Berb

Don't worry Guys a good performance against Yorkshire this week and all will be forgotting :-)

Mark

Top 4 scored 99 runs between them in 16 innings!

auldtimer

They're just going to have to live with that performance until they redeem themselves.

Mark

No, and I don't know what can be done about it either

auldtimer

"Can say"

auldtimer

Not a lot you can about that performance.

brandonia

Right on cue, 3pm. Not so much more than a whimper.

Mark

All out

brandonia

Nine down, looks like the lads want to be finished in time for the football........

Stan Drop

Why has it gone all quiet?

brandonia

Good pun Mark, I'd laugh if I wasn't crying.

Mark

No, we don't have any established openers or number 3. Rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic comes to mind!

brandonia

It's an awful situation to be in but lets face it - there's nobody else is there?!

Mark

Sadly all too predictable, can we not bring Breese in to open? I know he tried it years ago without great success but he is an experienced player. We also need to know when or if Rudolph is coming.

stuartp

Oh dear, looking grim at the moment.

Durhamlad

Good grief our batting gets even worse! I didnt think it was possible!!

CollingwoodFTM

Is that Warks' morning?

bryn

harry half shift!

Mark

Lol

brandonia

Blimey, even the staff are jumping ship!!!

Mark

Cheers, thanks for the updates

Update

That's it from me folks. Thanks for joining the LMC this morning. I'll catch you all at a later date.

1:05pm

Lunch

It's Lunch at Edgbaston. Durham are 48-6, Mustard 10* and Borthwick 6*. Partnership 11*.

1:04pm

Mark

Petersen following up his first innings hundred for Somerset with another half century- they are in a bit of trouble too so could be another crucial innings.

Change in Bowling

Jeetan Patel replaces Woakes from the City End.

12:56pm

Four!

Mustard edges a ball from Clarke to slip but Porterfield can't catch it and the ball goes to the boundary.

12:52pm

bryn

id take a draw now mind :-/

chrissafc

rubbish. i'm off to the sunderland match

Stan Drop

Groundhog Day!

New Batsman

New man at the crease is Scott Borthwick.

12:40pm

Wicket!

Collingwood is out for 5 caught behind by Clarke off the bowling of Woakes. 37-6.

12:39pm

chrissafc

agreed

Mark

Agreed. We could bring in Richardson but the major problem won't be fixed unless we can find an experienced opener. An average in the late 20's or early 30's over a long period is not good enough.

alan62

Look at somerset's performance this week compared to last. Petersen scored nearly 200 runs and still going. How we could do with someone like that

28 overs bowled

Durham are 36-5 after 28 overs. Mustard 5* and Collingwood 4*. Partnership 7*.

12:35pm

Mark

Going into the season with no established openers or number 3 wasn't clever! I don't know what we can do about it other than hope Jacques Rudolph arrives soon.

alan62

Anybody seen Singh in the seconds?

chrissafc

got to give richardson a chance thats certain

BrianT

Think we all are. Who would you bring in to change it?

auldtimer

I've just got in and seen the latest score and it's going from bad to worse, you can defend one bad innings but not two innings like this. I'm really shocked at this performance.

Mark

Don't think the toss made much difference. The problem is the top 3 can't see off the new ball.

23 overs bowled

Durham are 32-5 after 23 overs. Collingwood 4* and Mustard 1*. Partnership 3*.

12:18pm

chrissafc

can we open with borthwick/rushworth next week?

BrianT

Salmon: you're guessing that. Usually seems to backfire when you elect to field though. But why did so many have the same thoughts?

alan62

50 for 6 now 29 for 5 on a pitch where the other team scored how many? I know we are playing the champions, but who in their bowling attack would you have instead of our attack?

chrissafc

probably same people who thought 50/6 was ok

CollingwoodFTM

A rear guard action again then.

brandonia

There are probably folk on here who think we're doing alright.......

Appeal!

Barker and the slips up go up for a catch behind off Mustard but the umpire says not out.

12:02pm

chrissafc

absolutely pathetic

BrianT

They are also having trouble with their neighbours from the north.

Wicket!

Stokes goes lbw to Barker for 8. Durham 29-5.

11:58am

brandonia

No, South Korea - but for some reason the IIHF don't put the 'South' bit on their official pages..... Make of that what you will.

salmon

Brian T ref. batting first. Probably correct but i think they may all be losing or lost.

18 overs in

Durham are 29-4 after 18 overs. Stokes 8* and Collingwood 2*. Partnership 6*.

11:57am

BrianT

Is that a combined Korean team?

brandonia

Latest score from Budapest - GB 1-0 Korea. In the Ice Hockey World Championships. It's not all bad news then......

BrianT

We can get no points, three points or sixteen. realistically we won't win from here. Every reason not to be too tense with only three points at stake with fourteen games left. Play your shots and enjoy yourselves.

killyted

So who are the big earners at the club, which caused us to breech the salary cap

Stan Drop

Time for a Colly rearguard special. Remember Centurion!

pingu

not the greatest of starts today. Its a bad habit now, confidence must be shot, but fingers crossed.

killyted

IF we do not get opening batsmen we will struggle this season,WS i ask you

New Batsman

The new man at the crease is Paul Collingwood.

11:39am

safcftm33

Oh dear it just gets worse...

Wicket!

Benkenstein goes for 3 caught by Patel off the bowling of Wright. Durham 22-4.

11:39am

BrianT

Is it lack of ability? Smith no, Jennings, don't think so, Stoneman, not sure. Lack of confidence, certainly and you can add Benks to that list. Anyway, support the lads today because you can't help in any other way.

alan62

you were right two days age auldtimer, hope you are right today

safcftm33

We can all but hope I suppose.

auldtimer

It's hard to stay positive when wickets tumble like that, but here's hoping for a positive outcome.

safcftm33

Thats literally embarrassing.

alan62

four innings each for the top three batsmen, between them have they managed to score 50 runs?

Four!

Stokes hits a shot airbourne through the gully which just evades the hand of Porterfield. It goes to the boundary though.

11:32am

safcftm33

Yay a 4 for stokes.

safcftm33

Exactly alan this is crazy this like.

alan62

Middle order exposed to the new ball again, unfortunately

safcftm33

Brilliant this lads, this top 3 needs seriously looked at.

New Batsman

The new batsman for Durham is Ben Stokes.

11:29am

Wicket!

Smith goes for 15 caught by Chopra off the bowling of Wright. Durham 16-3.

11:28am

10 overs in

Durham are 13-2 after 10 overs. Smith 12* and Benkenstein 0*. Need 400 to win.

11:24am

Stan Drop

Erewego. Deja vu all over again. let's show them we CAN bat.

Haslam

Both still in at lunch. Come on lads make them work for it and even if we lose see if some of the batters can find form

safcftm33

Haway man lads. Play your natural games otherwise the wickets will keep falling, scotty and colly in first innings played their natural games and it worked wonders.

Edged!

Benkenstein edges a ball from Wright just short of first slip. Phew!

11:21am

safcftm33

Oh dear. Not the start we wanted really.

New Batsman

New man at the crease for Durham is Dale Benkenstein.

11:16am

Wicket!

Stoneman goes for 1 caught behind by Ambrose off the bowling of Wright. Durham 11-2.

11:15am

Haslam

Nuts

Bowling

Barker will share the new ball with Wright.

11:08am

Appeal!

Wright and the slips are up looking for lbw against Stoneman, but the umpire says not out.

11:05am

BrianT

Salmon@ Always be a point for debate but I think the BBC commentary said that in the first two rounds of matches in both divisions, the team winning the toss has elected to field, except in one case. I am sure there are people on here who can check it out. C'mon Durham.

Bowling

Chris Wright will open things up for Warks. Mark Stoneman to face.

11:04am

Morning

The players are out on the field and play should be underway shortly.

11:01am

Haslam

Wicket last night means we can't afford a bad start. Come on smithy, big hundred i can feel it!

salmon

Thanks for all the news over last 3 days. The lads have done well, but still think we should have batted first.

auldtimer

To take this game into the 4th day against the current champs after being 50-6, and still have 9 wkts left shows that we're not the pushovers many expected this season. Win, lose or draw the lads have done well.

morzee

good luck today boys. First hour crucial no wickets down and its game on.

Mark

Thanks for the updates

Update

A report will be on the website soon and if I'm nor around in the future please feel free to follow me on twitter @sinc90. Laters guys.

6:25pm

Update

That's it from me today. Thanks for joining the LMC, I'll be back tomorrow morning but some fine person will be taking the helm from Lunch onwards.

6:24pm

Close of Play

Close of play on Day Three. Durham are 11-1, Smith 10* and Stoneman 1*. They need 402 runs to win.

6:23pm

Four!

Smith finds the boundary again. He moves to 10. Durham 11-1.

6:22pm

One over left

One over of play left today. Jeetan Patel will bowl.

6:18pm

Haslam

Money on a smithy 150. Easy.

Re: Brandonia

How about 407?

6:17pm

Four!

Smith crashes a ball from Wright to the boundary. Durham 6-1.

6:16pm

brandonia

I think the 411 is wildly optimistic.

3 overs in

Durham are 2-1 after 3 overs. Stoneman 0* and Smith 2*. Need 411 to win.

6:15pm

alan62

Would love Smithy to prove me and all the other doubters wrong

bryn

*coughs* wouldnt mind a drink...

Ed Syers

One ore wicket and we're into the batsmen!

brandonia

Whey!!!!! Off the mark.

auldtimer

We seem to have found a knack of making things hard for ourselves.

chrissafc

we've still got borthwick thorp and rushy to bat. all not lost yet

brandonia

I suppose on the bright side I'll not miss owt when I go to the match tomorrow.......

chrissafc

oh dear

New Batsman

The new man at the crease for Durham is Will Smith.

6:07pm

Wicket!

Jennings goes first ball lbw to Wright. Durham 0-1.

6:07pm

brandonia

*rolls eyes*

auldtimer

The top order will never have a better chance to redeem themselves for their 1st innings failings.

Appeal

Barker and the slips go up for lbw against Stoneman but the umpire says not out.

6:04pm

Twitter

In case you weren't aware you can tweet in the LMC as well, using @durhamcricket.

6:03pm

Bowling

Keith Barker will open the bowling for Warks.

