Close of play
Lancashire 221-6 at the close of play on day one with Smith 86* and Hogg 36*. Join us again tomorrow!
6:44pm
Mark
Pity there's no commentary, I'm intrigued to find out how the pitch is playing. 11/4 suggested usual Liverpool minefield but perhaps it was just the new ball on a damp pitch causing problems.
BrianT
Good fightback by Lancs. However they did choose to bat and would have expected to get more than 218 or so in 75 overs
raydetmold
should get the 100 partnership up in that time
Update
Three overs left tonight - Lancs 218-6, Hogg 36* and Smith 85*
6:32pm
raydetmold
totally agree Marchy , innings defeat here , hopeless
auldtimer
The game is less than a day old and the moaners have started already.
marchy22
This getting silly now
BrianT
And/or Thorp.
BrianT
When kooking at the economy figures of our bowlers I wonder why Jennings hasn't been brought back on.
marchy22
Wicket needed now
Bowling change
Scott Borthwick returns with 8 overs to go. Lancs 203-6.
6:15pm

6:10pm
Bowling change
Graham Onions returns for a third spell. Lancs 199-6 with 11 overs remaining
6:06pm
BrianT
The end of the world is nigh. I'm going to sit in the shelter at the bottom of my garden. On the other hand the pitch looks easy now and we should be able to accumulate enough runs during the breaks in the rain to avoid the follow on.
marchy22
Surrey going well and Worcs not too bad. We need wickets now
brandonia
Beeb on the blink again.
marchy22
We have really struggled to dismiss the tail end after disposing of the opener for next to nothing
marchy22
Let's hope this wicket isn't a minefield cos we won't make 150 if it is
brandonia
Struggling here.
marchy22
Partnership is 56 and counting
mickeyboy
I agree with Mak. A draw will do me. Looks like rain around for next two days too
BrianT
A good observation!
brandonia
What number is school batting?
BrianT
School's out.
marchy22
Since 11-4 they are 156-2 well and truly let off the hook

Update
Lancs 144-6 with 24 overs remaining...
5:22pm
Mark
been going along* Keyboard playing up again.
Mark
Lancs have dangerous lower order batsmen-Hogg and especially Chapple who has been in a thorn in our side many times. Smith has bee going aong fairly quietly but he must be in decent form after a 100 in about 40 balls yesterday.
auldtimer
Whats Stokes playing at, doesn't he know our bowlers are not trying and don't want to take wickets, selfish so and so.
Mark
Excellent, that partnership was getting annoying.
Wicket!
Stokes makes the breakthrough! Lancs 130-6 after Cross is bowled on 57.

marchy22
We have let an excellent start slip here
keenasmustard
Leaving work for home in a few minutes. Hopefully they'll have more wickets by the time I get home.
chrissafc
here's me thinking thorp, rushworth and borthwick took a good amount of wickets in the last game and wood took 5 vs notts
Cross 50
Fifty for Gareth Cross - Lancs 114-5.
4:53pm
raydetmold
its a shame we have to rely on Onions all the time , its like a one man team at times
keenasmustard
Dammit! a fifty partnership.

chrissafc
jennings bowled blackwell for a duck the other week. his bowling figures for stockton are very good
BrianT
This follows a pattern The ball is 40 overs old and scoring runs is easier. Durham don't particularly need to win this game although it would be nice. Lancs probably need to win to stay up. Let them do the panicking.
marchy22
We need a wicket now

See them off lads.
We're back!
Lancs resume on 94-5, Chris Rushworth to bowl first after the break.
4:13pm
BrianT
I don't agree. Let them get 199.
keenasmustard
I also agree
Mark
I agree
Tynevalleyblackcat
I would have taken that at start of play, but we could do with getting these 2 out quickly.

IAIN6W
Is there no commentary today!!
Mark
Think he's taken a fair few wickets for second X1 & Academy.
BrianT
Didn't realise Jennings could bowl!
CollingwoodFTM
Get in there.
BrianT
You can get yours now if you're hungry.

