Close of play
At the close on day 3 Durham are 301-7, leading by 341. Tomorrow will be nail-biting stuff - join us then!
6:55pm
Mark
Well done Colly. Perhaps this is a pitch where strokeplay is difficult. If that's the case it probably makes sense to use up overs so Notts are forced to try and go for their shots.
chrissafc
well done colly
southwood
Last day cut off time is after a minimum of 16overs in the last hour
Colly 50
A boundary from Colly sees him notch up his fifty before the close of play!
6:54pm
chrissafc
its good to see. he got up to 90mph with the ball on saturday
brandonia
Well batted Colly.
Mark
Agreed Chris he has been excellent
chrissafc
mark wood has done himself a lot of favours
Wicket...
Mark Wood is caught behind off Fletcher for 30 in the penultimate over of the day. Durham 297-7
6:49pm
brandonia
Wood gone...... I'm nit picking I know but the last hour has been very dissappointing. Notts are on the ropes yet our run rate has been awful.
marchy22
i know they did but its stupid not being able to make some lost overs, i was playing cricket till 8 the other night
auldtimer
Marchy22, they used up their overs by being off for rain.
marchy22
all weather i have seen suggests 0 per cent chance of rain tomorrow
brandonia
Be nice to get 14 off these last 3 overs!
marchy22
do you know thats its dull down there, it could be beautiful blue skys
Three to go..
Three overs remain this evening - Durham 296-6, leading by 336, with Colly 47* and Wood 29*.
6:43pm
brandonia
Afternoon rain forecast tomorrow according to xcweather.......
auldtimer
New road hasn't got lights.
brandonia
335 lead. 4 overs left today.
marchy22
lancs and worcs didnt get on till 5-30 or something and they are already finished for the day, craziness
brandonia
Treble Nelson lead.
BrianT
Wish I'd got that name before you Ron. Hats off.
ron burgundy
I believe its just day 4 where they have a 6.30 cut off??
brandonia
Fifty partnership.
auldtimer
Didn't someone say we wouldn't finish at half past?
marchy22
cant make heads or tails of these stupid rules
Update
It appears we're continuing! Six overs to go...light is ok, with floodlights in support. Durham 285-6, leading by 325.
6:33pm
brandonia
I know mate, just saying like, they're still on. 6 overs left and no sign of coming off now according to the commentators.
marchy22
just repeating what yvette said before
brandonia
After half past, still on.
BrianT
Try and bat for an hour tomorrow and put them in at high noon.
marchy22
thay are finishing 6-30 at the test too even though they are behind in overs from the first day, thought you played to catch overs up in the tests
BrianT
Time in the middle for Wood is also important in the long run.
marchy22
yvette says we finish at 6-30 even if the overs arent bowled
brandonia
8 overs left tonight, 30 short of a 350 lead - I'd say go for it for the rest of today??? Surely won't hurt?!
marchy22
bat the day out have a swish in the morning and set them 350-370 in 86 or so overs
BrianT
Carter bowling bouncers at Wood. Not a wise thing to do.
brandonia
Sounds like we're batting for Stumps now.
brandonia
Carter bowling constant bouncers to starve us of runs.
auldtimer
Rogers was shot out there.
mac6
Continuing the theme could you make a case for jones
safcluke
Could be 370 ahead by the close if these two give it a whack
marchy22
rogers out lbw
Update
On that note, here's an update...Durham 278-6, leading by 318, Colly 34* and Wood 24*. 10.5 overs left.
6:13pm
BrianT
Kemo sabe
auldtimer
BrianT, you'll have to explain it to him, ha.
BrianT
Think I'll hopalong now.
marchy22
we arent having a row we are expressing our own individual opinions, does anyone think durham will sign a player during the off season
BrianT
I'm not going to trigger a row with you.
marchy22
i wouldnt say rogers is a cowboy
BrianT
They're a couple of cowboys.
marchy22
what points that brian
BrianT
Think you're missing the point Marchy.
Mark
Yes, two excellent players-esp Rogers who is one of the few world class batsmen not playing international cricket so available all season. Roy v exciting batsman
marchy22
roy is a cracking player but where would he play, rogers is an opener and would defo get in the team
brandonia
Shot Colly.
BrianT
I would try and get Roy from Surrey as well. What a combination that would be!
marchy22
middlesex made a decent start to their run chase, that rogers is quality, talk of surrey approaching to sign him i would love to see him at durham
roker1973
reet lads im off cragheed vic calling catch yeer lot the morra taras
auldtimer
Quite possible as its heading for a draw now.
brandonia
Perhaps they want to try for bowling bonus points?
auldtimer
Worcs have declared, it looks like a contrived finish there if they get back on. 2 bonus points each.
brandonia
Three balls from that Carter maiden were down the leg side, seems they're trying to take overs out of the game, petrified of Onions no doubt.