6:02pm

Durham

Mark Stoneman and Keaton Jennings will open the innings for Durham.

6:02pm

@Martycricket

The @cricketingbears declare on 351-8, so @durhamcricket need 413 to win. IF successful it would be their second largest run chase!

BrianT

They're scared of us.

brandonia

Agreed Haslam. 350 was more than enough.

Haslam

Going past 400 lead is odd. Bad captaincy in my view.

Jennings

The wicket of Patel was Jennings' third in first-class cricket.

5:58pm

Re: auldtimer

I think so.

5:57pm

Declared

Warks have declared at 351-8 with a lead of 412. Durham need 413 to win.

5:56pm

auldtimer

5 overs to bat tonight?

Wicket!

Patel goes caught by Onions off the bowling of Jennings for 1. Warks 351-8 declared. Lead by 412.

5:56pm

Ed Syers

Ah, never mind then.

alan62

no batting points in second innings

auldtimer

Sorry, my mistake 6overs I think it is.

Mark

No bonus points in the second innings

brandonia

Must say I'm not disappointed that they've wasted overs tonight. Stupid for batting on. GRANTED they might only need 50 overs anyway but they had enough runs at 350.

Mark

Thanks

Ed Syers

They'll declare on 350, no doubt. They wouldn't declare four short of an extra point.

auldtimer

The most Durham can face tonight is 4 overs I think at the moment.

Haslam

This morning i predicted 340/7 dec. With us to face 7 overs. Not bad, unsure why no declaration now though.

Haslam

This morning i predicted 340/7 dec. With us to face 7 overs. Not bad, unsure why no declaration now though.

RE: Mark

Seven overs left tonight I think.

5:52pm

brandonia

Owa the moon Mr Ed didn't get a ton.

Mark

How many overs left tonight?

auldtimer

Nigh***ch man? Ha.

Wicket

Correction wicket is Borthwick's

5:50pm

New Batsman

New man at the crease for Warks is Jeetan Patel.

5:49pm

Wicket!

Clarke goes for 92 stumped by Mustard off the bowling of Stokes. Warks 346-7. Lead by 407.

5:48pm

auldtimer

Our lads will be pleased they're stopping out there, less overs for them to face tonight.

alan62

400 lead surely enough now

89 overs in

Warks are 340-6 after 89 overs. Clarke 86* and Woakes 34*. Lead by 401.

5:46pm

Ed Syers

I'd imagine they're going for the batting point.

Mark

Very cautious approach, I expected Warwickshire to be more positive.

Edged!

Clarke edges a Stokes delivery between Collingwood and Mustard. So close to a wicket there. Warks 326-6. Lead by 387.

5:40pm

auldtimer

I'm surprised they're still out there, the wicket must have really flattened out.

Ed Syers

A 380 run lead is more than enough for Warks, I'd expect a declaration soon.

85 overs in

Warks are 303-6 after 85. Clarke 69* and Woakes 15*. Lead by 364.

5:30pm

auldtimer

It seems a bit strange bowling Jennings when he's going to have to go straight back out and bat.

82 overs bowled

Warks are 292-6 after 82 overs. Clarke 67* and Woakes 7*. Lead by 353.

5:19pm

BrianT

The cracks are showing if they don't think they can bowl us out for 350. Especially if they read LMC and think we only have 8 batters.

safcluke

I'd be bowling if I was them. Stoneman/Jennings and Smith are three wickets they can get. Easily.

auldtimer

I still think we'll be batting for at least ten overs tonight.

brandonia

Cheers.

RE: Brandonia

18 overs left in the day

5:13pm

BrianT

18

brandonia

How many overs left in the day?

brandonia

Must say I don't rate the Warks commentator much. Very biased. When our lads were scoring boundaries yesterday he barely commented at all. It was hard to tell if any runs had been scored at all. Whereas now they're scoring runs he's like an excitable child.......

BrianT

Nothing wrong with the photo.

Wicket!

Thorp strikes to remove Ambrose lbw for 105. Warks 273-6. Lead by 334.

5:02pm

brandonia

Waiting for the hockey to finish so I can get some ice for it bryn.

Tom87

I was only joking, maybe it's just a bad photo.

bryn

Wheres brandas with my drink? Im spitting feathers here

Ambrose 100

Ambrose reaches 100 with a boundary. His century comes off 121 balls and has included 14 fours.

4:57pm

BrianT

You are being personal. Mine was an honest opinion of his cricketing ability.

Tom87

Some nashers on him Clarke like looking on his ESPNcricinfo profile, could eat an apple through a letter box.

BrianT

Shah, could be added to that list. Well done Ambrose, I'm so pleased.

morzee

you are right Brian. bloke i work with is member at Warwickshire and he says the same and doesn't rate him

auldtimer

I think we'll be batting with at least ten overs left today, it's like it's been a long hard day in the field for our lot and a nice relaxing one in the dressing room for their bowlers. We'll get to see what our openers are made of.

keenasmustard

Ambrose 100

74 overs in

Warks are 262-5 after 74 overs. Ambrose 98* and Clarke 51*. Lead by 323. Partnership 98*.

4:50pm

safcluke

Over-rated media blue eyed boy is the likes of Bopara/Hamilton Brown etc...

safcluke

Absolute rubbish.

BrianT

Clark over-rated media blue-eyed boy.

raydetmold

Their lead is not big enough , Will Smith will get half of these on his own

auldtimer

Warks will back themselves to bowl is out, you don't get to be champs by being cautious.

morzee

no he's worse than that

Griddle

Rikki is a great county player, just never quite right for the international stage, and he and Tiny Tim have made our bolwing attack look a bit weak.

safcluke

"Ricki Clark" is not crap.

BrianT

It would be a risk if they set us less than 375. Ricki Clark scored 50 and he's crap. Then again 150 might be enough. Depends which Durham.

70 overs bowled

Warks are 250-5 after 70. Ambrose 90* and Clarke 47*. Lead by 311. Partnership 86*.

4:38pm

Stan Drop

Flaying us now. Run rate 5.7 for the last ten overs.

bryn

oh now i look like im talking to myself :(

auldtimer

I can't honestly see Warks passing up the opportunity to bowl at us today at some point regardless of the score, our openers will not want to go out there tonight.

bryn

Aftas all,usual for me ta

Griddle

Realistically I can't see us chasing 300 (and they have that already).

manurule175

Would like to ask everyone what you think we are capable of chasing down here, realistic, ...

Bowling

Thorp shares the bowling duties after Tea.

4:27pm

Bowling

Borthwick opens the bowling for Durham after Tea.

4:24pm

Evening Session

The players are back for the Evening Session.

4:23pm

Haslam

Positives. Looks like batting all day may be getting easier. Wishful thinking? If the situation were reversed i wouldn't be viewing it as a certain victory.

manurule175

Yea, quick ton then have a couple of overs at us tonight? OR come out after tea and rattle them out leaving us 320 to win. Like the sound of second one personally, haha!

Griddle

Not sure they'll declare, unless with just a few overs left, more likely just to keep on piling the pressure on.

manurule175

Yea, couple of wickets would be nice now. Surely will start to open up after tea, get another 100 and declare? Leaving 380 ish to get?

stuartp

Getting away from us, need quick wickets after tea I think.

Mark

Thanks, so they're scoring a bit quicker than I thought.

Tea

It's Tea at Edgbaston. Warks are 222-5 after 66 overs. Ambrose 73* and Clarke 36*. Lead is 283.

4:04pm

chrissafc

Mike Denness RIP

RE: Mark

In the last 10 overs 41 runs have been scored. So 4.1 runs an over.

3:59pm

Mark

Warwickshire don't seem in any hurry- what's their run rate in the past hour?

64 overs bowled

Warks are 208-5 after 64 overs. Ambrose 66* and Clarke 29*. Lead is 269. Partnership 44*.

3:58pm

Change in Bowling

Will Smith comes into the attack and replaces Stokes.

3:54pm

61 overs in

Warks are 190-5 after 61 overs. Ambrose 61* and Clarke 16*. Lead by 251. Partnership 26*.

3:45pm

keenasmustard

Thought we had another wicket there

Change in Bowling

Rushworth replaces Onions in the Durham attack.

3:34pm

58 overs bowled

Warks are 186-6 after 58 overs. Ambrose 59* and Clarke 14*. Lead is 247.

3:34pm

auldtimer

If we get something out of this from 50-6 then the lads will have done fantastic and deserve some credit.

Stan Drop

Their overall run rate is 3.07 and in the last 10 overs only 2.6, so I don't think that there will be a declaration anytime soon. Nor do I think that they will risk giving us a sniff if they can avoid it. But as I said on Wednesday, before the start an away draw against the County Champs would be a good result.

54 overs bowled

Warks are 166-5 after 54 overs. Ambrose 57* and Clarke 0*. Lead is 227.

3:18pm

auldtimer

Onions turn now.

Appeal

Onions and the slips are up looking for lbw against Clarke but the umpire says no.

3:11pm

chrissafc

get them for under 300 would be good

Chance!

Ambrose gets an inside edge to a delivery from Onions which just misses the stumps.

3:10pm

New Batsman

New man at the crease for Warks is Rikki Clarke.

3:09pm

Wicket

No shot offered by Troughton and the ball would have hit middle stump as Stokes' delivery moved in late. Come on Durham!!

3:08pm

Tynevalleyblackcat

225 for 5. Come on lads, lets get them for under 300.

christoff

Get in Stokes, keep them coming

Wicket!

Stokes strikes as he gets Troughton lbw for 45. Warks 164-5. Lead is 225.

3:06pm

safcluke

Obviously 3 quick wickets puts us back in it. I wouldn't fancy chasing more than 260 with this current batting line up.

christoff

think your bang on there luke, probs about 400 lead by then and give us a tricky 10 overs

Dropped!

Borthwick leaps to his left to try and catch an edge from Troughton but he just can't hold it, from a Stokes' delivery. Unlucky Scott.

2:57pm

Re: safcluke

Oh yes, plenty of time for play today.

2:56pm

Tynevalleyblackcat

Come on Durham. Lets have a wicket or three.

safcluke

Obviously not including the 2 over turn around.

safcluke

Will we get them in do you think? They might bat and try and have 10 overs at us tonight. 40 overs at 4 RPO would give them a decent lead.

