Just logged on to see how we are doing - not too bad eh?
marchy22
well done richardson and jennings
chrissafc
never lets the team down that lad
chrissafc
well done richardson
Close of play
Close of Play at Aigburth - Durham 187-4, Richardson 39* and Collingwood 5*. Back tomorrow!
6:29pm
safcluke
Richardson & Jennings doing the business!
mickeyboy
2 to go? See it out boys
Update
Durham 182-4 with 4 overs to go tonight, Richo 38* and Colly 1*.
6:17pm
Response to marchy22
Four wickets to spinners so think it's safe to say it is a fair bit.
6:16pm
marchy22
is the wicket turning much yvette
Wicket...
Benkenstein is bowled by Kerrigan for 15. Durham 180-4, Richardson 37*. Next in, Paul Collingwood.
6:11pm
marchy22
benks out
Latest
Seven overs left tonight and Durham are 172-3, Richardson 36* and Benkenstein 10*.
6:06pm
marchy22
how many overs left yvette
marchy22
richardson going nicely and without hitting a four
chrissafc
171-3
Durham 150!
Durham 150! Richo 23* and Benks still to score. 15 overs remain.
5:38pm
mickeyboy
Hang on Brian. I'll join you
marchy22
Haway lads stick in there
BrianT
I'm going to the pub.
Wicket...
Dale Benkenstein joins Richo after Stokes is caught by Prince off Keedy for 4. Durham 146-3. 18 overs remain.
5:30pm
BrianT
Ok then, Mustard in the morning.
Durham two down
Durham 142-2 after Jennings is caught by Croft off Keedy for 70. Ben Stokes joins Richardson (20*).
5:23pm
BrianT
Stokes and Mustard in the morning, ouch! Don't think we'll lose any overs to rain tomorrow.
Tynevalleyblackcat
22 at 3.5 = 77, which puts us on 218 for whatever at the close, we can be in the lead early tomorrow morning and I reckon we can skittle them given say 45-50 overs. Haway Durham, we can win this.
mickeyboy
At this rate 220 overnight. Quick 120 - 150 in morning and declare
BrianT
But sometimes I can't help it.
Update
22 overs remaining tonight - Durham 140-1, Richardson 20* and Jennings 68*
5:15pm
marchy22
ok fair enough, i accept ur apology
BrianT
No, I'm trying to teach my young grand-daughter good manners and I should set an example.
marchy22
its fine brian, you cant offend me im far too relaxed about life lol
BrianT
Marchy, I'm sorry for being rude to you.
BrianT
We'll be bowled out before that at this place.
marchy22
how many overs left today yvette
mickeyboy
If we can...get to 350 and declare
BrianT
TVBC: Never give a sucker an even break. Bat till you drop and then bowl them out. They won't see the ball for tears.
Tynevalleyblackcat
Just a daft thought. Is there any mileage in an a declaration here assuming we get up to their score. We could be level early on tomorrow. Put them back in and they may be desperate enough to set us an achievable target. They probably won't have time to set a bigger one?
BrianT
30 overs or so left at current rate would get us to 225 at close (if we are spared as my Nana would have said). Where does that leave Lancs. Very sad for them, also sad when an opposing batter gets out in the 90's.
mickeyboy
Brilliant. Talking of ex-players making good...We let Martin Saggers go to Kent and he played for England ayear later
marchy22
wish i had backed them to get relegated at the start of the season, i told everyone they would, how they won the championship last year is a mystery, they are a poor side
auldtimer
Wasn't there one or people said we'd lose by an innings defeat on Tuesday?
Tynevalleyblackcat
That's Lancs as good as down.
brandonia
Panic over. 115-1.
brandonia
Quick, everybody stand on one leg!!
chrissafc
get in jennings
keenasmustard
5 runs required to avoid the follow-on.
southwood
To answer my own question it is his 3rd first class 50 but not centuries yet. Well batted.
safcluke
well done Keaton!
brandonia
Well batted Jenno! Nearly avoided the follow-on! Hey, without getting too giddy we might have a first innings lead!
marchy22
well in jennings
tomb
Can we be greedy and ask him to go on to a hundred?
tomb
Very well played, may it be the first of many for Durham.
southwood
50 up for Jennings. Is that his first one in 1st class?
Jennings 50
Keaton Jennings scores his first Championship fifty! (Off 80 balls and including six boundaries).