Tynevalleyblackcat
God stuff. Do we know when tea is yet?
Mark
Massive wicket, now let's polish them off.
Ian17
Get in there! Pleased to see the back of Prince.
BrianT
The man with the magic arm.
stuartp
Got the danger man
Five down!
Lancs 58-5! Stoneman catches Prince off Stokes for 41.
3:20pm
BrianT
Yes, well done Gordon. I'd be happy to see him in the team and scoring heavily. Maybe next season.
marchy22
Who did stokes drop
stuartp
GM has picked up the 2nd XI trophy once already. Would be good for him to get a 2ndx 2nd XI trophy to go with his 2 LVCC's
safcluke
Only fair I say well done Muchall.
marchy22
Let's have another wicket lads
safcluke
Dont know where I got Kent from. Middlesex play Lancs in the other semi today by this. http://cricketarchive.com/Archive/Seasons/ENG/2012_ENG_Second_Eleven_Trophy_2012.html
Tristan
ah maybe they just want stokes at the otehr end. still, must like his action to have him bowl ahead of benks, scotty & colly himself
safcluke
I think Kent won the second semi yesterday in the SET.
Bowling change
Maiden for Jennings. And at the opposite end, Rushworth is replaced by Ben Stokes.
3:05pm
Tristan
jennings coming on for a bowl this early?
Bowling change
Looks like Keaton Jennings is coming on to replace Thorp. Lancs 49-4 after 21 overs.

I hope that drop by Stokes isn't going to be costly.

2XI update
2XI: Durham 70-4, Clark is the man out.
2:23pm
Tynevalleyblackcat
Stuart, lets hope Lancs are not batting in their second innings by tea!!
Tynevalleyblackcat
This really looks a bad decision to bat.
stuartp
Well I guess we will see how bad the pitch is after tea today when we will probably be batting.
Tynevalleyblackcat
Been a mad season for batting this.
BrianT
I think we should withdraw Onions from the attack as it isn't fair.
Mark
Or maybe not! Well done Bunny.
Mark
True Parky :-) We'll just have to see how the first 2 innings play out. We've got a top class seam attck and Lancs batting is fragile so early wickets might be just down to those factors and the pitch is fine.
Four!
Lancashire 11-4! Croft is bowled by Onions.
2:18pm
parky
could have been worse. It could have been a ploughed field in Blackpool
Mark
Yep, Riverside pitch has been very tough this year, awful weather makes groundsmans job difficult. However, Lancs chose to play this match on an outground where pitches tend to be a bit dodgy at best of times and this particular one has a notorious reputation.
BrianT
As a Durham and Sunderland fan I shouldn't criticise anybody else's pitch.
Haslam
Last year 17 wickets fell on the first day, a pitch inspector was there and said there was nothing wrong with the pitch. Not sure how they came to that conclusion though! Bare in mind the average first innings at the Riverside can only be about 150
Mark
Difference here imo is this pitch has been consistently awful for a long time. Perhaps it is fine and just a case of excellent bowling. Time will tell.
BrianT
We're starting to sound like Surrey and Middlesx fans.
Mark
If it is another shocking pitch surely a points deduction is on the cards? Especially after all the low scoring games there lasy year and with Lancs suddenly deciding to move this game from Old Trafford?
Tynevalleyblackcat
At this rate Mark, they will be lucky to get 50!! Lets just keep those timbers falling.
BrianT
Nine might be a handy first innings total. As usual, I'll wait till we bat before I pass comment.
Mark
If the pitch is the usual Liverpool disaster area any score around 120 might be decent in first innings! Big gamble to bat first imo.
mickeyboy
Good toss to lose or poor decision?
Tynevalleyblackcat
Good plan batting first here!!
parky
1st point
Mark
Send for the pitch inspectors! Well done Bunny
safcluke
fantastic start.
Three down!
That's three down! Procter is caught by Borthwick off Onions for 6. Lancs 9-3 in the 6th over.
2:01pm
Mark
I'd forgotten about him
brandonia
Prince is the dangerman, can see him rescuing the innings.
Mark
Great start, or should that be usual start at Liverpool!
safcluke
well done Rushy.
Wicket!
Lancs 7-2 after Brown is caught by Borthwick off Rushworth.
1:54pm