Mark
Yep, some of the rules and regulations are baffling!
BrianT
That's why I love cricket. The people who run it are barmy!
chrissafc
yeah it seems odd. just let the lads bowl all the overs, let's see a good game. if its getting a bit dark, whack the lights on. terrible
Times
Hmm..perhaps we can play on if natural light prevails...however the floodlights can only help maintain natural ligtt as far as I'm aware we couldn't play solely under floodlights if it got dark. All very complicated!
5:55pm
Mark
It would be farcical to finish at 6.30 if conditions are still fine to play
chrissafc
even more bizarre given trent bridge have flood lights as well
auldtimer
I'm not sure we do have to finish at 6.30 as the extra half hour was taken into account when the overs were calculated after the break.
Lead of 300
Four from Mark Wood takes our lead to 301!
5:52pm
brandonia
Nice shot by Woody, 300 lead.
brandonia
15 overs left after this one, no way will they get them bowled in 38 minutes.
marchy22
no chance of durham declaring tonight
brandonia
Very pathetic chris, needs to be adressed too. If you can play they should play.
chrissafc
this 6.30pm rule is pathetic mind
Latest
The new ball has been taken - Phillips returns. Durham 257-6, leading by 297 with 16 overs remaining.
5:50pm
brandonia
New ball taken.
brandonia
Doesn't look likely roker, 3 off the last 3 overs.
chrissafc
Durham lead by 295 runs with 4 wickets remaining
roker1973
hope colly gets notts in the neet for a few owers
tomb
Spose Lumb got a 100 at the Riverside first game when I think about it.
marchy22
read always like to score runs against us
marchy22
and voges too
roker1973
just pleased the lads have found there form, as we were down and oot a month ago
tomb
Could be a cracking 4th day to be fair, wish was there. They have other good batsman, but Read has the experience to score a big innings when most needed, he's done it to us a few times.
brandonia
Bell gone. Crap shot.
marchy22
disagree tomb not just read, u have hales, wessels and lumb too
Mark
Other good thing is Colly has been batting for a while so will have been able to assess the pitch.
tomb
Our bowlers are ideal for pitches with variable bounce, Thorpy and Rushy are good at getting LBW's also. I think Read is the only one capable of doing it for them in this situation.
roker1973
our bowlers have been great all season so i fancy us too beat notts if we get 300-310
auldtimer
"Onions" even.
brandonia
New ball available but not taken yet.
marchy22
agreed, other bowlers will have to chip in
Mark
Always pressure on a 4th innings run chase so-flat wicket or not-I'd back us to bowl them out. If Notts get the runs well done to them!
auldtimer
Onoins was magnificent first time up but I can't see him doing it again on his own.
marchy22
onions wickets of hales and wessels went through just above ankle height, there is variable bounce but they have said onions is the only one to get the most out of it
tomb
Meant if Taylor and Patel were playing for Notts chasing down 300
marchy22
play tests*
tomb
Onions foesnt need any assistance based on the first innings. Might be tougher than I was thinking then.
auldtimer
If durham do bowl today and nip out a wkt or two that will make us favorites, but if we don't get a wkt then they will fancy their chances.
marchy22
patel will only be tests for england on the sub continent same with panesar
Mark
At lunch on TMS there was a report from Trent Bridge and the reporter said the pitch was offering very little assistance to the bowlers.
roker1973
must be good if were getting runs lol
tomb
Bairstow proving theirs life after KP. Would be more concerned if Patel and Taylor were playing. Think 300 will be enough, any idea how the pitch is playing?
brandonia
I'd be happy with a lead of 350 and 96 overs to bowl at Notts. Lot of talent in Notts' batting line-up and they won't bat as badly second time round.
roker1973
eye waiting on
raydetmold
our Linda ?
roker1973
allreet ray see ya sis is grafting in garden hoos
tomb
Wheres Sir Gareth these days?
raydetmold
Hello Roker marra
tomb
Don't think they'll be too confident facing Onions to be fair. Cant even see him off as he bowls long long spells these days.
roker1973
another 20-30 runs should give our bowlers enough too see notts off
Latest
Durham 240-6, lead is 280. 21 overs remain.
5:31pm
brandonia
I'm a tad worried we're giving Notts hope here. How many overs left tonight?
tomb
Middlesex need 254 to beat Surrey, finely poised.
tomb
Sussex will be in the mix for the title if we can finish off Notts
Ian17
Yes, just avoiding the drop will do. It feels very similar to the end of most football seasons for me - and others, I suspect!