4:37pm
tomb
Ou middle order (on paper)looks very strong with plenty of experience and with Borthwick at 8 and Thorp at 9 its a suprise how we struggled to post a score for much of the season.
tomb
Would imagine that will be sorted fairly quickly, now he is registered and cleared to play.
chrissafc
i think he looks quality, durham need to get his contract sorted.
marchy22
need to give him one b4 other counties coming sniffing
Response to marchy22
Keaton currently has an Academy contract with the club.
4:30pm
tomb
He looked excellent in his first outing, unfortunatly he was run out, just as he was settling in. Not the easiest conditions to start your batting career in but he's looked very promising and seems like a calm, level headed lad.
Durham 100
Hundred up for Durham Jennings 46* and Richardson 4*
4:29pm
marchy22
has jennings got a professional contract with us yet?
chrissafc
pleased he's in the side, have been wanting that for months
keenasmustard
I like the look of Jennings. For me he is one we should hang on to . Diva's shoes are big ones to fill but this fella might just be the one to do it.
chrissafc
jennings is a very exciting player
marchy22
jennings seems he could be a great opener, cook says he like to occupy the crease but he also seems to be an explosive 2020 batsmen
tomb
If Jennings proves a capable opener that could solve a lot of our troubles.
chrissafc
agreed
tomb
Yeah a lot of odd things were going on at that point, and explained with unconvincing responses by Cook, Colly seems to have settled it all down again for the time being.
BrianT
Spin twins on together. Next 10 overs critical.
chrissafc
i raised that question at the q&a about richardson. was dissapointed he was dropped
tomb
Was quite annoyed when he was dropped from the pro40's after top scoring to allow for Myburgh to come in and bowl spin. He could even play instead of Benks for me (in PRO40)and have Colly captain in all forms.
BrianT
Marchy, the technical term for Taylor's dismissal is "Slogged his wicket".
tomb
Brian, I would gladly give him more but 4 or 5 is better than the 1 or two games he gets to prove himself.
BrianT
Why just 4 or 5 games. Ian Bell had 25 and, before that Gatting had about 50 chances before coming good.
marchy22
and he seems a very good keeper too
marchy22
was brilliant last season when mustard was injured too and scores runs for fun for the 2nds and newcastle
tomb
Should have 4 or 5 games on the belt before being judged. Was superb at Colwyn Bay and then dropped.
marchy22
james taylor out for for notts hitting his own wicket
keenasmustard
Well Richo, here's your chance to impress Cookie.
Durham one down...
Durham 90-1 after Stoneman is caught by Croft off Kerrigan for 44. Michael Richardson is the next man in.
4:15pm
BrianT
Steady on lads.
We're back!
Durham 86-0 after 21 overs, Stoneman 44* and Jennings 35*
4:11pm
BrianT
What a lovely problem for Durham. Good luck whatever he does. Maybe someone else would leave or retire, who knows?
marchy22
he has been in and scored runs and then gets dropped for no reason
safcluke
needs to get in and score runs. simple as that really.
marchy22
richardson seems to be good enough for first class cricket, i just hope it is with durham and not anyone else
tomb
26 is too old to just play for the seconds, but if his career goes well he could have 10 years in the first team.
BrianT
I daren't mention it Marchy cos one of them would get out and I'd be blamed.
marchy22
whats that brian
safcluke
Anyone know what Nicky is doing these days?
BrianT
Starting to think the unthinkable now.
marchy22
back on after tea and jennings up to 34
BrianT
Are you suggesting poor form from that Murali chap?
keenasmustard
Let's not forget Nicky Peng
chrissafc
Trouble in Taunton. After Murali Kartick ran out Barrow backing up. Reports umpires asked Surrey to withdraw appeal but requests declined.
safcluke
What about that opener who went to Notts? Not noticed his name much like.
safcluke
Mark Turner aye. Doing alright.
BrianT
Erm Chanderpaul, Hussey, Katich Turner Blackwell
marchy22
isnt max turner at derby an ex durham player
safcluke
Just recent ones.
safcluke
Luke Evans keeps on bowling well then gets left out at Northants.
safcluke
Goddard quit the game. Gary Park got released.
Cricketbadger1970
Coetzer has had a pretty good season
safcluke
Ben Harmison - not playing for Kent at the moment.
keenasmustard
There's not many players leave Durham and do well. Gidman and Davies are the only two I can think of. Can give you a big list of those who fell short.
safcluke
Northern Echo is usually the most reliable.