Re: Marchy22

Cheers Marchy, on the ball.

2:54pm

Re: safcluke

50 overs left today I think.

2:54pm

marchy22

50

safcluke

How many left today?

After 48 overs

Warks are 154-4 after 48 overs. Ambrose 51* and Troughton 39*. Lead is 215. Partnership is 90*.

2:51pm

marchy22

not attackibg for wickets anymore then

Re: Marchy22

Two slips in place now, but only one beforehand.

2:50pm

safcluke

They only have a lead of 202, they wont be declaring anytime soon...

marchy22

have we only one slip in?

marchy22

its just a waiting game now till warks decide to declare

Chance

Stokes finds the edge of Ambrose but the ball goes wide of Collingwood at slip and goes for four.

2:48pm

auldtimer

Is be really surprised if they changed the order now, it would show Warks, and Smith, they had no confidence in him.

Appeal

Thorp and the slips appeal for lbw against Troughton but the umpire says not out.

2:41pm

christoff

I wonder if they are tempted to open with Scotty in the second innings, he did it a couple of times last season, drop stoneman to 3 and smith to 7?

44 overs in

Warks are 141-4 after 44 overs. Troughton 37* and Ambrose 40*. Lead is 202.

2:36pm

auldtimer

I hope Borthwick gets amongst the wickets to go with his runs, make it a birthday he won't forget.

Maiden

Thorp sends down a maiden in the 44th over.

2:35pm

marchy22

they will just blast us after tea unless we start taking wickets

christoff

i'm confident we can get a draw from here which is a great result hopefully they will bat to long and make it easier for us

auldtimer

The longer they bat the better chance we have of getting something out of the game, they have the hard decision to make, we just need to keep playing.

safcluke

I think they'll want to bowl all day tomorrow. As proven yesterday our lower order can hang around.

christoff

I think they will want a bit more than 350, depends how brave/confident they are feeling

marchy22

haway lads take a wicket and the slow the scoring down

Haslam

Not over just yet, i think they will want nearly 400on here as the forecast is good and 300 / 350 lead is a risk.

Update

Lead is now 200 runs for Warwickshire.

2:30pm

stuartp

But this also makes it look like if you get in you can stay in on this pitch.

auldtimer

At the rate Warks are going I can see them declaring half way through the last session with a lead of 350 unless we bowl them out, which looks unlikely at the moment as there doesn't sound a lot in the wicket for our bowlers.

marchy22

we need a hat trick from soneone n

safcluke

Jacques.

christoff

the red nose reindeer?

safcluke

Would love to see us sign Rudolph.

christoff

how many overs are left today?

Griddle

They still have Chanderpaul though Luke..........

safcluke

Derby 28/6

Griddle

Current partnership 60 runs, 13.3 overs, RR: 4.44

After 40 overs

Warks are 124-4 after 40 overs. Troughton 27* and Ambrose 31*. Lead is 183. Partnership 60*.

2:21pm

RE: Griddle

Last 10 overs have gone for 37 runs.

2:20pm

marchy22

looks like we will hve to bat for a draw

Griddle

Great partnership this, and if it carries on much longer it could be curtains for us, scoring at almost 5 an over now these two.....

marchy22

we needed quick wickets after lunch

Appeal

Borthwick and Mustard go up for a stumping against Ambrose but the umpire says not out.

2:13pm

Change in Bowling

Scott Borthwick replaces Onions in the Durham attack.

2:12pm

37 overs in

Warks are 115-4 after 37. Troughton 24* and Ambrose 27*. Lead is 176.

2:09pm

Never watched it, just recall Blakey as being a miserable so and so.

chrissafc

"i'll have you butler"

BrianT

Blakey from "On The Buses" Been trying to remember his name all morning.

safcluke

Ed - Rocky has been inconstant for 5/6 season now. This season is a big one for him. He needs to score big runs.

Maiden

Onions sends down his sixth maiden of the day in the 35th over.

That's a fair comment Ed. we've been crying out for an overseas batsman for a couple of years now to be fair. KJ deserves a chance, I believe Rocky will come good. Some of the others though must be on borrowed time.

After 34 overs

Warks are 107-4 after 34 overs. Troughton 17* and Ambrose 26*. Lead is 168. Partnership 43*.

1:55pm

Ed Syers

To be fair to the players, you can't expect them to be better than they are. Smith hasn't been consistant for a while, Rocky and KJ still have a lot to learn. It's not their fault they're in the top order. If anyone, blame the club for not strengthening.

brandonia

*unacceptable

brandonia

Auldtimer - I'd hope they would find it in acceptable themselves. I never for one moment said or even thought the players don't care.

brandonia

Griddle - To a degree I guess it would be yes. If they began to do it on a regular basis they should be dropped/rested/put in the 2nds. I don't think that's unfair?

chrissafc

i imagine they are all very disappointed. nobody on here has said they will be happy/find it acceptable

Play and Miss!!

Onions bowls a beauty to Troughton who has a dart at it and it just misses the outside edge.

1:48pm

auldtimer

I'm pretty sure the lads who failed will be more disappointed than anyone, what makes you think they find it acceptable?

Griddle

50/6 is not acceptable to me, but if we won the game by virtue of wickets from Smith & Jennings, would that be unacceptable because the strike bowlers had failed?

chrissafc

agree brandonia.

brandonia

Griddle - I don't think it's judgemental at all. Is 50-6 acceptable to you? As I said, the lower order got us out of the proverbial. If I was in that team I'd be asking questions of my teammates. Nothing wrong with expecting or wanting high standards!

Bowling

Rushworth will open things up after lunch.

1:44pm

Afternoon session

Players are back out after lunch at Edgbaston, play should resume shortly.

1:44pm

Griddle

Benks needs to find some runs soon I reckon, as does Will Smith (the epinous actor might do better at the moment).

marchy22

stokes has started wel

Haslam

I genuinely expect Jennings, benks, stokes and colly to regularly contribute. Indeed stokes has started the season ok i reckon.

marchy22

we could score 284 everytime we bat with the top order contributing nothing everytime like what is happening at the minute, it shouldnt be down to the lower order to dig us out of a whole all the time

Griddle

Brandonia - not quite what I said, I'm saying it's fairer to assess the effort once the innings is completed. Agreed that 5/3 and 50/6 are poor starts but pathetic seems rather judgemental. Would like to see much more from our openers, but Keaton did well v Somerset didn't he?

Haslam

Bit of a storm in a teacup here lads. I'm sure we're all unsure about the top order but lets see what they do in the next innings (hope more than expectation). We have a chance here but still in second place at the moment i reckon.

auldtimer

There's 11 players in a team, not just 6..

brandonia

One things for sure - they're due a decent score!

chrissafc

it certainly wouldn't be pathetic but i'll repeat it again 50/6 is pathetic

auldtimer

I realise current form suggests otherwise, but there's still a possibility our top order can go out and save this game, or even win it. Would that be "pathetic"?

brandonia

So by your logic Griddle - next time we're 50-6 we should say nothing?

Griddle

It is a team game Chris, so surely you should assess the team performance at the end of the innings -284 is a decent effort after a poor start, and certainly not pathetic.

brandonia

@auldtimer - I think it's fair enough to state that 50-6 is unacceptable after what Warwickshire scored. The 153 partnership from Colly and Scotty merely highlighted what could be done with a bit of application - the thing is, that partnership papered over the cracks. We're now fully in with a chance in this game thanks to that partnership (and Thorp/Scotty's) but there are a few on here who would let that mask what was a terrible start. We could just as easily have been rolled for 120.

chrissafc

those 3 players contributed to approx 150 of our runs

chrissafc

borthwick/thorp/rushworth didn't have any problems scoring runs on the same pitch against the same bowlers

chrissafc

whether you think they are good/bad players, 50/6 can only be dressed up 1 way regardless of anything else.

chrissafc

I will also say we have the best bowling attack in the division

chrissafc

auldtimer - I will repeat what I said again. I will fail to understand how anyone can defend 50/6. It was pathetic. That said I said on here last night that our lower order would do us proud with the bat and they did. Got more faith in them with the bat than the top order

Tynevalleyblackcat

No crusty bread. I gave that up last year as part of my 'calorie controlled diet'!!

auldtimer

Re brandonia- maybe some people are sensible enough to wait till all 4 innings are completed before getting hysterical.

Ian17

* even if some people disagree! (sorry, typing too quickly!)

Ian17

@brandonia, @marchy22, @chrissafc Full agree, it's good to hear a wide range of views and opinions, even if some people agree. I always felt that the Forum was the best, er... forum for general discussion about the club, performances, the future etc, rather than Live Match Chat which was more game specific. But since the Forum was binned, I guess this is the only outlet we have. Although there's an external forum somewhere for Durham CCC chat - I remember someone posting a link a while ago.

brandonia

With crusty bread?

Tynevalleyblackcat

Just had lentil and Bacon soup

brandonia

Anyway, back to the cricket - I'd say honours even. If we can restrict them to no more than a 250 lead then we have a chance. Be lovely to get into the lower order before 2pm! As for now, I'll ask again - who's having what for lunch?!

Ian17

@keenas: No, I haven't got mine either. I thought they normally came out before the start of the new season, but unless it came over Christmas/New Year and got overlooked, I haven't got it.

brandonia

Marchy is a quality poster on here. He isn't negative, he's just a realist. I'd rather listen to Marchy's opinion than the opinion of those who refuse to criticise the team, ever, even if we're 50/6. Marchy calls a spade a spade and I like that quality in people.

Mark

@keenasmustard No I haven't got the magazine this year. Might be delayed because the yearbooks weren't ready last week- they're supposed to be available next week so maybe magazine will be sent out then.

Lunch

Lunch at Edgbaston and Warks are 86-4. Troughton 10* and Ambrose 12*. Lead by 147.

1:03pm

marchy22

still some quality battibg to come for these so we need a couple of quick ones after lunch hopefully

Haslam

If the next session goes the same it would be about 210/8. Maybe our bowlers will give the batsmen a chance of redemption?

marchy22

yes they can be thats why they are opinions but unlike some people i dont go on like my opinions are right and that no one elses opinions matter

auldtimer

Opinions can be wrong.

marchy22

haway one more befire lunch plz

marchy22

some people are just not interested in other peoples opinions, what they think is right and if u say otherwise u get slated

Maiden

Onions sends down his fifth maiden of the innings in the 30th over.