2XI
2XI: Worcs needed just 20 runs to win at South North but rain has prevailed and the match is drawn.
5:26pm
tomb
Lancs back on soon
marchy22
3rd bottom will do me
tomb
With our remaining fixtures we could potentially finish quite high up the table, this was probably our toughest game left
tomb
Low high pitched, how does that work! Meant quiet way of speaking. Does come across as a bit odd though.
raydetmold
50 for Bell
tomb
KP doesnt come across as brash and confident in his interviews, what with his low slightly high pitched voice and slightly odd analysis of the days play.
marchy22
lancs winning would be the worst result
tomb
Draw would be best
chrissafc
draw
Mark
I can't decide what's better for us-a draw between Lancs & Worcester or a contrived result so one loses.
tomb
Fancy us and Surrey to win tomorrow, leaving Lancs and Worcester in big trouble.
thirskdurham
It's a shame that such a good bm has his personality
safcluke
150 for both Bell & Bairstow here.
tomb
Not KP's son just to clarify!
tomb
KP not as big a loss as people make out, not made many big scores when England really need it. Bairstow is his son, red hair is the giveaway.
chrissafc
top class
Wicket...
Durham 236-6 as Borthwick is bowled by White for 4. Mark Wood heads out to join Colly (18*). Lead is 276.
5:18pm
raydetmold
totally agrre Chris but still a top batsman
marchy22
hilarious the ecb want him no where england but refuse him to play for surrey
chrissafc
kp is a big headed idiot. good riddance to him. trouble wherever he goes
marchy22
time to move on
thirskdurham
how do you lot feel about kp?
marchy22
his dad played for england, sadly wasnt there to see his son play for england
raydetmold
is he the son of the Yorkshire wicket - keeper ?
chrissafc
from the kp lovers
chrissafc
good to see him do well as a lot of toys out of pram would have been dished around if he failed with the bat
marchy22
half century for bairstow, good innings from him, he is antoher one who will have a good long international career
raydetmold
Good fightback by England , 100 partnership between Bell and Bairstow
tomb
Great, I'll hold you to that. Lets bat on then!
marchy22
no rain tomorrow at all
myboyharry
Chance of rain tomorrow is apparently zero: http://uk.weather.com/weather/10day-UKXX0104?cm_ven=cricinfo_UK&cm_cat=scores&cm_ite=weather&cm_pla=10day
BrianT
350 in 80 overs would suit me if we can stay in.
tomb
Marchy, is the weather forecast 100 guarenteed? Plus more chance of nipping two or three out tonight.
chrissafc
just keep batting for now.
myboyharry
Forgot to say that the next part of the Benkenstein cricketing dynasty has begun his journey. One of his sons plays for Durham City Under 11's and looks a good prospect. Played against my lad the other week (plays for CLS CC U11's).
marchy22
i was just gonna say notts will do a lot better second time round
thirskdurham
We want a lead of >350
BrianT
In my opinion, Notts could get 300 plus in a full day whoever bowls.
tomb
Slightly worried about Read saving them again and Hales always capable of getting a hundred, still think we'll do it if the forecast is correct. Then we can relax a bit for the Worcester game.
marchy22
you dont want notts wanting 280 of say 110 overs, id rather bat the rest of the day and have them chasing 320ish off 96
myboyharry
We've already got enough runs to make it tricky for Notts tomorrow especially with Onions in such good form.
marchy22
why do you want our innings to finish as soon tomb, we have all day tomorrow to bowl them out
tomb
Might help us to get out soon ish anyway.
marchy22
thats a rubbish rule, they need to change the rules to be the same as tests, make overs lost at the end of the day
tomb
Just a half pint then, lol
Wicket...
Durham 225-5, Benkenstein is caught by Lumb off Fletcher for 19. Scott Borthwick joins Colly.
5:01pm
BrianT
Well done lads praisng Benks. He's now out.
tomb
Or freedom of the county. And a free pint in Austins.
chrissafc
very odd
Overs
There are 29.2 overs remaining, but we can only play until 6.30pm.
4:59pm
marchy22
no one will ever do as much as benks has for durham he is mr durham, give him the freedom of the city if u ask me
chrissafc
how many overs left today?
chrissafc
benks and colly, more colly been the main boss
Update
Durham 225-4 as this partnership reaches 32, Colly 11* and Benks 19*. Our lead is 265.