BrianT
Suspect he only said he'd like to play every week and the Journal did the rest. Stopped reading it years ago.
safcluke
Batty is 39 and Coughtrie keeps on getting dropped.
marchy22
if it was up to me id tell him he would be starting next season in the first 11 and see what happens from there
safcluke
I'm sure if he does leave he will go down to LVCC 2 and score runs for fun. Just trying to think who needs a new keeper. Gloucester maybe?
safcluke
Thats right. Signed when Goddard went down to Derby.
marchy22
his 3rd
BrianT
Tomb: Sadly year book is deficient in that respect.I could make something up if you want.
safcluke
this is only his second season here correct?
parky
Michael Richardson 16/10/1986
marchy22
id be gutted if he left, he deserves a chance now
safcluke
He's about 26 I'm sure. Not "young"
tomb
He's not a young lad Richardson so can see he wants to play reularly at this stage of his career.
marchy22
richardson says he wants to play first team cricket and will have to go elsewhere if durham wont give him it
safcluke
Richardson probably wants to play every week. Fair play to the lad. Gidman/Luke Evans done the same.
tomb
I doubt that re Stoneman otherwise surely he would have been in the Lions set up before now? Aye, would be shame to lose Richardson, hopefully we will keep him. Well played Buster. Thanks for stat Brian, should have remembered that, what average?
parky
shame there is no radio commentary. Perhaps DCCC could share the costs with the BBC to broadcast away games with counties who do not have regular cricket commentaries
marchy22
just reading the journal here and richardson is considering leaving durham at the end of the season, very disappointing news but not unexpected
Tea
Tea time here - Durham 70-0, with Stoneman 33* and Jennings 30*. When we return there will be 42 overs to play.
3:41pm
BrianT
uh oh. Jennings on 30.
BrianT
Gibson 80 in 2007. I've been town or would have read yearbook sooner.
marchy22
id imagine trott will move up to open, the journalist writing for the journal reckons that if rocky had realised his potential faster he would have been playing for england by now, thanks tomb
tomb
Who will not how will
tomb
Would like to see Stoneman in the frame, but his form is relatively recent, however should be taken into account that he bats at the Riverside where runs are almost worth double sometimes. How will be England opener then? Root, Hales, Northeast? Or Trott moving up one? Shame Marchy, I'll suggest that for the 2013 version.
marchy22
no you cant do that lol
Update
Durham 63-0 in the 18th over, Stoneman 31* and Jennings 25*
3:34pm
tomb
When you are Durham can you instruct your players to head to Austins for a post match pint of Guiness to boost your morale points? Come on Keats! Or is it Buster?
Tynevalleyblackcat
Deficit down below 200 with all ten still standing. Keep it going lads.
parky
4 an over puts us on course for maximum batting points, if we get that far, and that means an outside chance to bowl them out for a win tomorrow.
marchy22
stoneman to go away with eng lions?
marchy22
there is no eng lions matches on cricket captain but i do have six players currently always away with england
tomb
I have fond memories of me, my brother and cousin watching Durham lose in the Sunday league on a chilly September day then heading back to urs to play cricket captain with Melvyn Betts leading the attack. Not exactly the Hovis advert but it makes me misty eyed.
Cricketbadger1970
I think we could see Stoneman going on a Lions tour this winter
tomb
Do you frustratingly lose your best players to the Lions?
marchy22
the best part of cricket captain is getting youngsters promoted from ur youth team and trying to turn them into international players
tomb
Rainy day cricket, that was exciting!
keenasmustard
I had Test Match which was advertised by Fred Truemann
tomb
I think theres an element of randomness as on footy manager that they generate the stats but they vary a bit each time you load a new game. Plunkett was very good on cricket coach for me. Remember world cup cricket which was like a cricket version of Subbuteo?
Bowling change
A spell for Simon Kerrigan now - Durham 55-0 after 14 overs.
3:23pm
marchy22
i think it would have been diva, stoneman, smith, stokes, benks, colly, blackwell, mustard, plunkett, thorp and onions. smith is a really good player on this version and borthwick very poor and with no potential
tomb
Brian is recovering from an accident, he wasnt at the last home game either.
safcluke
I noticed on the last couple scorecards that Hilton is scoring. What's happened to Brian?! Have I missed something?
safcluke
good start by these two.
tomb
lasy year, that sums it up! Last year I meant
tomb
I played cricket coach lasy year and found the stats much more extensive and realistic than cricket captain (admittedly its years since I last played that)though coach had no real match highlights and was too easy at times, a lot easier than captain.
tomb
Season 1,who did you have. on previous games the problem is people like onions career stats differ massively from their form over the last few years, as the games engine seemed to run off career stats I found the relative performances unrealistic at times especially for bowlers. Thorpy was also down as medium pace and always out of the automatic team picked by the computer.