12:58pm

chrissafc

i'll always have an opinion. I used to get slagged off last season for criticising a top order batsman with an average of 9

29 overs bowled

Warks are 85-4 after 29 overs. Ambrose 12* and Troughton 9*. Lead is 146. Partnership 21*.

12:56pm

marchy22

be careful what u say chris, some people feel that you arent entitled to have ur opinions

chrissafc

50/6 can only be dressed up one way only

keenasmustard

Did anyone get their copy of Around the Wicket (the old Riverside Review) this year?

chrissafc

the bowling/lower order have been superb again

chrissafc

to be fair marchy had every right to criticise the top order batting. it was pathetic again

Griddle

Yeah, leave Marchy alone, he's not been overly negative, just been asking others to explain their own reasoning. Still looks like a tough situation by the way, need to keep getting wickets!

auldtimer

Time for Onions to get his name on the sheet.

CollingwoodFTM

Is one more before lunch too much to ask?

marchy22

why am i singled out all the time? im entitled to my opinions, if you dont like them fair enough, i dont criticise anyone elses opinions cos ur entitled to then through freedom of speech so stop picking me out all the time thanks

Haslam

To be fair Marchy seems quite positive when we're bowling.

alan62

Excellent mornings work from the boys. Wickets shared and bowling very tight. Keep it up

Tynevalleyblackcat

133 for 4. Can now say the result of this game is officially in the balance? Great effort to get here from where we were at 50 for 6 yesterday.

chrissafc

once again the bowling doing us proud.

Change in Bowling

Graham Onions returns to the attack from the Pavillion End.

12:47pm

christoff

Marchy are you there do you have a positive comment? This is not pathetic or embarrasing

chrissafc

this is getting interesting

morzee

fantastic morning session this Durham. but let's keep our feet on the ground and remember they bat all the way down.

auldtimer

Interesting game for the neutrals now. Nail biting for the rest of us.

New Batsman

New man at the crease is Tim Ambrose.

12:44pm

brandonia

Aye, I've changed my mind Stu. I want FIVE now marra.

christoff

This is brilliant stuff come on Durham

Wicket

Evans went to pull Stokes and ended up getting a top edge leaving Benks with a comfortable catch. Lead is 125.

12:44pm

stuartp

Well you have your 4 brandonia

Wicket!

Stokes strikes again as Evans top edges his shot straight to Benks for 2. Warks 64-4.

12:43pm

26 overs in

After 26 overs Warks are 64-3 Evans 2* and Troughton 0*. Lead is 125.

12:41pm

Maiden

Thorp bowls his fifth maiden in just his eighth over of the day.

12:41pm

brandonia

Done well to get shot of Ian Porterfield. Reckon we need ATLEAST four down at lunch though. Speaking of which, I've just had a lovely chicken curry with half rice/half chips from Angus Deli in Seaham. It was devine.

CollingwoodFTM

Afternoon all. Good start in the first hour. Keep it going lads.

Update

Warks are effectively 124-3 due to their first innings lead.

12:30pm

New Batsman

The new man at the crease is Laurie Evans.

12:29pm

Haslam

So is troughton fine? Glad to hear it but it didn't sound great yesterday.

Ed Syers

Two new batsmen in now, keep it up lads!

Wicket

Big strike as Durham pick up two wickets in three balls. Chopra had a swing at a ball down the legside and it caught the edge. Come on Durham!!

12:28pm

Tynevalleyblackcat

Game on now. 123 for 3

christoff

Yeeess, Come on Durham keep them coming!!!

chrissafc

huge wicket

Wicket!

Ben Stokes gets a wicket with his first ball as Chopra edges behind to Mustard for 24. Warks 62-3.

12:27pm

Tynevalleyblackcat

123 for 2. A couple of quick wickets and we would be right back in this match.

New Batsman

The new man at the crease for Warks is Jim Troughton.

12:24pm

Wicket

Crucial strike from Thorp as Porterfield was starting to look comfortable. Another loose drive from a Warks batsman though.

12:23pm

Wicket!

Thorp gets a breakthrough as Porterfield edges behind to Mustard for 21. Warks 62-2.

12:23pm

21 overs in

Warks are 62-1 after 21 overs. Chopra 24* and Porterfield 21*. Lead by 123.

12:20pm

Stan Drop

Bring on the Birthday Boy!

Ed Syers

They're picking up the run rate, could do with a wicket very soon.

18 overs bowled

Warks are 54-1 after 18. Chopra 22* and Porterfield 15*. Lead is 115.

12:09pm

Griddle

I think perhaps they bowled well and we batted poorly to get to 50/6

Haslam

We would struggle to chase over 250 but we are going to have to. Bat time and see how things pan out, i reckon warks 340-7 dec with 7 overs left in the day and we end tomorrow on 321-9

auldtimer

Conditions change marchy, the weather plays a massive part in batting conditions

Ed Syers

Wickets are vital as far as I'm concerned. We'll struggle to chase a lead of 300+.

Haslam

I was referring to the run rate, 8 runs in last 5 overs. Bore them out.

marchy22

so why were we 50-6 if its a good batting track

morzee

because these are good batsmen on a good track

Griddle

We put on over 150 for our 7th wicket Marchy, I'd say that's a sign of a decent wicket for batting?

15 overs in

Warks are 43-1 after 15 overs. Chopra 19* and Porterfield 7*. Lead is 104*.

11:57am

marchy22

why are wickets gonna be hard to come by

Haslam

I was thinking that griddle, they will want to have us in tonight but only if they have 350 lead.

Griddle

Seems wickets will be hard to come by today, so might become a bit of a containing exercise to stop them building a big lead too quickly - can't make it easy for them to choose when to declare.

Change in Bowling

Rushworth replaces Onions at the City End.

11:52am

Haslam

Huge couple of hours coming up, so long as we get stuck in there's no shame in losing this but lets keep pushing them!

marchy22

haway lads

Maiden

Thorp bowls a maiden with his first over on the innings.

11:44am

Change in Bowling

Callum Thorp replaces Rushworth from the Pavillion End.

11:39am

marchy22

wicket please

Maiden

Onions sends down his second maiden of the day.

11:39am

After 10 overs

Warks are 35-1 after 10 overs. Chopra 15* and Porterfield 3*. Lead by 96.

11:36am

brandonia

Ha'way lads - 30/3!

Tynevalleyblackcat

Good start, but they are effectively 83 for 1 in a 1 innings match, so we need a few more to continue the fightback.

marchy22

another quick three would be better

auldtimer

Decent start, would another quick one be asking too much?

christoff

Get in Rushy lad!!!

keenasmustard

Have we got him out twice? :)

New Batsman

New man at the crease is William Porterfield.

11:24am

Wicket!

Just what Durham need, the perfect start to the day as Westwood knicks behind attempting a drive.

11:23am

Wicket!

Rushworth strikes as Westwood goes for 11 caught behind by Mustard. Warks 22-1.

11:23am

After 5 overs

Warks are 12-0 after 5 overs. Chopra 6* and Westwood 6*.

11:14am

Maiden!

Onions sends down a maiden in the third over of the day.

11:14am

Play and Miss!!

Rushworth sends down a beauty to Westwood which somehow misses off stump and the outside edge.

11:09am

Bowling

Chris Rushworth will share the new ball from the Pavillion End.

11:05am

auldtimer

Durham just have to play the game as it comes now, it's Warks that have the tough decisions to make.

Bowling

Graham Onions will open things up for Durham from the City End.

11:02am

safcluke

Haway lads, few early wickets.

Update

The players are making their way out onto the field and play should be underway shortly.

11:00am

brandonia

Morning folks! Hoping for our bowlers to yet again perform this morning! I've spoken to Septic Peg and she says Warks will be 71-6 at Lunch, all out for 149 by Tea and Durham will close the day at 93-1, with Jennings unbeaten on 52.

Griddle

It was hard to be positive at 5/3 and 50/6, and I was one of the more negative, but nice to be proved wrong.

Morning

Morning fellas. Liking the positivity in the comments so far today.

10:42am

Griddle

Delighted with the turnaround from 50/6, brilliant comeback from capt. Colly and young Borthwick. Still think this looks beyond us, but good that we are showing such fight against the champions.

Stan Drop

... not forgetting steely performance by Colly and fine support from Callum. As auldtimer says, there are four innings and our top order will have another chance for glory later. What's to whinge aboot.

Stan Drop

Also on a positive note let us all wish Scotty a very happy birthday. Any century is Good, to get one batting at N°8 is special, and to come in at 50/6 and still get a ton is exceptional by any standards. Well done lad!

auldtimer

I think some people forget the game is over 4 innings, lets wait till after the 4th innings before we start calling for heads to roll.

christoff

Happy birthday to Scott and congratulations on his maiden championship 100!!

Stan Drop

G'morning LMCers. Good forecast for today and tomorrow at Edgbaston. BTW, If my memory is correct, at this fixture two years ago Durham were all out for 102 in first innings, but went on to win the match! So we are actually in a much better place this time. Hawaay the lads!

christoff

Totally agree auldtimer and BrianT can't believe how many on here just support the players doing well and slate the ones struggling for form. Cracking days cricket yesterday and still in this one, would have took a draw at the start and still will - howay the lads

keenasmustard

I understand what you guys are saying but human nature being what it is, whether it be cricket or football, we always cheer when we're winning and criticising when we're losing. Of course we love the players and the club and give them our support all the time. Otherwise we'd never go back.

auldtimer

Yes, let's support ALL the lads playing, the game is only half way through and we're still in it.

BrianT

Can we all be a bit more supportive of the team today, all day?

michael shaw

67 for nowt,on night shift, now lets bowl them out for 275,that should make it intresting.

Durham

That's it from me today. I'll catch you all tomorrow.

7:23pm

Update

That was an entertaining day of cricket and a long one as well. We saw a great fightback from Durham especially from Scott Borthwick and Colly. Scotty got his first Championship 100 with a splendid knock, he really saved Durham today.

7:22pm

Close of Play

Warwickshire finish the day 6-0 after 2 overs. They lead by 67.