4:58pm
tomb
Benks will be our next coach methinks
marchy22
i have heard benks is to take over from cook when his playing contract comes to an end
thirskdurham
Afternoon, lmc'ers!
myboyharry
Benkenstein is a gritty, determined player. the type you would take to the trenches. after charting progress with MDV he seems to have formed an equally good partnership on and off the field with Collingwood. Surely a bloke to keep at Durham when his playing days end.
auldtimer
A lancs win is the worst result for Durham.
Mark
I suspect the Worcs & lancs captains will try and set something up-if it ever stops raining!
marchy22
a tipster on skysports tipped the champions to come from us surrey or lancs this season and also tipped notts for relegation, how wrong was he
Mark
I think they might.
marchy22
if they do i hope lancs lose, i really dont like them and tipped them for relegation at the start of the season
auldtimer
I wonder if Worcs and Lancs have the guts to contrive a result?
Mark
Yes, 3 sessions should be enough.
marchy22
bat the rest of the day and all day tomorrow will be long enough to bowl them out
Mark
Yeah, I think so. If it comes to it though I'd rather risk losing with an earlyish declaration than bat on too long
stuartp
Good thing is we can leave them a tough chase and they really have to go for it anyway.
marchy22
we have to bat the rest of the day at least
Mark
Colly just needs to decide how many overs he thinks we need to bowl them out. I'd rather an early declaration than a cautious one. A lot will depend on how many overs we get in tonight.
BrianT
I don't think we need to take any risks as Notts will have to chase any target they are given. A draw is of no use to them. They've only won four out of twelve and are missing seven key players.
marchy22
a win here to help us avoid relegation and deny notts the title, nothing better
raydetmold
Good afternoon everybody , glorious day here in Germany , fantastic position we are in
tomb
A win here would be a huge bonus, and another win against Worcester would probably see us into a midtable finish
Update
Think we lost 10 overs, tea was taken during that time.
4:20pm
Tynevalleyblackcat
I assume that with tea taken and playing later, we could make up a lot of the lost time with a bit of luck? We still need a few more runs on the board and would like to see us take a few risks now and get them quickly.
Final session
The final session begins - we lead by 233 runs and there are 40.2 overs remaining.
4:18pm
foxbat
Not going to lie but I had a draw being the best we could hope for from this clash. Very very happy to be proved wrong over the last few days. I'd say we need 280 really as a minimum lead but 300 would be nice.
marchy22
how many overs left

There's activity out there in the middle...looks like the covers are starting to come off.
3:49pm
brandonia
Good knock from Mybz, are the umpires lost in the covers?!
chrissafc
finn was spot on with us at the eng vs aus game mind.
chrissafc
i was right in front of his hales effort, was very poor sportsmanship, thankfully didnt cost us
Ian17
Haha, fantastic!
tomb
They also censor night watchman if you didnt put a space between t and wat
Mark
Ian, it does that regularly-eg nigh***chman gets 'censored'!
BrianT
Have been to sports arenas all round the country and that's what supporters are like, even up here although no generally with Durham Cricket. I watched Finn arounds the nets a couple of times and he seemed a genuinely nice bloke. Didn't see his "Hales" effort so can't comment.
Ian17
Ooh, just noticed that the website has censored me! - the word I used wasn't rude, but it contains a word which could be rude in a different context so the software obviously doesn't like it!
chrissafc
"durham win and not home till tomorrow night" didnt go down too well :)
chrissafc
"win in 2 days, bring it home" - got sick of hearing that.
Ian17
Yes, they were a bit ***y and arrogant. I was down at the Rose Bowl the other week for the CB40 and the Hant fans were quite similar (although I suppose they've got slightly more of a right to do that at their own ground...).
2XI update
2XI: Durham all out for 236, leading by 19. Myburgh is the last man out for 111.
3:42pm
chrissafc
they didnt like me shouting at finn due to his dis-honesty either
chrissafc
the middlesex fans on day 2 were very ***y and arrogant. amusing to see thorp and borthwick shut them up quickly after the rain.
brandonia

rushworth has been outstanding since forcing his way into the team
tomb
Thats winning, not whining!
tomb
Wonder what the odds were on us winng before the rain, it was the miracle of the Riverside, 2012. Borthwick as the new beefy and rushworth as the new willis.
Mark
Yes, always dangerous to assume too much in this game. Having said that I think everyone felt it would be over quickly!
2XI
2XI: Durham 229-9 as Buckley is dismissed. Myburgh has passed 100 too!
3:36pm
Ian17
All the Middx fans in the members lounge during the rain break were crowing about what they were going to do for the other two days after they'd beaten us - they shut up fairly quickly afterwards!
brandonia
Has it stopped raining?