Durham 50
Fifty up for Durham in the 12 over...49 remain this evening.
3:16pm
marchy22
on my current game i only have stoneman left from when u start, well i have stokes too but never get to play him as he is always plays for england
tomb
Dont want to tempt fate here..... but Hogg has had a really poor season compared to last year.
parky
another 60 and we avoid following on and the game and division 1 status becomes safe
tomb
Marchy, how does your side (unless you are in 2050) compare to the actual Durham side?
raydetmold
really good positive start , RR 3.81
tomb
Sounds like a bit of a flat track Parky, even our batsman could score runs on that.
Update
So, back to this game! Durham 42-0, Stoneman 27* and Jennings 12*.
3:10pm
marchy22
i dont manage england on cricket captain tomb just durham
parky
that should be 1000 runs
parky
Ashes cricket on the Wii is good. However I keep getting over 100 runs first innings and winning by an innings every game against the Aussies
tomb
Really I live Pity me, maybe I can charge for a room.
brandonia
I'm a big fan of Shove Ha'penny myself.
tomb
Yeah, I had Mark Davies cricket, it was good but kept breaking down.
tomb
40 seasons erm, how does that work. I take it test cricket has gone and its all 20-20 by then? Do the batsman play in jazzy gold and silver clothing? When I played Durham were the worst side so I shamefully picked Lancs as they had Atherton,a young Flintoff who didnt bowl, Fairbrother, Wasim Akram,Peter Martin, Fairbrother, Hegg, Crawley, some class overseas players in the championship then. That version you had to earn the International jobs.
keenasmustard
Ive got Shaun Tait cricket but I can't seem to get past the first couple of overs.
raydetmold
Premier Inn at Pity me , completely sold out for first 3 days of ashes next summer already
safcluke
KP cricket only had a mobile version.
marchy22
i am not single tomb, its not the best game but it passes the time, im currently starting my 9th season on 2012 version, on the 2011 version i got into my 40th season
tomb
KP cricket looked good but was hard work.
tomb
You're not single are you Marchy by any chance? My memory of that game was not enough stats for my liking. I had a version with Nicky Philips, Nick Speak, Saggers, Daley, Speight and other, cough, legends on it for us.
safcluke
Ooofffffffff. Knock out blow.
tomb
I had Steve Harmison cricket but it kept going missing
marchy22
im playing cricket captain right now tomb lol
tomb
Yeah, needed a change. Shame about Muchall, he was tipped to do great things early on but never quite happened.
keenasmustard
I used to have Jimmy Daley cricket but I kept breaking my fingers playing it.
raydetmold
how Smith & Muchall lasted so long is beyond me
tomb
Mike Roseberry cricket for the Atari never took off did it.
safcluke
Anyway isn't it good to see Jennings and Richardson in the side ahead of Smith and Muchall?
tomb
I had Graham Gooch cricket, then Shane Warne, then Brian Lara, batting was git tough on those early games, dear me. Was an option to play in the 81 Headingley test as Beefy and the late Graham Dilley, almost always Beefy was out first ball attempting an ill advised slog
safcluke
Not Wilcox?
chrissafc
aye
safcluke
Gooch?
tomb
Yes it was a classic. Those were the days when there was so few different programmes, that everyone knew about them. Remember Donal, wheres your troosers song.
chrissafc
i used to play graham ***'s cricket - think for the amiga ha ha
tomb
Anyone sad enough to play Cricket Captain or Cricket coach for the PC and if so which is the better of the two. I used to have cricket coach last year.
keenasmustard
Remember the sitcom Hi-de-Hi? They used to always mention a competition called Who's Got the Wrong Trousers on?
tomb
Tiddlywinks is underated. I like knobbly knees contests too.
safcluke
next topic: croquet. Anyone see the world championships last friday?
tomb
Are we allowed silly cricket transfer rumours instead?
keenasmustard
No more footy? I think you'll be disappointed over the next 9 months Yvette. The media will be full of it.