7:21pm

Rushworth to bowl

Rushworth to bowl the final over of the day.

7:17pm

One ove left

One over left today

7:17pm

Five!!

Rushworth nearly runs out Chopra but his throw misses the stumps and goes for four overthrows.

7:16pm

RE: michael shaw

No don't think so. We had stoppages for rain and early tea.

7:15pm

Bowling

Onions will open the bowling for Durham.

7:14pm

Warks

Chopra and Westwood will open the innings for Warks.

7:14pm

michael shaw

very slow over rate!-me thinks?

michael shaw

well its all turned out well, but it could and should have been much better.happy birthday scotty.for tomorrow

Stan Drop

Is there more play tonight?

Haslam

Ed i assume one wicket means its then stumps but nice thinking.

Stan Drop

True AT, but must make special mention in despatches for Colly and Scotty. I still think that a heroic draw here (against the county champions mind!) would be ... well, heroic and a good result for the season.

stuartp

Wow we we not a lot for 6 when I left work for the long drive home today. Scotty and Collie did one heck of a job

chrissafc

lower order you mean

Ed Syers

Three wicket maiden please, Bunny.

auldtimer

Excellent response from the TEAM.

roker1973

catch yere lot the morra FTM

brandonia

Wicket tonight please lads!

bryn

Haway lads lets gan nap!!!

roker1973

well done too the lower order

Haslam

Behind but recoverable. Get a couple of early wickets and we'll be ahead i reckon.

Durham

Great effort by the lads to get Durham up to 284 after a poor start to the innings. They now have 1 over to bowl to Warks this evening.

7:06pm

Ed Syers

Can't complain after the start we had, shame we couldn't have pushed on for 300 though.

Wicket!

Thorp is run out for 27 and Durham are all out for 284. They trail by 61.

7:05pm

chrissafc

lower order lads showing the top order up here

roker1973

we need sum new blood

5 overs left

5 overs left today.

7:03pm

After 77 overs

Durham are 284-9 after 77 overs. Rushworth 17* and Thorp 27*. Partnership 20*.

7:03pm

Haslam

Smith does it now and again (i recall a fantastic opening a year or two ago with Deva against Derbyshire i think...) but nowhere near often enough. Stoneman is at least still mid-20's but didn't he have time out with injury a couple of years back and miss most of the season? I still like Benks, Stokes, Colly and think Jennings has potential. Would agree Richo needs to play next match though.

Four!

Another Rushworth boundary as he smacks a Barker delivery over mid-off to the fence. He's on 17*.

7:02pm

auldtimer

Warks will be a lot more disappointed after blasting the top of the order out and not the lower order, than if it were the other way round.

Four!

Rushworth does it again and he drives a Barker delivery to the boundary. He moves to 13*.

7:01pm

roker1973

can we stick our top order were the sun dont shine

chrissafc

can we not stick the lower order in first for our 2nd innings?

Four!

Another boundary from Rushworth as he blasts the ball over the top to the boundary. He moves to 8*.

6:58pm

roker1973

had a few yrs now haslam too prove themselves but have failed

Ed Syers

Imagine how good we'd be if we had a solid top order!

Four!

Rushworth powers a shot to the boundary to get off the mark. Nice shot Rushy!

6:56pm

roker1973

our openers are not as good as the mags centre backs but better say nowt mere

roker1973

better than sunday ehh

raydetmold

evening Roker , superb comeback today

roker1973

allreet ray marra lol lol

Haslam

I think you have to distinguish between the ones with potential, the ones who are out of form and the genuine dross. I'd say only smith and stoneman are perhaps in the last category.

Wicket!

Onions goes for two as he's caught behind by Ambrose off the bowling of Patel. Durham 264-9.

6:50pm

brandonia

Bunny out.

raydetmold

of course its the 11 that count but if somebody never contributes anything then he shouldnt be in the team

chrissafc

the top order has failed massively once again and have been bailed out by others yet again. it's about time they knuckled down and chipped in with runs

Ouch

Troughton goes down after trying to catch the ball. Not good for the Warks captain.

6:50pm

chrissafc

got to disagree with you auldtimer

auldtimer

There's 11 players out there, it's the sum total of the 11 that count.

alan62

Only 4 batsmen in double figures, only 2 of them in the top six of the order. Yes it has been a brilliant recovery but can not keep expecting the lower order to get us out of trouble

raydetmold

the batting line up is a shambles , no.3 is guarenteed his place even if never scores another run , pathetic is the right word

brandonia

Excellent sportsmanship for the Wearsiders in not running.

safcluke

Auldtimer - you've just described Smith/Stoneman.

brandonia

Troughton injured.

chrissafc

to be fair thats exactly how i would call our top order. i've said a few times on here the lower order would sort us out as they have done many times before.

Haslam

I agree auld, though I'm guilty myself. When we were 45/5 i said we should get past 200, i should have said 300!

auldtimer

Not a bad effort from a bunch of "frail" "pathetic" "disappointing" "shambles" of a batting line up. I wish some people wouldn't throw the towel in too soon.

New Batsman

The new man at the crease for Durham is Graham Onions.

6:44pm

brandonia

Ha'way Bunny! Head down lad. Our aim should be to still be batting tomorrow. AND of course to pass 300.

roker1973

great show by the lads too get back in this

Durham

Scotty knicks behind to Chopra at slip for 101. It brings an end to a great innings. Well played Scott.

6:43pm

chrissafc

superb effort scott. also excellent from thorp. familiar story yet again with the batting

Wicket!

Borthwick goes for 101 caught behind by Chopra off the bowling of Clarke. Durham 261-8.

6:42pm

THFCCHRIS

A quite remarkable fight back from when we were 5-3 the lads deserve a lot of credit and what a birthday present for Scott

mac6

Superb effort Scott. Keep going Cal

72 overs bowled

Durham are 260-7 after 72 overs. Borthwick 101* and Thorp 24*. Partnership 57*.

6:40pm

Four

Thorp finds the boundary again and he moves to 22*.

6:37pm

safcluke

Showing them how its done. Well done

Borthwick

Scotty's also recorded Durham's first century of the season in the Championship.

6:35pm

bryn

He deserves a mb,just a small one mind school night and all that!

stephsafc

Good going borthwick! Haway lads!

Mark

Brilliant

Borthwick

Scotty's 23 tomorrow. Not a bad birthday gift to himself. What an innings!

6:32pm

auldtimer

I think the fight back today shows that we're not the pushovers some people think we are.

250 up for Durham

Also Durham bring up their 250 in the 70th over. Well done lads!!

6:31pm

Durhamlad

Try and see the day out and its pretty much even stevens

Durhamlad

What a way to get a 100. Outstanding.

brandonia

250 :)

brandonia

Deficit into double figures too.

morzee

great effort Scott lad. nice anearly birthday present for tomorrow.

brandonia

Not a bad birthday present that :).

Durhamlad

Yeah agreed Borthwick is showing outstanding promise and provides much needed runs lower down like Plunkett used to do. Superb fielder and hes a decent spinner too but currently he can get in this team purely for his batting. As for Smith i really have no clue!

100 for Borthwick!!!!

Scotty gets his 100!!! He brings it up with a three. That's his second first class 100, and his first in the Championship. Well played Scotty!!!

6:28pm

alan62

brilliant effort Scotty

raydetmold

Superb Scotty , take a bow son

safcluke

Well done Scott. Excellent effort.

brandonia

Scotty 100!!!!!

After 69 overs

Durham are 246-7 after 69 overs with Borthwick 98* and Thorp 12*. Partnership 43*.

6:26pm

Re: brandonia

12 overs left today.

6:25pm

brandonia

How many overs left tonight?

brandonia

Evening all!! Epic effort from the lower order. We definitely have the best number 8 on the County Scene. However we have to sort the top order out. The fight back from Colly and Scotty have only papered over the cracks.

raydetmold

WHY ? Durhamlad WHY ?

morzee

must look good in the nets

Durhamlad

Ive said exactly that about Smithy for nigh on two years but he gets played every single game :O

safcluke

Haway Scott.

Durhamlad

We are desperate for a Diva, Hussey, Rudolph type opener to get us off to a good start and protect the likes of Stokes from facing the new ball so early. Pity we are broke though :s

Four!

Another Scotty boundary and he moves three short of a century. Come on Scotty!!

6:22pm

raydetmold

correct Chris and ill tell you time and time again Will Smith does not warrant a place in the team , absolutely ridiculous

auldtimer

Embarrassing or just good team work?

Four!

Thorp edges a delivery from Woakes over gully and to the boundary. That was close! He moves to 10*.

6:21pm

chrissafc

as i said at 3pm, every faith in the lower order. embarrassing that time and time again they have to dig the openers out of a big hole. well done again scotty

Fours!

auldtimer

Re BrianT- That would give them a chance of the draw, we don't want to take any prisoners, ha.

michael shaw

two batting points anybody.

BrianT

Think we should bat till tea tomorrow and that would give us four sessions to bowl them out. Well you started it!

Four!

6:00pm

thirskdurham

Hello.

auldtimer

If we can bat for an hour or so tomorrow morning it's going to give them a hard decision to make, do they try and bat us out the game or leave us a tempting target. If we snatch early wickets in their innings then things could swing our way quickly.

mac6

Well played colly kept it going scott

Dropped!!

Borthwick gets an edge to a Barker delivery but Clarke drops it a second slip! Phew!

5:04pm

Mark

Morzee sorry!

Mark

Agreed morse, England have never found a good replacement for Colly.

morzee

was reading an article on England's struggles over last 18 months and how that coincided with colly retiring and how he hasn't been replaced. England's loss...

After 48 overs

Durham are 150-6 after 48 overs Colly 54* and Borthwick 40*. Partnership 100*

5:01pm

Mark

Brilliant partnership well done to Colly and Borthwick.

keenasmustard

Well done Colly lad.

ashleys army

When it was needed most colly great effort

alan62

Played colly, first 100 of the season would be nice.

mac6

Re: manurule175

196 I think is the follow on target.

4:31pm

michael shaw

OOPS! WATCH OUT

Tynevalleyblackcat

195 I think?

manurule175

How many do we have to get or need to avoid follow on?

Change in Bowling

Patel has replaced Wright in the Warks attack.