Update
No news from Trent Bridge...we'll update as soon as we hear anything.
3:34pm
tomb
Middelsex fans faces at the end were priceless, after two days of taking the pee out of us.
Mark
It certainly worked marchy.
tomb
The rain was a blessing from above, the momentum changed completely after that, they were already on the bus home before then. I've said before and its not meant as an insult but I thought Phil is too nice a lad to be a captain.
marchy22
he said play with controlled aggression
brandonia
Anyone there at Trent Bridge?? Is there a chance of more play today?
Mark
Rain break in that game also perfect timing-we were about 30 ahead with onlk 3 2nd innings wickets left...then Borthwick & Thorp had that superb parthership. Apparently Colly told them to be aggressive.
tomb
Was a good time to play Surrey and Notts so that has helped, but obviously the end of the Middlesex game was a huge turning point. Odd to think if they had scored 20 more runs our season would have seemed over.
Mark
We were due a change of luck and Mustard certainly not to blame for the poor start to the season but I do think the appointment of Colly made a big difference.
Mackem_Dave
Is it a coincidence that the improvement coincided with a change of captain? I am not sure it is all to do with the captain. We were due a change of luck which we had at home to Middlesex, things have improved since then.
tomb
Surrey collapsing a bit now, so game still in the balance there.
tomb
What these last few games have shown is that we have a group of players capable of competing with anyone, we have just been seriously underperforming for most of the season. I'm confident that as long as we stay up, we should be back in the top 3 mix next season!
Mark
Surrey Lancs at end of season is on a contrived pitch! Lancs have moved that game from OT to Liverpool as well as our game.
brandonia
Any sign of the currant bun?
chrissafc
last day of the season could be interesting
tomb
Good shout Mark though a draw would keep both in the mix, a defeat to a rival could be disastarous. Hope Surrey v Lancs at the end of the season doesnt become a contrived result.
Mark
Lancs & Worcester affected by the rain again, still in the first innings of that match. Possible 'contrived' result if the rain stops? Neither side happy with a draw
tomb
Surrey getting a good lead now.
tomb
Thw wickets have been horrendous to bat on at the Riverside as the opposition have realy struggled as well, particularly the top 3. A 50 is almost worth a 100 this season.
tomb
I was at Headingley for some of the test, he bowled reasonably well but allows the batsman to leave most of his deliveries, not great with the new ball, hence his economy rate. I believe Onions weould cause them more trouble. You could argue Onions over Finn instead to be fair.I thought Broad averaged 31 or do you mean this series?
Mackem_Dave
Mark Stoneman's 100 today is only the third FC ton of the season. Last year 22 FC 100's were scored by Durham players. Admittedly the wickets this year have been difficult to bat on.
safcluke
Not bad for a bowler "out of form"
safcluke
He averages a wicket every 26 runs.
tomb
Anyone could take wickets against the West Indies. I said previously that I would have picked the current team + Onions over Bairstow but if I had a choice I would have picked onions over Broad, just my view but i reckon he's a better bowler and batsman would find him harder to face. I also said he is a good player and will be involved for a good while yet. What do you mean, 26 with the bat?
chrissafc
i dont think the england team needs any tweaking. i'm happy KP has been sacked off as well
Mark
If that is it for the day we will imo have to risk losing tomorrow in order to try and win. Even if there's more play today I wouldn't be thinking about trying to bat Notts out of the game before considering a declaration. Ideally we'll get some more play today and set them 300 tomorrow.
safcluke
Before this game he averages 26.
marchy22
broad is a quality bowler, just frustrating cos sometimes he can be very poor and then the next minute look like the best bowler in the wworld
safcluke
Hardly bad form. But I suppose it's all about opinions.
chrissafc
Broad took 3/96 & 5/69 at Leeds, 0/118 at the Oval (all the English bowlers struggled) Against the West Indies he took 7/72 & 4/93 at lords. 2/81 & 1/58 at Trent Bridge.
tomb
Would we declare first thing in the morning if thats it for the day, would be a risk, probably would like to set them 300 and have at least 60 overs to bowl them out?
marchy22
dissapointing to lose a wicket just before the rain falls, might well be it for the day
tomb
Plus the rankings arent a great system, not totally accurate, I think South Africa have been better than England for a while and we always get rolled over in the subcontinent. He has done Ok, my main frustration is that Onions isnt getting a chance I guess. I think Broad generally takes a while to get a wicket and wastes the new ball, most of his victims are in the lower order, just my opinion.
chrissafc
broad took 8 wickets in the last test
Rain
Rain brings play to a halt...