Latest
Durham 20-0 in the sixth over - no more football please!
2:48pm
tomb
Thanks Yvette, I think its good to have something to remember past players by or even honour current ones.
Response to tomb
I will put your comment forward to the relevant department. Signage etc is something that is being discussed at the moment.
2:41pm
tomb
Yvette, what chance is there of somebody commissioning a big painting or print of Durham legends,Benks, Davies, Thorp, Onions, Brown etc to go in the lounge or another prominent part of the ground, similar to the Emirates picture but a bit classier. They look great at Headingley, the oval, etc.
Play continues
Play continues...Durham 7-0 after 2 overs.
2:34pm
Tynevalleyblackcat
We don't mind a rest here do we lads. About 3 sessions should do it!!
Update
Durham 3-0 in the second over - light rain has started to fall.
2:32pm
tomb
Davies would have been England material but for serious injuries. Seeing as Surrey have an Alistair Brown 268 bar as a tribute to the quick batting legend, can we not call our members lounge the Onions 9 for 80 lounge, we need more tributes for our players. Love the way Surrey have mementos of their past players everywhere, think we need to start adding a bit of history to our ground and facilities at Durham.
marchy22
yeah i saw davies on the telly for kent and the speed gun had him as low down as 70 but it doesnt matter about speed if you are as accurate as he is
mickeyboy
Kent mates very happy with Davies although they thought he'd be quicker. Down to about 75mph now
Durham innings begins
The Durham innings begins! Mark Stoneman and Keaton Jennings to open.
2:26pm
tomb
Warks have declared after Ambrose reached 150, good knock by Blackwell too. Yeah Davies, how could I forget.
marchy22
davies might be up there i think
marchy22
adding what u have just said tomb it is an amazing haul from onions plus we had a whole match rained off against surrey
tomb
Any stattos know record number of championship wickets in a season for Durham? Would think Harmy would be up there, though not as economical I dare say.
mickeyboy
Just get to 113 and game dead. Cannot understand Lancs tactics. Not complaining mind. Just started raining at Warks
tomb
Not just that Marchy, think of the amount of innings lost due to bad weather, all things considered an incredible haul.
marchy22
so if he had played them too he could be looking at being at around 80+ championships wickets, maybe looking at getting a 100 in the season
tomb
Wisden cricketer of the year or has he had it already?
tomb
Think at least 2 or 3 missed Marchy.
marchy22
how many matches has onions missed too?
tomb
How would Onions bowling stats this season compare with past Durham greats like Simon Brown and Harmy in his better years on a one off season, could be the best ever for Durham in first class cricket?
marchy22
65 chapionship wickets for onions now, i think adams is next best with 54
tomb
We have the best bowling attack in the league for me. Just havent scored the runs this season.
Thorp
Callum has a sore back and in post match interviews after close of play on day one Geoff Cook said we may have to plan to be without him for the remainder of the game. Gareth Breese has been in the field.
2:18pm
Tynevalleyblackcat
Well done to Onions (Again!!)
BrianT
Cut and paste. Well done Graham.
tomb
Run out of superlatives for Bunny now.
Lancs all out for 262
Six wickets for Onions! Stokes takes the final catch as Lancashire are dismissed for 262.
2:15pm
brandonia
Only thing with Surrey is that maybe Somerset will be interested in a result to keep their title aspirations going.
tomb
Wouldnt be in my team!Anderson always looks far more threatening for me, though not always with the figures to back it up. Thought Trottsky might have been in. Doesnt say much for the quality of quick bowlers around the world.
raydetmold
Alastair Cook (Eng) Hashim Amla (SA) Kumar Sangakkara (SL) Jacques Kallis (SA) Michael Clarke (Aus, captain) Shivnarine Chanderpaul (WI) Matt Prior (Eng )– wicketkeeper Stuart Broad (Eng) Saeed Ajmal (Pak) Vernon Philander (SA) Dale Steyn (SA)
BrianT
I saw brief reference to Thorpe being injured. What's up?
marchy22
and cook
raydetmold
think Broad is in there Tom
tomb
Any other England players in there raydetmold?
tomb
We could almost manage with two bowlers the way Bunny has bowled, 25 overs for 41 runs.
BrianT
If we get 175-200 all out by close, assuming a full day tomorrow, what do Lancs do?
keenasmustard
He'll also be in the Sussex team in our last game.
raydetmold
nice to see Matt Prior in the ICC team of the year
Response to tomb
Richo will bat at 3. Jennings and Stoneman will open.