4:29pm

Four

Borthwick crashes another shot to the boundary off Jeetan Patel.

4:28pm

chrissafc

borthwick and thorp i credit for our revivial last season. their partnership vs middlesex at home was outstanding

alan62

Should scott move up the order at least before the colonel?

RE: chrissafc

Very handy batsman to have at number eight. Good man to have in a crisis.

4:26pm

chrissafc

pat on the back to scott borthwick so far. showing the top order how to bat once again

chrissafc

stewards also

chrissafc

the dealings i have had with the club about disability issues for my partner, the club have been excellent, likewise the players. couldn't fault any of them

Re: keenasmustard

I'm sure the club cares deeply about the opinions of all their members and supporters. So yes go for it.

4:20pm

chrissafc

100 up. borthwick doing his bit AGAIN with the bat

keenasmustard

Would it do any good Simon?

100 up

Durham bring their 100 up in the 38th over as Colly picks up a single. Durham 100-6.

4:18pm

chrissafc

can't disagree with that, i heard a lot of similar views at the ground last week

Mark

Membership definitely a very good deal and with Colly,Benks and Geoff Cook in charge of the team we are in safe hands. I just wonder though how much input they have regarding overseas players? Possibly not as much as they would like.

After 36 overs

Durham are 96-6 after 36 overs. Collingwood 33* and Borthwick 16*. Partnership 46*.

4:12pm

Re: keenasmustard

Count to 10 my friend! Have you contacted the club regarding these issues.

4:10pm

keenasmustard

To be honest Chrissafc I think many people share the same views. When I'm at the Riverside the other members seem to be of the same mind - that the running of the club is a joke.

auldtimer

So, the clubs got no money and they try to boost the finances by promoting the events they are holding at the ground, and that's wrong why?

chrissafc

ah ok i was assuming you were someone i know who is at the game today. oh well, you share the same views anyway

Four

Another boundary by Scotty as he drives Clarke down the ground for four. He moves to 15*.

4:07pm

keenasmustard

No, I'm at work and it seems I may have too much time on my hands ;)

chrissafc

keenasmustard - random question but are you at the game today?

chrissafc

been meaning to look into the wedding venue stuff at the cricket club. will have to make queries

keenasmustard

And Instagram. The club are getting very excited over Instagram. Who cares?

keenasmustard

Last month the headline on the club website was for a wedding. Yes, seriously. Perhaps they were confusing the bride wearing white with cricketers whites.

After 34 overs

Durham are 88-6 after 34 overs, with Collingwood 30* and Borthwick 11*. Partnership 38*.

4:03pm

keenasmustard

Also it appears the club don't reply on twitter for info regarding 2nd XI scores etc. But if you want to know about Peppa Pig they can't reply quick enough.

Four

Nice shot from Borthwick as he clips a leg glance to the boundary off Wright. He moves to 11*.

4:02pm

RE: Griddle

Online shop link, http://www.durhamccc.co.uk/pages/tickets-and-merchandise/

4:00pm

alan62

How much of the Ashes money goes to the club and how much to the ECCB? Don't forget if ply is lost for a full day we get money back

Change in Bowling

Wright replaces Woakes at the City End.

3:59pm

Ian17

Agreed! I don't get to anything like as much cricket as I'd wish and I still think I get more than my money's worth!

keenasmustard

I think we've almost shot our bolt getting the Ashes test. Cardiff bid too much in an England/Sri Lanka test match and the sp*** crowd almost bankrupted them. Yorkshire got into financial difficulty bidding too much for the Pakistan/aus test where no one turned up. Now this Ashes test should be a full house and the cost of tickets (most bought 2 yrs in advance) should have brought a nice little sum. Add to that the success of the Tom Jones concert we should be quids in but where's the cash?

alan62

Membership is a good deal full stop. When I compare what I pay to watch cricket to what I pay to watch football it is superb value for money

Griddle

Does Durham have an online shop for replica shirts etc?

Ian17

Maybe we just need to be a bit more realistic - there's nothing like as much money in cricket as there is in (say) Prem football so I think we're sometimes guilty of inflated expectations. That said, I'm sure there are areas of opportunity - I visited the club shop at the Rose Bowl last season and it's enormous - they must make a decent amount of cash just on merchandise!

auldtimer

We only have to score another 450 in this and our next innings to give our bowlers a chance.

Four

Borthwick gets his first boundary of the innings off Woakes. Durham 78-6.

3:51pm

Edge

Collingwood gets an edge to a ball from Woakes but it lands safely. Phew.

3:51pm

chrissafc

either way i thought it was a good deal.

Ian17

Another possibility. Although two tickets for the Ashes is pretty much the same as a year's membership!!! Like you though Chris, I thought it was a decent deal and a good way to show support for the club.

chrissafc

that said i always struggle to take much of what harker says seriously.

auldtimer

Maybe the club was just trying to get someone in for cheap and realised it couldn't be done with the money they had?

safcluke

I wonder how many took them up?

chrissafc

may well be

safcluke

5 year memberships anything to do with Ashes costs maybe?

Ian17

I thought perhaps the five-year memberships were a way of raising a decent amount of cash up front, which could then be used/invested - on players or capital projects or both. Maybe the income hasn't been as much as they'd hoped.

alan62

Being cynical Mark, maybe making noises about recruitment to encourage renewal of membership?

After 30 overs

Durham are 73-6 after 30 overs. Colly 25* and Borthwick 1*. Partnership 23*.

3:45pm

Mark

True, if we can't afford overseas player then we just have to get on with it but the various statements coming from the club during the close season were confusing to say the least-why for example say they were looking to bring in a top class batsman and then say there was no money available? If the money wasn't there to start with why bother looking for someone they couldn't hope to afford.

keenasmustard

The way we've been batting today, maybe Peppa Pig should have opened instead of Rocky. Couldn't have done any worse.

chrissafc

we felt as though it was good value. the club have been good with us, only fair to show our support the best way we could

michael shaw

at least we will have a good supply of bacon sandwiches.

auldtimer

If the money's not there it's not there, we can all say we need to get a top order batsman till we're blue in the face, but if we can't afford it, or the right one isn't available then that's the way it is.

Ian17

Good to hear, Chris, I was beginning to wonder if I was the only one! ;-)

chrissafc

dont think their is any concern about that ian, we bought a 5yr membership as well.

keenasmustard

Maybe the club are hoping ot appoint Peppa Pig as the next Chief Exec. If that's the case, bacon will be off the menu in the members lounge and Austins.

Ian17

I agree with a lot of these comments - it definitely seems as though all's not well in the Durham CCC camp at the moment. Lots of little things, any one of which taken in isolation probably wouldn't be cause for concern but when added together... But - we need to get behind the team and hope/trust that things get sorted! And from a purely selfish point of view, I've paid for a 5 year membership and I'd quite like to be still watching Durham playing first class cricket in 2017...

christoff

howay lads get us another 126 and avoid the follow on!

Mark

Agree auldtimer but we do need someone at the top of the order with a proven track record. That was the case before the season started so not a knee jerk reaction to 3 poor top order displays in the first 2 games.

michael shaw

here, here!,lets not have a repeat of last year, the radio says we blamed our woes on the weather.well whether excuse the pun thats true or not we need some quality batsman, every county has oversea,s players,at cost, and we are been deducted points, now i don,t want to go on about it but were is the cash been spent, most certainley not on the field of play thats for sure, and if it has it ain,t money well spent.

Bowling

Woakes will finish his over, after the rain and tea break.

3:34pm

chrissafc

we have the best bowling attack in the divison in my opinion

Evening session

Players are back out for the final session of the day.

3:32pm

chrissafc

i won't be shocked to see our bowlers once again come up with the goods with the bat

Frankjw

Auldtimer - wise words

chrissafc

this is a tough game but 62/6 can't be defended.

auldtimer

After the Somerset game the Durham lads were world beaters, and now half way through this game, against the reigning champions, they are the lowest of the low. Nobody said this season would be easy, lets see where we are in a few games time before we start chopping heads off.

chrissafc

how much did we get for the emirates sponsorship deal? lancs got 10m

Tea

Just to let you know guys Tea's been taken now. So when we get underway it'll be the final session.

3:29pm

chrissafc

thing is though mark some of our bowlers were averaging over 20. onions was averaging 19.

Griddle

Peppa Pig????

keenasmustard

Also where has all the money gone from the Emirates sponsorship deal which changed the name of the ground?

Mark

To be fair to the batsmen conditions last season were mainly horrific so no surprise averages were poor. Muchall on a hiding to nothing at 3, Brian Lara at his best would probably have struggled in those conditions. However what shouldn't have been ignored is the overall career averages of players- an average of late 20's early30's over a long period of time is not good enough for specialist top order batsmen.

chrissafc

i do know the catering person wrote an apology to members for the lack of info about the catering changes. the letter was in the members lounge last week

keenasmustard

What I want to know is what are the club doing about all this? I think we should be told.

chrissafc

are members books available for next week?

chrissafc

peppa pig was more important on twitter than giving updates on the 2nd xi vs uni game

chrissafc

the club shop issue could have been dealt with so much better.

chrissafc

the food in the members lounge has upset a few people mind.

keenasmustard

The players aren't performing because something doesn't seem right at the club. All the shenanigans with Yvette leaving, then no communication about anything pre-season except Peppa Pig. Who is replacing Harker as Chief Exec? And why did he quit and then suddenly come back on the board? I've already mentioned the farce about the food in the members lounge, Austins and the club shop. WHAT IS GOING ON OUT THERE?

ashleys army

Get this one outta the way n we should have a morale booster next week against yorkshire

Tynevalleyblackcat

To be fair, our batting averages are not helped by playing half our games on a bowlers paradise.

ashleys army

That's true keenas stokes is key player

Tynevalleyblackcat

I can understand the frustration of supporters as our batting last season wasn't really good enough and this season has started in the same way. Mr De Venuto has been a huge miss.

keenasmustard

Our tail starts at the top of the order.

chrissafc

rushworth for example had a batting average of 23, onions 19.63, borthwick 21.11, thorp 11.63. can't keep relying on the lower order to get us out of trouble with bat and ball

ashleys army

We can hardly blame the pitch today when their tail were scoring so freely earlier, true the game isn't over but questions have to be asked of our top order

chrissafc

let's look at some batting averages from last season. jennings 21, smith 19.57, mustard 21.90, stoneman 26.44, benks 26.50, muchall 9.61.

michael shaw

thank god,can it rain until sunday? please.i admire your spirit and in some ways agree, however surley you can,t be happy with what your seeing or listening too, every match now is an ordeal,i,m not the only one,to voice concern,do we not deserve better than this.

alan62

Constructive crtisism is not being negative. I am sure we all want to see the team win but when we can see obvious problems, I think it is OK to express our concerns

chrissafc

62/6 isn't really positive. our batting is a real concern. bowling wise we are the best in the division, i think we got the most bowling points last season?

christoff

If we can avoid the follow on and get a bit more rain we could still get a draw from this. That would be a win and a draw (away to champions) to start the season which would be a great start, the negativity on here is a joke

michael shaw

i like trying to be positve but there,s so much negative batting,if you won title,s for bowling effort durham would be champions every time, but wickets only win matches if you score runs.