3 overs 3 maidens and a wicket - outstanding once again

Tynevalleyblackcat
Seems the pitch at the Riverside is being true to form today. Should be able to get 123 though even with 9 wickets.
Update
Today we'll play 75 overs. Not sure when tea is.
1:27pm
safcluke
Time he moves on in the winter. All my opinion of course.
BrianT
He'll be back!
aapierre
I bet poor Will Smith will be desperate to see the back of this season
Mark
A real shame for Smith,he needs a bit of luck. Don't know about overs or tea break Tvbc.
BrianT
Didn't need that!
2XI update
2XI: Durham 0-1 after Will Smith is dismissed.
1:24pm
Tynevalleyblackcat
Cheers Mark, next question, how many overs we playing today and when is the tea break?
Mark
1.30
Tynevalleyblackcat
What time is kick off?
BrianT
All Colly will be thinking about is getting them out for under 200 and then stretching the game out.
safcluke
wont ever forget that game stuart, saved his test career at the time imo.
stuartp
With Colly in the team we have one of the best players of spin around. Will always remember his double century vs Warne in Perth, in a match where the rest of the England batsmen were falling like flies.
BrianT
They'll make sure it turns!
parky
that's if the game lasts long enough to allow the pitch to turn
safcluke
three spinners in their side.
stuartp
Lancs obviously think it is going to turn square and want to bowl last.
safcluke
Positive team selection this one, young players in the top four. With the experienced middle order, mix of youth and older in the bowling department too. Well done Durham.
chrissafc
great news that richardson is playing
Lancashire team
Lancs: Horton, Procter, Brown, Prince, Croft, Smith, Cross, Hogg, Chapple, Keedy, Kerrigan
12:59pm