2:10pm
tomb
Is it Jennings to open, wonder where Richardson will bat?
tomb
Surrey and Worcs games look like certain draws, draw hot favourite here as well.
marchy22
theeir 2 stands in the middle saved them from total humiliation hope rocky and jennings put on a century opening stand
tomb
So we need 100 plus a few to avoid the follow on with only a day and a half ish to go. Should be fine unless its a doctored pitch for the spinners, in which case they should be docked points.
tomb
Superb professionalism again from Onions after being left out again, hasnt sulked, he's just got on with taking wickets for us. KP could learn a thing or two about how to behave as a sportsman.
BrianT
They're sacrificing wickets because they're really going for it. 20 off the last 10.
parky
3 points
marchy22
nice one stokes
Wicket!
Lancs 251-9! Ben Stokes returns and Kerrigan is caught by Richardson for 1.
2:04pm
BrianT
Is Kerrigan the one who bowls with two arms at once or is that Proctor?
tomb
Was a superb player for us, two players in one.
tomb
Blackie is 66 not out at mo for Warks. Ambrose 139 not out.
BrianT
Joking apart, if Blackwell had been in the team and playing as well as he used to for us, I think we'd be blaming weather for keeping us off top spot. That's not passing any opinion on whether he should or should not have been in the team. I don't know enough about it. Seemed a very nice man when I spoke to him at a recent game. Yet again well done Graham.
brandonia
Awesome Bunny. Another Michelle. Glad he's in my fantasy team like!
tomb
I think my derogatory posts were deleted, fair enough. Well done, Graham again, my votes in the post.
Wicket!
Onions strikes again! Chapple is bowled for 8. Lancs 250-8.
1:58pm
tomb
I think we used to have a bowler of the year award seperate from supporters player of the year?
brandonia
I don't know if there's such an award but Rocky has been out One Day player of the year - in my own personal opinion that is.
tomb
Other notablep players have been Thorp, as usual, Colly for captaincy and Stoneman for three centuries in a week (but that includes PRO40).
BrianT
Only the players mam's will vote for other than Onions.
tomb
Was thinking that Onions is expected to perform whereas Rushworth has been the most improved player, and helped by conditions. Of course I vote purely on the LVCC games, dunno if some include the pro40 in their thinking. I would think he is Marchy, though he has missed some games for us.
marchy22
i know, can you believe it!!!!!
BrianT
Hang on Marchy, we've agreed on something.
marchy22
is onions the leading wicket taker in cc this season now?
marchy22
rushworth defo a close 2nd, very much improved but like brian says onions is one of the best bowlers in the world
BrianT
Rushworth has developed into one of the better bowlers in division one. Onions, has at times this season, looked like one of the best bowlers in the world. Hmm. who should I vote for?
marchy22
onions defo
raydetmold
Onions by a country mile IMO
parky
Onions gets my vote, although you have to say that Colly comes a close second for his captaincy in turning around the season for us
chrissafc
exactly how i felt, had to vote for onions
tomb
I really want to vote for Rushworth as our player of the season (for his improvement and form) but its hard to look past Onions now.
BrianT
Geoff Cook made his comment before it rained all day yesterday. There was no-one running up and down on it all day to scuff it up. Well done Graham. We've got to be wary of the new ball not the spinners. If we avoid the follow on what do Lancs do next?
tomb
Onions bowling stats this season are making the England selectors look a bit silly in not picking him. Doubt any of the current test bowlers would be able to get better figures over the season playing county cricket. Bresnan or Onions? Hmm...
marchy22
well in onions
tomb
Sorry auldtimer. Anyway we've got the wicket!
Wicket!
Lancs 240-7 after Smith is caught behind off Onions for 91!
1:42pm
marchy22
ill be happy with a draw but geoff cook even said this wicket is gonna be a big turner so we could still easily lose this one
auldtimer
Tomb If we lose this game I said, not draw.
chrissafc
i'll be delighted with a draw here.
tomb
By some peoples reckoning we would be dead and buried now, if we hadnt won four in a row. I said three or four wins would be enough to survive, and we probably needed the four with our low batting points but considering Lancs have won once and Worcester have won once all season I'm not too concerned.