2:49pm
safcluke
Stuart Broads form is quite good if you look at the stats from this summer.
tomb
England have been poor in this series. Broad is a good player and will be an England player for a good while just the feeling is that he is always an automatic pick whhen others like Onions should be given a chance based on their form.
Wicket...

KP asked to text his cricket thoughts, but it turns out he's already reached his monthly limit
chrissafc
300 would be nice.
tomb
Saw him walking his dog after he was out and he loked to be mulling over it. Hard for a player to establish themselves on our batting wicket, especially as an opener. Good to see Cooks faith rewarded.

Aye, given him the belief and taken the pressure off him, he did seem to be too hard on himself when he got out. Just looking at Smiths innings and he did at least bat time and see off the new ball.
chrissafc
the positive words about rocky from cook have obviously kicked rocky on.
Tynevalleyblackcat
Just need to keep scoring runs at a decent pace and we will take the game away from Notts.
tomb
Would be chuffed with a lead of 300 to bowl at.
marchy22
rocky scored 114
Apologies
Sorry - I've done him a dis-service there...Stoneman out for 114.
2:25pm
marchy22
well batted rocky, realising ur potential now
Wicket...
Stoneman is out lbw to Phillips for 106. Next in is Dale Benkenstein. Durham 185-3, leading by 225.
2:24pm
tomb
England batsman used to b atting on flat wickets against feeble attacks, not many good quicks these days apart from Steyn. Don't thnk they're as good as their average suggest.
Drop..
Stoneman dropped on 106 - I wouldn't normally say but Notts needed that!
2:19pm
tomb
Just needed a change of luck, some bad decisions and bad wickets to bat in, now he's got two centuries in a week, well played.
chrissafc
chuffed for rocky mind, he's dug in in recent months. we have a great chance here
marchy22
i think the rain will be setting in now if theres drizzle around
Mackem_Dave
Very well done from Stoneman. Every chance of an exciting final day tomorrow. I believe the weather forecast is pretty good.
marchy22
surrey have lost a wicket eventually
Drizzle...
Drizzle in the air now...hopefully it will pass!
2:13pm
Tynevalleyblackcat
17 off that last over including a 6 from the Colonel!!
chrissafc
bloody heck, we aren't hanging about here
Lead of 200
With that personal milestone, Durham also increased their lead to 211.
2:11pm
Tynevalleyblackcat
Well done to Rocky and the lead is now 202.
marchy22
outstanding rocky, well in
chrissafc
so happy for him
aapierre
Ton up Rocky - brilliant
Stoneman 100
A standing ovation from the Durham dressing room as Mark Stoneman passes the hundred mark. Fantastic!

I think it may be time to play some shots IMO, if rain is coming it could benefit us to get a move on.
marchy22
rain is coming
chrissafc
well played jennings
marchy22

Update
It's worth noting that the floodlights have come on to try and maintain the light.
1:51pm

CollingwoodFTM
Great Morning lads, keep it going.
Second session
The second session starts here at TB. Durham 135-1, leading by 175.
1:40pm
2XI
2XI: After rain prevented any play this morning - they are about to get underway!
1:39pm
chrissafc
Could well be a big game now
Tynevalleyblackcat
I was looking at that Chris. Not sure what her indoors has planed as I think its the bank holiday, but if its a nice day and I am free, I will probably take advantage of that offer.
chrissafc
that safc rewards thing, u can get in the hamps pro 40 game for a fiver if you dont have a membership at durham
BrianT
Yes well done, 175 lead. I'm off to the town to get a discounted car park pass by using my SAFC season card. Is there a similar scheme where I can buy a pass for the summer for the car park over the road to the EICG to avoid the endless queues on matchdays?
Lunch
Lunch here at Trent Bridge - Durham 135-1, Stoneman 81* and Jennings 31*, leading by 175.
1:05pm
chrissafc
going nicely here
marchy22
great effort lads
Tynevalleyblackcat
Excellent session for us again.
marchy22
strauss cleaned up
auldtimer
We have a bigger lead here than Surrey have over Middlesex, nothing to worry about.
Update
Mark Stoneman has surpassed his best first class score of 2012 - keep it going! He's 79* at the moment.
12:49pm
Tristan
aye surrey are romping it. puts more pressure on us to win here
Tristan
haha. fair play
Update
Durham 116-1 with 20 minutes til the lunch break. Stoneman 75* and Jennings 20*
12:40pm
BrianT
I'm not going to follow the link yet. I did it once when somebody said I looked like Yoda and it spoiled my day.
marchy22
surrey taking control against middlesex
Tristan
Sorry BrianT - your post just reminded me of this http://www.cartoonstock.com/newscartoons/cartoonists/kmh/lowres/kmhn57l.jpg
Tristan
i cant see us batting like this as long as we want - lets just wait and see how many runs we get and then knock them over
BrianT
You got me Tris. I hate being corrected and I am now in the huff.