Weather

Rain is coming down and the players are coming off. Durham 69-6.

3:03pm

Four

Collingwood crashes another shot to the fence of Clarke. He moves to 20*.

3:00pm

26 overs in

Durham are 62-6 after 26 overs. Collingwood 16* and Borthwick 0*. Partnership 12*.

2:59pm

Griddle

We'll be doing well to take this to a 4th day at this rate, very worrying.

Four

Another boundary from Colly this time off Woakes. He moves to 15*.

2:56pm

marchy22

u cant be serious frank, it is as bad as it seems we r always in thus position with our batting

keenasmustard

Can we forfeit?

Four!

Collingwood crashes a shot to the boundary off the bowling of Clarke. Durham 54-6.

2:52pm

Frankjw

Things are never as bad as they seem. A lot of cricket to be played in this game yet

marchy22

woakes and barker in one partnership r gonna score more than our whole eleven ha ha its a joke

chrissafc

muchall has had plenty chances, only averaged about 9 last season

chrissafc

get richardson in

michael shaw

and why not?he can,t score worse than 0.

michael shaw

sorry should of said last season,so why was,ent something done.

SuperBenks

We all know Muchall will be the one recalled

alan62

can it get any worse?

New Batsman

New man at the crease is Scott Borthwick.

2:48pm

chrissafc

dear me

michael shaw

just said it in the match commentary!only 300 runs scored on five occasions, that not good enough! and from what he could see it was the same squad! is that another pts deduction, this is total dross.

Wicket!

Mustard goes lbw to Woakes for 0. Durham 50-6.

2:46pm

alan62

Difficult to see how we get out of this one. Richardson and Singh surely can not do any worse

After 23 overs

Durham are 49-5 after 23 overs. Collingwood 3* and Mustard 0*. Partnership 1*.

2:43pm

marchy22

over two hundred? is that adding both innings together, this is dire

chrissafc

simply not good enough again from the top order. no excuses

New Batsman

New man at the crease for Durham is Phil Mustard.

2:37pm

Griddle

there's always the 2nd innings

Haslam

Stokes and onions again looking like our two star players. We should still get over 200 but lets see how close we get...

Re: Ed Syers

Ohhh Ed

2:36pm

Ed Syers

Woops, typical.

Ed Syers

One positive is that Stokes has continued his form, fingers crossed I haven't jinxed him and he can get a big score.

Wicket!

Stokes goes for 33 as he's clean bowled by Woakes. Durham 48-5.

2:35pm

Off the mark

Colly is off the mark with two runs.

2:34pm

Change in Bowling

Rikki Clarke replaces Barker at the Pavillion End.

2:30pm

20 overs bowled

Durham are 46-4 after 20 overs. Stokes 33* and Colly 0*. Partnership 8*.

2:30pm

Griddle

Only 300 behind lads......

auldtimer

Just because the top of the order fails doesn't mean everyone else has to follow suit. The lads are pro's, they all have a job to do.

Re: Frankjw

I'm a glass half full kind of guy. I'm sure the lads can dig themselves in and get a decent score on the board.

2:27pm

Frankjw

Bit of wishful thinking in your last post Simon

Mark

Trouble is auldtimer that the middle order can't be expected to do well if they are constantly having to bat against the new ball. Benks, Stokes and Colly are not openers but are all effectively opening the innings!

Frankjw

Dont mind where the runs come from. We can still do o.k.

Four

Stokes plays a lovely drive to the boundary to move to 29*. Durham 42-2.

2:19pm

chrissafc

looks like this will be once again left to the likes of borthwick/thorp to get us runs with the bat.

auldtimer

If we can't rely on the middle order to score big then they shouldn't be in the side, they all have to do their own bit regardless of what anyone else does.

New Batsman

New man at the crease is captain Paul Collingwood.

2:16pm

Wicket!

Jennings goes for 7 caught at slip by Clarke off the bowling of Barker. Durham 38-4.

2:15pm

After 16 overs

Durham are 38-3 after 16 overs. Stokes 25* and Jennings 7*. Partnership 33*.

2:12pm

Four

Stokes crashes a boundary to the fence of the bowling of Woakes. He moves to 25*.

2:11pm

michael shaw

thats true, but a good start always builds confidence,we should, ent have to rely on our middle order batsman, great teams have solid foundations.

auldtimer

It only takes one batsman to get a big score to get us somewhere close.

christoff

well said alan, griddle not so much

alan62

don't care how long it took jennings to get off the mark, he is still there and that is the important thing

Griddle

Can't help but think that once this partnership is broken it'll all collapse very swiftly.

Change in Bowling

Chris Woakes replaces Wright at the City End.

2:01pm

christoff

Come on lads, keep it going!!

Four

Stokes hits another boundary as he drives the ball through Troughton off the bowling of Barker.

1:59pm

Durham

Jennings was on 0 for 34 balls.

1:57pm

Four

Jennings finally gets off the mark with a cut to the boundary. Durham 25-3.

1:55pm

Durham

Starting to see a recovery from Durham after a tricky start. Come on lads!

1:53pm

After 10 overs

Durham are 19-3 after 10 overs, Stokes 13* and Jennings 0*. Partnership 14*.

1:49pm

Four

Another boundary for Stokes as he pulls the ball to long-off. Durham 18-3.

1:47pm

Four!

Stokes hits a cover drive to the boundary off the bowling of Barker. Durham 12-3.

1:42pm

Stokes gets off the mark with a three down the ground. Durham 8-3.

1:38pm

smith must stay in the team for now but he,s not a natural no#3,change the batting order,i still say durham need a quality opening batsman,to share the load young jk,he,s a good batsman, but needs time, colly should be batting at no#3,move smith down to no#6 or even no#7,he,s always likley to get runs, sadley not today, come on durham

New Batsman

New man at the crease for Durham is Ben Stokes.

1:33pm

safcluke

Samaraweera went to Worcester, apparently they are skint aswell due to the floods? He wont have been cheap...

Bowling

Barker to continue from the City End after Lunch.

1:33pm

Afternoon session

The players are back out for the Afternoon session.

1:32pm

Mark

Durham were fined as well as docked points. I agree about other teams almost certainly in breach of the salary cap. Impossible to believe we are the only ones.

michael shaw

look i here what you are saying about the salary cap deduction, but surley durham should have been fined, those points as todays batting performance shows could be priceless, come the end of season,i look around the championship, and i,m sure we "durham" can,t possibly be the only team in breach of this rule, warwickshire,is a prime example, its rules for one and rules for another-i don,t agree with it,it deflate,s our win.

SuperBenks

Totally agree Mark

Mark

Problem is these starts were all too predictable, the FC career averages of Smith and Stoneman show neither of them score consistently or make more than the occasional big score. That's why bringing in an opener or number 3 with proven ability was an absolute must.

safcluke

Not the best start but a long way to go. Lets hope rain helps us out at some point.

christoff

Has everyone forgot we won the first game and in this game we are playing the champions, 5-3 not great I agree but need to chill out abit I reckon

Griddle

This rain - any chance of it lasting a day or two?

marchy22

how can u not panic our batting line up has to be the most frail in division one

chrissafc

the club shop situation was an absolute farce and resulted in redundancies

auldtimer

It's not looking good but we can't panic, lets have a bit faith in the lads.

CollingwoodFTM

For the love of God.

keenasmustard

What a shambles Durham CCC are at the moment. Not just talking about the players either. No one seems to be running the club, no communication, club shop was handled badly, Austins now only open on match days, food in the members lounge has to be done at a certain time, needed £6m for the club to survive and still no sign of a stand being built in time for the Ashes. WHAT IS GOING ON OUT THERE?

auldtimer

Our bowlers must be peed off seeing this, dropped catches and now this, they won't want to be bowling again today.

chrissafc

can't argue with that brian

BrianT

Look at the stats. It's not just Smith.

chrissafc

Richardson must be having a few thoughts to himself at the moment

Weather

Here comes the heavy rain and the players are going off. This could be lunch. Durham 5-3.

12:51pm

keenasmustard

This could be all over by tea.

chrissafc

poor poor batting

marchy22

absolutle joke our batting line up, this will be over today if the rain stays away

Stan Drop

OMG! I pop out for a spot of lunch and...

chrissafc

dear me

Wicket!

Benkenstein goes for 5, caught behind by Ambrose off the bowling of Wright. Durham 5-3.

12:49pm

Four!

Benkenstein fires shot through Patel and to the boundary. That could have been caught.

12:49pm

auldtimer

Re Berb, that's what the club keep telling us but it was mentioned earlier that reports coming from SA say a deal is possible. I hope it's right but I'm not holding my breath.

alan62

Smith stayed in all last season playing like this

Weather

Rain has started here. The clouds are gathering around the ground. May be going off soon.

12:48pm

keenasmustard

Smith wont stay in the side too long if he plays like this.

marchy22

richardson must be fed up up to the back teeth, he was gonna leave to find first team cricket and he must have been told he would get if he stayed and now smuth is back in doing nothing, this is pathetic

alan62

199 runs to the first bonus point

keenasmustard

YAAAY a run. Everybody, we've scored a run.

Berb

Not the start we wanted guys :-(

Durham

Benkenstein gets Durham off the mark. Durham 1-2.