BrianT
That's the spirit lads.
marchy22
at the mo yeah but this partnership is beyond a joke now and they still have four wickets in hand and we could be looking well abover 150 to avoid the follow on
tomb
Auldtimer, why if we draw this game would we need to beat Sussex to stay up? Why are so many expecting the bottom teams to suddenly take maximum points from all their games?
brandonia
That's what I'm fearing BUT, wouldn't we only (at this stage) need 90 to avoid the follow-on? That being 150 runs behind.
marchy22
lancs will be confident of spinning us out twice cheaply, we need to break this partnership now its a joke
Bowling update
Chris Rushworth joins the attack. Lancs 239-6
1:31pm
Bowling change
The new ball has been taken after 80.2 overs. Graham Onions is bowling.
1:24pm
mickeyboy
Bunny on. Must have taken new ball
We're back!
We've lost two further overs - so 76 left today. We're back in the field!
1:21pm
BrianT
15 off the last 10 overs. They don't know whether to stick or twist. they won't declare till Smith gets 100 and that could be hours yet.
marchy22
pity
mickeyboy
That'll do me
Update
A delay in play - heavy rain shower!
1:16pm
BrianT
The pitch on Tuesday was as good as I've ever seen it. Sprinklers were on before game and at half time. See how long it lasts.
auldtimer
New ball taken?
marchy22
100 partnership for the 7th wicket
marchy22
blackwell 50 from 40 for warks
auldtimer
Looks like Lancs are banking on trying to bowl us out cheaply and enforcing the follow on when we bat.
chrissafc
aye superb news that mind. very happy and it's a massive statement of intent from the club. just need the pitch sorting now
mickeyboy
Chrissafc - Sess signs new contract til 2015 - get in
brandonia
For the record - I never said we'd be in DEEP trouble if we lost this one. I merely said we would be back in the 'mire'. Meaning we'd be looking over our shoulders with more worry than if we get a draw out of this one.
Bowling update
Scott Borthwick takes the ball at the opposite end. Lancs 221-6.
1:02pm
raydetmold
come on lads , lets finish this innings off quickly
Update
Before you ask...tea is at 3.40pm.
1:00pm
Here we go!
Finally underway here at Liverpool CC. Ben Stokes will bowl the first over. Lancs resume on 221-6.
12:58pm
keenasmustard
Why are the umpires being booed?
chrissafc
worth noting we'll get more points from this game as things stand
mickeyboy
If Lancs win last 2 games - Middx & Surrey will be below us as well as Worcs
auldtimer
We've won four in a row, Lancs and Worcs only have to win two to overtake us. Do you seriously want to go into the last game having to beat Sussex to stay up?
mickeyboy
Worcs will go and the loser of Lancs v Surrey (liverpool - 11/09/12) will join them
chrissafc
no chance colly will agree to a 1 innings game.
chrissafc
i'm just happy to take the draw.
mickeyboy
If we lose we are not in deep trouble. If Lancs don't win...they are
tomb
Think it would be a miracle if these teams below us suddenly won all their games considering they have mustered 4 wins between them all season (and they paly each other). Getting a bit sick of this if we lose we are in deep trouble nonsense.
tomb
Would be madness for us to give Lancs a chance of winning plus would make enemies of Surrey and Worcester
tomb
Aye we had a one innings game with Hampshire last year and lost. Would prefer it if they were allowed if a certain amount of overs, say 150 were lost and it was at the discretion of the umpires to keep the integrity of the cmpetition in tact
auldtimer
Lancs HAVE to win, Durham don't, if Lancs want the win that badly then they have to take a one sided gamble which suits Durham.
mickeyboy
Surrey's other game is Notts
mickeyboy
Take the draw and we will be safe. Lancs need to play Middx & Surrey so take points off each other. Worcs play Warks & Somerset. Not 2 wins there
Mark
Yep, win would be great but definitely don't want to take any risks.
chrissafc
colly has no need to agree with it. just sit and take the draw
Mark
cheaply not chaply lol
brandonia
Hampshire at home last season Tristy.
auldtimer
there's nothing to stop teams setting up a one innings game.
Mark
Could agree to innings forfeits with declaration bowling but no way imo Colly would agree to it. Wouldn't Lancs best chance be to try and score as many runs as they can in this innings and then try and bowl us out chaply and then enforce follow on?