Tristan
no, i said i was jumping in the shower - just my morning exercises!
Tynevalleyblackcat
If things continue going to plan today. I would assume we will be looking to bat through till about 30 mins before the close? That would be about another 60 overs and even at 3 an over, would see us with a 330 lead?
BrianT
Thought you were getting washed, schoolteacher.
Ian17
Exactly! So - thoughts turning to a competitive total to defend - any views?
auldtimer
"One thing you get from Collingwood captaincy is consistency and a plan." My thoughts exactly BrianT
Tristan
thats two things.
BrianT
One thing you get from Collingwood captaincy is consistency and a plan. Would be surprised is batting order is changed unless it was decided before game started.
Tristan
just gonna jump in the shower. no wickets please yvette
Response to Tynevalleyblackcat
I wouldn't say so....cloud cover and dull!
12:27pm
Tynevalleyblackcat
Run rate has picked up nicely in the last few overs. I assume batting conditions are decent?
auldtimer
I can't see Durham changing the batting order now, Mustard will be in next for me.
Update
Durham 100-1, leading by 140 with Jennings 15* and Stoneman 64*
12:22pm
tomb
Still not sure why Broad is an automatic pick for England with an average of 31. Its acceptable but I would almost guarentee that Onions would do a better job at the moment.
Tristan
fair point from the commentary team. i think it would be a mistake to send mustard in at 4
tomb
Well done to Geoff Cook for recognising his talent and keeping faith with him, he's always looked a good player, just needed a bit more confidence and experience.
Stoneman 50
Fifty for Mark Stoneman! Durham 87-1, leading by 127.
12:13pm
Tristan
great achievement to score 40 odd plus a 50* in a low scoring match like this. lets hope its a match winning contribution
Tristan
well done rocky :)
Tristan
aye good luck to jennings, hope he can stake his claim for a spot next year, i think we will see alot of him
daleslass
Hey I don't like to see any of our players fail
BrianT
Agreed Frank but at least Daleslass is happy.
Tristan
i blame daleslass!
Frankjw
Good lead and Smith did a job against the new ball. Good luck to Jennings
Update
Sorry folks, technical issue! In the time we've missed we are now 70-1 after Smith was caught behind off Fletcher for 15. Our lead is now 110.
12:04pm
Update
Durham 62-0 after 23.5 overs, Stoneman 43* and Smith 15*.
11:45am
Tristan
@daleslass can you name a top 7 that doesnt include smith that is more inform?
daleslass
Still beats me how Smith is still in the team when he's so out of form
Tristan
as would i but stranger things have happened. wasnt convinced we would see smith again at one point
tomb
I'd be suprised if Blackwell plays for us again
Durham 50
Fifty up for the opening pair - Stoneman 35* and Smith 14*. Our lead stands at 93.
11:34am
auldtimer
We only have to match two of the teams below us for points to stay up. Wins would be much better of course, but draws would do if the others only draw.
Tynevalleyblackcat
I would rather the teams below us stay there. Much safer that way.
Tristan
ta
BrianT
Don't care about Surrey cos I still think we'll catch Mdsx if they lose that one.
Response to Tristan
Yes, that is correct.
11:24am
Tristan
myburgh just has a contract to the end of the season is thar right?
Tynevalleyblackcat
In the context of what went before, 87 is a handy lead in anybody's book.
Tynevalleyblackcat
Worcester and Lancs still being plagued by rain and bad light, but Surrey are now back in contention in their match.
Update
I don't want to jinx these two but they're doing well and digging in...Durham 46-0, leading by 87.
11:22am
Tristan
@BrianT f course he would, he has been crucial to our success over the last few years and has been a huge story this year through his omission - understandable he is fairly fresh in the mind!
Tristan
our best success has come with two spinners in the side however, and its always useful to have players who can score runs and take wickets. we dont have any other spinners at the club as far as im away, bar breesy
Tristan
agreed. but for whatever reason he is in the dog house. finding the way back into the team is going to be hard for him.
BrianT
Whatever happens, players come and go. What is important is that Blackwell and Harmison etc will be fondly remembered when they do part company. Looking through the year book yesterday I saw that 120 or so players had played first class cricket for Durham. I don't remember some of them. If I was making a list without the book in front of me Blackwell would be one of the first to be remembered.
daleslass
Tristan I'm meaning when he's in form he's a class player. There is always room for experience in a side
Latest
Durham lead by 80 at the minute, 40-0 in the second innings.