12:44pm

Berb

Hey Auldtimer I thought you said there was no money to sign an overseas Batsman??????

Appeal

Barker and the slips go up looking for lbw against Benkenstein, but the umpire says not out.

12:43pm

keenasmustard

FFS.

Wicket

Smith goes for 0 caught behind by Ambrose off the bowling of Barker. Durham 0-2.

12:42pm

auldtimer

If we lose Onions to England and don't get Rudolph I think it's going to be hard to win games. We should have enough not to lose games but winning is another thing.

auldtimer

3 overs in

Durham are 0-1 after 3 overs. Smith 0* and Jennings 0*.

12:36pm

keenasmustard

Start the car.

New Batsman

New man at the crease for Durham is Will Smith.

12:34pm

Wicket

Rocky says he hasn't hit that. Could have been thigh pad. Umpire gave it out though.

12:33pm

Wicket!

Stoneman goes for 0 caught behind by Ambrose off the bowling of Barker. Durham 0-1.

12:33pm

Griddle

Smith & Benky need some runs......

Bowling

Chris Wright will share the new ball with Barker.

12:29pm

keenasmustard

I reckon Richo would be next in line to play if one of our batters got injured.

Griddle

Where is Richardson in the selection stakes? Thought he was showing a lot of improvement last season.

alan62

Jennings looks a good prospect. We need rocky to convert his primising 20/30s into bigger scores

Bowling

Keith Barker will open the bowling for Warks.

12:25pm

keenasmustard

I'll get me spade.

Mark

Let's hope so but it'll need the top 3 to set a solid platform.

Durham

Mark Stoneman and Keaton Jennings will open the innings for Durham.

12:24pm

Re: keenasmustard

If the lads dig in there's no reason why they can't get over 350 on this pitch.

12:21pm

keenasmustard

I want to panic.

chrissafc

I hope the lads can get stuck in today. Good luck to them

christoff

decent effort that, howay the batters get us 300+

Griddle

Very worried about our batting line up, feel we will struggle to get much past 200, and tomorrow might be backs against the walls......

Re: keenasmustard

Next week I think, but I don't know for sure.

12:16pm

keenasmustard

When does Michelle Cooling, our new media manager arrive at the club?

Mark

There was a story from a SA sports website yesterday claiming Jacques Rudolph is on the verge of agreeing a deal with us from next month. Don't know how accurate it is.

Bowling

Onions finishes with four wickets. 4-86 off 26.2 overs.

12:11pm

chrissafc

well done durham

Tynevalleyblackcat

Half decent morning for us and at least we stopped them getting a 4th batting bonus point Now to find some form with the bat.

alan62

now time for the batesmen to get ther heads down.

Wicket!

Good bowling by Onions as Wright took a swing at the ball and Colly snagged an easy catch at first slip.

12:07pm

Wicket!

Onions strikes and gets the wicket of Wright for 1, caught at slip by Collingwood. Warks 345 all out.

12:06pm

Appeal

Thorp appeals for lbw against Woakes but the umpire says no. Probably sliding down the legside.

12:03pm

morzee

good catch auldtimer, well played

Change in Bowling

Callum Thorp replaces Rushworth at the Pavillion End.

12:00pm

auldtimer

Just as I post about our catching we take a good catch, I'll claim that one.

Bonus Points

Durham now have maximum bowling points from the innings. Get in!

11:59am

New Batsman

New man at the crease is Chris Wright.

11:58am

Wicket

Patel cut that straight to backward point and Smith made a good catch.

11:58am

chrissafc

max bowling points. lets restrict them to below 350

Wicket!

A great catch from Smith gets the wicket of Patel for 5 off the bowling of Onions. Warks 341-9.

11:57am

auldtimer

Our catching in this game has not been up to our usual high standard but I suspect the gusting wind has not helped.

50

50 for Woakes. Made in 85 balls and has included seven fours.

11:52am

105 overs in

Warks are 339-8 after 105 overs. Woakes 49* and Patel 4*. Partnership 10*.

11:51am

Appeal

Onions and the slip are up looking for lbw against Patel but the umpire says not out.

11:48am

BrianT

The "dropped catch" by Scott Borthwick could just as easily have been described as a great stop that saved 4 runs.

Edged!

Woakes edges a ball from Rushworth but it goes wide of slip. Close!

11:42am

New Batsman

New man at the crease for Warks is Jeetan Patel.

11:37am

marchy22

about time shame its 60-70 runs later than it should have been

Wicket

Nice bowling from Onions to get the edge which ends the eighth wicket partnership on 92.

11:37am

keenasmustard

YESSSSS. I'm claiming that one.

Wicket!

Barker is out for 45 caught at slip by Colly of the bowling of Onions. Warks 329-8.

11:36am

marchy22

we have totally let our position the game go, you cant the eighth wicket put on what these two have

Update

Three fours in the 102nd over from Woakes.

11:35am

keenasmustard

These two are going to put on a century partnership.

102 overs bowled

Warks are 327-7 after 102. Woakes 43* and Barker 43*. Partnership 90*.

11:34am

morzee

I think most sensible people are in agreement on this Chris.

chrissafc

perhaps people need to realise we are playing the county champions.

morzee

perhaps this is a really good pitch and we have done well to keep them to this score. dropping catches doesn't help though.

keenasmustard

We need to get 2 wickets in 11 overs or we'll miss out on our 3rd bowling point.

marchy22

we should never have let warks get up to this score, we had the new ball to clean un the last three wickets

99 overs in

Warks are 307-7 after 99 overs. Woakes 25* and Barker 41*. Partnership 70*.

11:23am

marchy22

just in time for when we bat then

Dropped!

Borthwick puts down Woakes at second slip off the bowling of Rushworth

11:20am

Bowling

Chris Rushworth will bowl from the Pavillion End.

11:15am

keenasmustard

Come on lads. 3 early wickets and we're right back in this.

marchy22

300 up

Warks bring up their 300 with the first ball of the day. Warks 300-7.

11:12am

Bowling

Graham Onions will open things up for Durham from the City End.

11:11am

Durham

The players are out on the field, and play should be underway shortly.

11:10am

Start

Play will start at 11:10am.

11:03am

auldtimer

Delayed start?

chrissafc

rushy first player to get 10 wickets this season

BrianT

The salary cap points deduction was fair enough because it's something the club signed up to at the start. Can't believe there are not more clubs still to be caught out. What really riled me was the points deducted last year for slow over rate against Lancs I think. 4 points gone and there did not seem to be an appeal lodged against it. I think Prince went for a walk in between every ball and wasted more time than our bowlers. There got that off my chest with 12 characters remaining.

Weather

It was raining earlier but the weather is ok now. Looks a bit ominous later.

10:49am

Morning

Covers are off, so play should start on time.

10:48am

morzee

I'm about 30minutes from Birmingham and it's really sunny here. means nothing in this country I know

auldtimer

20 mins till kick off and no weather updates, come on Simon, get your finger out.

auldtimer

The forecast says its raining in Birmingham today, is it?

Stan Drop

It wasn't last match Michael, but last season when the management excceded the ECB salary cap. We have now wiped out that deficit and can move forward. Lets hope that it's not a tight finish at the end of the season.

michael shaw

great day lads, however could somebody out there please tell me why durham were deducted 2.5 point from the last match, they took twenty wickets for goodness sake.

Mark

Thanks for updates

Durham

That's it from me today. A report on the day's play should be on the website later. I'll catch you all tomorrow for Day Two.

6:32pm

Durham

A decent day in the field for Durham after winning the toss. They fought hard for seven wickets and will be delighted with their effort after Tea.

6:31pm

morzee

6:04pm

safcluke

Petersen/Compton. Best opening pair in the league.

Mark

I see Alviro Petersen has made a big hundred in his first match for Somerset. He's just the sort of player we could have done with. Still, good job he wasn't playing for them last week!

Mark

Very dangerous, remember him getting a hundred against us a couple of years ago.

safcluke

Barker is a cracking hitter of the ball.

Change in Bowling

Rushwortk takes the new ball from the Pavillion End replacing Smith.

5:26pm

Tynevalleyblackcat

Lets hope the new ball does the trick.

After 81 overs

Bonus Points

Durham have picked up two bonus points today. Get in!

5:08pm

3:44pm

Haslam

Warks are best team in the league and we're away. We are still well in this, 200 for 5 or 6 wickets wouldn't look good for them. We can't blame our bowlers if our batsmen don't perform, still tight i reckon.

Re: keenasmustard

It's Simon again.

3:42pm

Re: Bryn

Sorry Bryn my bad I'll put it up next time.

3:42pm

keenasmustard

Who is the LMC host today?

totally agree morzee, for all we know it could be a batting paradise and we are playing the champions remember nobody said it was going to be easy, we have kept it fairly tight and still look good for a draw I reckon

Chance!

Evans almost runs himself out going for a second but he gets in his ground just.

3:32pm

Griddle

Agreed morzee, but still worrying!

morzee

different pitch different day different opponents

58 overs bowled

Warks are 179-3 after 58 overs. Evans 36* and Troughton 66*. Partnership 68*.

3:30pm

marchy22

runs on the board is more important, build pressure fir the team batting next, our battinf line up is frail enough without walking out to bat having to score 300 say

Griddle

Will Colly & Benky be having a bowl too? Worrying to have used 7 bowlers already, after getting through Somerset barely using the 5th bowler....

christoff

Totally disagree, are we a better bowling side or batting side. I think we all agree better bowling, so makes sense to bowl first imo

Maiden

Thorp sends down his sixth maiden of the innings. His figures are: 14-6-20-0.

3:27pm

marchy22

looka a poor decisipn to bowl

150 up

Warks bring up their 150 in the 51st over. Warks 151-3.

3:01pm

marchy22

our batsmen will crumble with the scoreboard pressure

Mark

Yes, both sides very strong in bowling so a decent first innings will pile the pressure on our top 3. Warwickshire though do seem to have had a lot of luck and could easily be 5 or 6 down.

RE: Griddle

Looks that way although a couple of quick wickets could change that.

2:57pm

After 49 overs

Warks are 142-3 after 49 overs. Troughton 52* and Evans 13*. Partnership 31*.

43 overs in

Warks are 130-3 after 43 overs. Troughton 48* and Evans 7*. Partnership 19*.