Tristan
oh well guess ive got it wrong, thought we were safer than we are. anyhow i have to be off to work, enjoy the day lads n lasses
Tristan
a few seasons ago really? remeber us losing one i thought it was only last year or the one before?
brandonia
I think you need to check your Maths Tristy, a defeat for us will pull us right back into the mire. We're currently 40 points ahead of both teams in the relegation battle but as both have a game in hand - could half that deficit if we lose this one.
keenasmustard
One innings matches in the CC are not allowed now. They were scrapped by the ECB a few seasons ago.
auldtimer
A loss to lancs will make a massive difference to us, it will put them one win away from overtaking us.
Tristan
you don't think? lancs need it and for us a loss will make no difference to our season and a win would be a new club record, might as well IMO
brandonia
I'd imagine Lancs will be eyeing up atleast 29 more runs because they'll have a batting point in sight. Durham shouldn't be interested in setting up a result. A defeat is too costly a risk when we don't 'need' the win as much as Lancashire do.
auldtimer
Not a cat in hells chance of a one innings game.
Tristan
great team performance recently but given that 4 wins in a row is a club record im assuming that this is the best run under a new captain ever??
Tristan
who thinks a one innings match may happen?
auldtimer
I can't see lancs batting any more now, they need to bowl Durham out twice to win and times running out for them.
mickeyboy
That's who I was thinking Chris
chrissafc
lee clark
mickeyboy
when was the last time safc signed an Englishman and they were in the next England squad?
chrissafc
just usual for us to have england internationals now
Tristan
aye, but he doesn't play for by far the greatest team in the world
brandonia
So is John Terry.
Tristan
adam johnson in england squad
CollingwoodFTM
Group 4.
bryn
:-p
brandonia
Group Red Stripe?
bryn
Group hug?
brandonia
I'm about as sharp as a blade of grass - so I can't take credit for any of the aforementioned eagle-eyed quips!
BrianT
Think the funniest one was a couple of months ago when I said I couldn't go to the Tom Jones show because I would be at my Nephew's wedding. A misplaced comma made it read as if Tom Jones was getting married to the nephew, as someone quickly pointed out.
Tristan
Looks like you weren't paying enough attention BrianT. Tsk tsk, must try harder. See me after class. and btw, you got a parking ticket
brandonia
Nah, it was in relation to Yvette saying OT was under water - me saying its a good job United are away. I hadn't noticed any mistake on your part old chap!
BrianT
You're very sharp at spotting any of my many incorrect or ambiguous posts. Funny though.
brandonia
Erm, I'm neither. What you getting at?
chrissafc
oh well at the moment this puts lancs in further trouble. my heart bleeds.... NOT
Response to keenasmustard
Brian won't be back with us before the end of the season. We need him fully rested up for getting the Yearbook done!
11:39am
Update
Lunch will be taken at 12.20pm with a view to starting at 1pm, providing there is no more rain.
11:38am
keenasmustard
Yvette, how it Brian Hunt coming along after his accident?
Tristan
5 wins in a row soob soob
keenasmustard
Can't see there being any play here before lunch.
BrianT
Oh it's you again. Are you, perhaps a teacher of some sort? Or maybe a traffic warden Brando?
brandonia
Good job Man United are away this weekend then!!
Latest
Apparetly I got that wrong...inspection at 11.30!

BrianT
Old Trafford is a magnificent ground and they are suffering from trying to make it even better. Still hope they go down though.
brandonia
4 quick wickets and then a flurry of runs please.
OT
Apparently the rain has been worse in Manchester and OT is under water.
11:12am
BrianT
It's the shows that destroyed the field this year. We whinge about a small area affected by Tom Jones show!
auldtimer
The building work is just an excuse, it hasn't stopped the more lucrative one day games been played there.
brandonia
Let it rain!
BrianT
Still clarty.
auldtimer
Marchy's right, The equipment and drainage are far superior at old Trafford.
BrianT
Have you not seen Old Trafford on telly lately or been there? Lot of building work and the whole pitch is a mess. It's clarty.
marchy22
Yeah but old trafford will have a drainage system
marchy22
Yeah but old ttafford will have a drainage system
keenasmustard
To be fair marchy I think it's been raining over most of the country. It would have been just as wet at Old Trafford.
BrianT
What about the supporters who've taken time off work and spent money travelling? Are they happy with the weather?
Update
A further inspection will take place at 11am...
10:35am
Tynevalleyblackcat
I think we are mostly quite happy to watch the rain put a nail in Lancs relegation coffin Yvette!!
marchy22
This is what happens when you move Ur games to out grounds