11:13am
Tristan
@daleslass - please dont think i dont think he is good enough to get into the team, im just speculating that he will find it hard to get back in, with such a crop of youngsters who will quite possibly be given the keys to the team next year
Tristan
great to see rushworth & stokes' bowling success this year, massive credit to them and our staff to get them bowling so well
daleslass
Macken Dave where did you hear this ? Another one of those end of season rumours
Tristan
from the outside looking in it must be ridiculous looknig at DCCC - struggling to avoid relegation [not so much now after a few good results] and yet loaning out steve harmison & ian blackwell with liam plunkett gathering dust anarl
Mackem_Dave
Yvette, I understand the club is unlikely to confirm the comment at this stage.
daleslass
Tristan I think he'll get back in the team.
daleslass
Better news about Blackie. Mackem Dave you gave me heart failure !!!
Tristan
hard to see a way back for him though, especially with young players like wood & harrison knocking on the door
Latest
Durham 35-0 after 2 overs this morning, Stoneman 23* and Smith 9*. Phillips and Carter are the current attack.
11:07am
marchy22
I haven't heard anything about Blackwell leaving at the end of the season
Response to Mackem_Dave
That isn't accurate as far as I am aware. Blackwell has gone on loan until the end of the season to Warwickshire.
11:05am
daleslass
Shocked about Blackie. Hope he finds another county
Tristan
hadnt heard that. how the might fall, he was indeed instrumental in our success as you say
Mackem_Dave
Dissapointing to hear last night that Ian Blackwell and Durham are mutually terminating his contract at the end of the season. Good Luck to IB for the future he was instrumental in the CC wins.
Tristan
alot of people seem surprised about GO in his interview - he always comes across well. top top lad is bunny
CollingwoodFTM
Just watched the highlights on the ECB App. Very good and a different set to Sky's last night. I thought GO came across fantastically well in his Sky interview last night. A credit to his County. Well done yesterday lads, don't waste the hard work.
Play begins
Durham resume on 27-0 with Mark Stoneman (19*) and Will Smith (5*) at the crease. Phillips to bowl first.
10:59am
Tristan
oh aye, agreed, 300-0 declared and 28-9 at close!
BrianT
Aim for the stars Tris! My little effort wasn't a prediction by the way.
Tristan
weather looks good for tomorrow btw
Tristan
although in the context of this match/season 30-40 would be deemed a good knock!
Tristan
also hoping for a good knock from jennings
Tristan
if you look at the season as a whole the chances of us batting out 64 overs are not all that great, far more likely to have a lead of around 200 and have them 50-4 by close, thats my prediction. another tight finish tomorrow but i fancy us to win it, onions taking career match figures
BrianT
Looks like there could be up to 2 inches of rain from 4 oclock. If we could bat till then, say 64 overs at 3 an over would leave us 239 ahead. 4 an over would leave them with about 300 to win in a day and that would see us as winners. If only it was as easy as that!
Tristan
you are an angel yvette
Highlights
Right - leave this with me...I'll try and get it sorted ASAP.
10:36am
daleslass
Just back from a walk with the dog. Got absolutely drenched.
Tristan
great to hear yvette. same problem with surrey highlights - blank screen. ECB site seems to be missing half of dccc games - broken links taking you to error pages... :(
BrianT
Just checked spelling of Graham. Won't mispell it again.
Update
The warm ups are underway - reckon we could be starting on time here!
10:28am
Tristan
he's a great lad is graham
Tristan
'i think mitch probably would have got 10'
BrianT
A refreshingly modest interview from our hero Graeme Onions on BBC Sports news last night. Hope our footballers watch and learn from it.
salmon
Same here no vision on highlights
Tristan
cheers brandy but but but i want to increase traffic on the dccc site!
brandonia
Try the ECB site gents.
Tristan
not getting much joy here trying to load the glamorgan match. bcc weather suggests 12-4pm should be clear
Tristan
thats a relief. sort of! trying to load the glamorgan game now...
BrianT
Same problem here Tris. Thought it was just me.
Tristan
same problem with day 2 v notts in fact, is it just me?
Tristan
yvette im having some problems with the TV... day one v notts has audio but just a blank black/grey screen also the pro 40 v surrey, day 3 v surrey & day 2-4 against middlesex are missing?
Tristan
hope it will brighten up later? still more wickets there for onions to take. if we can get a fair chunk of play we can win this one from here
Update
More rain is falling here - the full covers are on.
