have an excellent bowling attack to keep us in low scoring games.
marchy22
caught in the slips of finn and finn caught the wickets when bowling and smith claimed it as a dead ballas it apparently distracted him, wheres the spirit of the game in that, he would have edged if finn hadnt have caught the wicket when bowling
BrianT
Oh that Smith.
Durham Second Innings
Durham's second innings begins - Mark Stoneman and Rammy Singh are out there for us - our lead is 38.
12:12pm
BrianT
But there has been dreadful weather in other places such as The Oval. Scores here are probably lowest in country and we ain't had the worst weather.
Mark
I think it's more to do with te dreadful 'summer' weather. Pitches are often damp at start of games so the ball nips around all over the place and the ball leaves indentations in the pitch that stay there when it dries out so then there's uneven bounce.
BrianT
Expand on that Marchy for those who are at work please.
BrianT
I should add that I don't know the answer to my question. I just look at the scores.
marchy22
smith out to a dead ball, shocking decision
BrianT
Serious question marks about the wickets at CLS, or are all the batsmen out of form on both teams each match we play?
Stan Drop
Useful FI lead o 38. Now lets build on it. A solid win will be tops for morale , even in a "friendly", especially bearing in mind that the Aussies don't know the meaning of the word.
Last one gone!
That's Aus 'A' out for 159! Brathwaite claims the final wicket - Paine caught behind for 40.
12:01pm
Wicket!

Day two begins!

11:00am
Ridgeley
promise i wont mention him again stan! right back to the cricket lets get in amongst them early doors!
Stan Drop
England's only spin option is now KP. I wish James Taylor well on his debut, but I think that the N°6 should at least be able to provide a few overs of competent military medium or spin like Colly or Bopara
bryn
He worked with elvis you know
Stan Drop
We could have done Ridgeley, but you just blew it;-))
keenasmustard
Finn for Swann in the test match. Onions misses out again.
Ridgeley
tj!!! love it!
durham_andy
Yeah he needs an interview to be registered....Not really sure why. Maybe it's to check he has a british accent?!
billimac
TJ's photos are still in the gent's toilets. Don't know about the ladies though!! I missed yesterday's chat - is Jennings not registered? Is that why he didn't play yesterday?
durham_andy
Will Jennings be registered in time for the Surrey 4 day match?
Ridgeley
can we go a day without mentioning tom jones tho i wonder....:D
bryn

Response to Bryn
