Could be a cracking 4th day to be fair, wish was there. They have other good batsman, but Read has the experience to score a big innings when most needed, he's done it to us a few times.

Our bowlers are ideal for pitches with variable bounce, Thorpy and Rushy are good at getting LBW's also. I think Read is the only one capable of doing it for them in this situation.

Have been to sports arenas all round the country and that's what supporters are like, even up here although no generally with Durham Cricket. I watched Finn arounds the nets a couple of times and he seemed a genuinely nice bloke. Didn't see his "Hales" effort so can't comment.

Was a good time to play Surrey and Notts so that has helped, but obviously the end of the Middlesex game was a huge turning point. Odd to think if they had scored 20 more runs our season would have seemed over.

Is it a coincidence that the improvement coincided with a change of captain? I am not sure it is all to do with the captain. We were due a change of luck which we had at home to Middlesex, things have improved since then.

What these last few games have shown is that we have a group of players capable of competing with anyone, we have just been seriously underperforming for most of the season. I'm confident that as long as we stay up, we should be back in the top 3 mix next season!

I was at Headingley for some of the test, he bowled reasonably well but allows the batsman to leave most of his deliveries, not great with the new ball,hence his economy rate. I believe Onions weould cause them more trouble. You could argue Onions over Finn instead to be fair.I thought Broad averaged 31 or do you mean this series?

Anyone could take wickets against the West Indies. I said previously that I would have picked the current team + Onions over Bairstow but if I had a choice I would have picked onions over Broad, just my view but i reckon he's a better bowler and batsman would find him harder to face. I also said he is a good player and will be involved for a good while yet. What do you mean, 26 with the bat?

If that is it for the day we will imo have to risk losing tomorrow in order to try and win. Even if there's more play today I wouldn't be thinking about trying to bat Notts out of the game before considering a declaration. Ideally we'll get some more play today and set them 300 tomorrow.

broad is a quality bowler, just frustrating cos sometimes he can be very poor and then the next minute look like the best bowler in the wworld

Broad took 3/96 & 5/69 at Leeds, 0/118 at the Oval (all the English bowlers struggled) Against the West Indies he took 7/72 & 4/93 at lords. 2/81 & 1/58 at Trent Bridge.

Whatever happens, players come and go. What is important is that Blackwell and Harmison etc will be fondly remembered when they do part company. Looking through the year book yesterday I saw that 120 or so players had played first class cricket for Durham. I don't remember some of them. If I was making a list without the book in front of me Blackwell would be one of the first to be remembered.

Looks like there could be up to 2 inches of rain from 4 oclock. If we could bat till then, say 64 overs at 3 an over would leave us 239 ahead. 4 an over would leave them with about 300 to win in a day and that would see us as winners. If only it was as easy as that!