Delighted Richardson is playing.
Durham team

Toss result
Lancashire have won the toss and will bat
12:57pm
keenasmustard
Lancs won the toss. Oddly enough they are going to bat
Tynevalleylad
Yes had a good laugh when he didn't seem to know what you were on about.
Response to safcluke
I think it is at whichever side has a first class venue available on the day. But don't hold me to that!
12:56pm
safcluke
Yvette - any idea where the SET final is held at?
BrianT
Funny though.
Tynevalleylad
Marchy too young BrianT, probably never heard of Roy Rogers & Trigger.
2XI update
Sussex all out for 122 - three wickets for Wood, two each for Coughlin, Pringle and Ingram and one for Weighell
12:50pm
Haslam
It's a nice little ground (I went back for Lancs-Warwicks a month later) a couple of minutes walk from the promenade - recommended way to spend the lunch break
Haslam
Oh well remembered, i did indeed get my pictures last year I'd forgotten about that, I went on the morning of the second day and my wife went into labour at lunchtime (and delivered by close of play)!
BrianT
*** cigarette
BrianT
I think they would rather I bought a postcard of the bike. The saddest thing that happened was at South Shields where a bloke told me I couldn't take my grand-daughter on the swings because I had a camera. He was smoking a ***!
raydetmold
South Africa batting first
daleslass
I always find it odd how places you think would allow you don't and vise versa
BrianT
That's what we decided last year that it was best to ask. Strangely enough, I was not allowed to take a photo of a penny farthing bike in Harrogate Pump House Museum last Monday.
Tristan
right, must be off
daleslass
Brian T - Depends on big your lens is and what you intend to do with them. I've never had any trouble. I think as long as you tell the club its okay. Durham were great
Update
Good news from Aigburth - 1.30pm start!
12:29pm
BrianT
Not you Tris. I'm sure Haslam is a keen photogapher and was hoping to take camera into game last year. You get stopped at some grounds.
Tristan
ermmm... come again?
BrianT
Did you get your photos last year?
Haslam
I live in Aigburth, still very sunny here with clear skies. Got to expect a good days play, hopefully same as last year!
BrianT
Notts day 3 after tea. Look at archive. Thought you were there?
Tristan
just when it seemed we were on the same wavelength that last sentence has completely bowled me
BrianT
I know that Tris, think we're on the same wavelength. In the interest of fairness I must add that although I dislike their cricket team and big city football teams, outside of those cities Lancashire is a beautiful county with nice people and I have spent 3 of my last 4 holidays there. Do you think the cowboy theme of a couple of weeks ago has been twigged yet?
Tristan
Brian, "I know it's early but it was an attempt at humour."
BrianT
Wasn't relly a typo Tris, just avoiding legal action. Not that I should talk after Saturday's farce at SOL.
parky
yep, got that when I turned up for the game at Uddingston. No rain all day, but match abandoned without a ball being bowled
brandonia
The only thing more frustrating than no play due to rain, is no play despite no rain!
keenasmustard
Whoever wins the toss should bowl. If we have to bat first it may be worth reversing the batting order like they did in the old days of "sticky dogs".
Tristan
no, i think spell checker got it spot on
BrianT
Sorry, misfunctioning spell-checker, meant to say "outground".
BrianT
Six sessions over four days should be enough for a result on an allotment.
raydetmold
so much for clear blue skies and sunshine at 0929
News from the umpires
The news from the umpires is that there will be no play before lunch. Lunch and a further inspection will take place at 12.30
11:15am
Tristan
i read somewhere prior to the one day game that pringle and couighlin are all rounders? impressive if we are playing an all arounder at 10 !
Tristan
i agree keenas, i dont think mustard is an opener but i thin kdue to jennings age and lack of top level experience geoff may keep him from opening until next year. could be borthwick as well. but with it being a hodge podge out ground im not so sure. we may just see mustard in one day mode and go out and try and get runs on the board quickly, but my preference would be to get jennings some opening experience sooner rather than later
keenasmustard
Any news on the inspection?
2XI latest
2XI: A wicket for Mark Wood, well caught by Ryan Pringle. Sussex 26-3!
11:07am
BrianT
So has Borthwick
keenasmustard
I'd like to see Rocky & Jennings open. Mustard isn't really a four-day opener even though he has done it previously.
BrianT
Well I think Richardson will open. That will be the only change from last week. So I've got the same team as you Tris. Come on fence sitters.
daleslass
Tristan I did exactly the same
Tristan
i think geoff may well pick mustard opening though
Tristan
Rocky, Jenners, Stokes, Benks, Colly,Richardson Mustard, Borthwick, Thorp, Rushworth, Onions for me
Tristan
i would open with jennings but wouldnt be at all surprised if mustard did. started reading this and it took me a while to notice '2ndXI' i was in danger of loosing the plot for a second
BrianT
Have a go at picking the team then. I'm bored waiting for Liverpool to dry out.
raydetmold
personally i would open with Mustard
chrissafc
I think Jennings will open with Stoneman today
daleslass
Morning all
raydetmold
haha , good morning Brian
BrianT
Ray, I know it's early but it was an attempt at humour.
BrianT
I agree with you there. If Ruchardson ain't in seconds is there a doubt over Mustard's fitness? And, while we're waiting, who will open with Stoneman? Place your bets.
raydetmold
givin a chance ? , how about his last 6 starts ß , is that not a chance
chrissafc
i said last night he was dropped, just didnt expect him playing wicket keeper for the 2nds today. good luck to him, he's a nice lad and has been very kind to us in the last year. hope to see him back in form soon
BrianT
If Smith's currant form is bad he should be picked to give him a chance of raisin it.
raydetmold
Good morning everybody , i think even Will would admit he doesnt deserve his place in the team on currant form
chrissafc
will smith wicket keeper?
2XI update
Durham won the toss and will bowl first in their semi final against Sussex at Emirates Durham ICG. Start is 10.30am. Team is, Smith (wk), Singh, Muchall (c), Myburgh, Clark G, Pringle, Raine, Wood, Ingram, Coughlin, Weighell
10:19am
Update
Apparently the outfield is still a bit wet so the umpires will take another look at 11am.
10:16am
Day one
Clear blue skies and sunshine at Liverpool CCC this morning - looks like an 11am start!
