brandonia

Tynevalleyblackcat

New ball due soon as well and we still lead by 39. If those who thought 450 was par were right, then this is a decent effort by us.

roker1973

Thought u would disagree again brian t

via SMS

Brandonia: We need the new ball big time.

via SMS

Ridgeley: alls not lost tho just rememberd I sky + 'steps-on the road again' last neet! Belter!

Frankjw

I don't think Harmy is past it, he is on his way back

poolynorm

What about Barry's Bargains?

via SMS

Brandonia: Maybe as an opponent but he isn't a product of the Brandon Academy. Watch Thomas crack a bliddy 50.

via SMS

Ridgeley: bryn nowt fun about them! Aye norm was thinkin of delves tesco but made a schoolboy error chosing morrisons!

bryn

Ridge I believe the technical term is 'fun size'

via SMS

Brandonia: I hate Peter Trego. He ALWAYS plays well against us. Flipping needle loving beggar!!

BrianT

SG - again I disagree.

Sir gareth

Howells is better than martin emmerson

poolynorm

Should have gone to Delves Ridgey!!

via SMS

Ridgeley: just opened me 4 pack of Cornettos + omg they're the titchy uns! :( shame on u morrisons! You tease!

BrianT

SG - I disagree.

poolynorm

Brando, Did Hindmarch play at the Riggs as a young un.

BrianT

He's no Trevor Bailey or WE Swanson is he? Howells that is.

Sir gareth

Do people agree or disagree that harmy is past it and shouldn't have bn given 4 year contract

2XI latest

2XI: Max Morely picks up a wicket and then Hindmarch gets in on the act - Yorks 165-9

5:11pm

bryn

I'm goin with bdn,sir Gareth is right it's the t20 of messaging! (minus the foam hands+another one bites the dust)

BrianT

Taunton, not a place you want to be bowling whichever side you play for.

Ridgeley: Bryn hearts Puds :) they'll be going on a fishing trip next a la gavin n stacey ;)

bryn

That wasn't in reply to you brands,or bdn as I'm now calling "u"

via SMS

Brandonia: Certainly in the second innings it could have been handy to have a second spinner - perhaps Smith could twirl a few.

bryn

Who said it was?

via SMS

Brandonia: Harmy spraying it about by all accounts.

Chin up!

Come on everybody - all is not lost..have some faith!

4:59pm

Mark

No he's not injured

Tom87

True TVBC, and Sir G I agree I think Borthy would have been a better option in these conditions is he injured?

tomb

TVBC, it good be a cracking match, maybe will go down to the wire second innings

Tynevalleyblackcat

We still have 76 runs to play with, so a first innings lead is not out of the question.

tomb

Plunkett is too expensive in most games and we cant afford to carry someone like that, which is why he was dropped in the first place. I don't get why people keep calling for him to be recalled, he's been out of form for at least three seasons. His Dad was at the last home game as usual watching and we all want him to do well but surely play him in the seconds till he finds some consistency

Tynevalleyblackcat

There's one. Now lets have the other one.

via SMS

Brandonia: Yes! Needed that. Well bowled Harra. 99 partnership. Comms are gutted.

Mark

How many matches has he pplayed though? If he's coming in before Thomas he must be able to bat well.

Sir gareth

This is why both harmy and pudsey shouldn't have played to big a risk

Wicket!

Overton is caught behind off Harrison on 50. Somerset 308-7!

4:52pm

keenasmustard

Overton had a higest score of about 12 before today.

Mark

To be fair ir's not as if we're bowling to two tail-enders. Trego is a real dangerman and Overton is obviously a decent batsman. However the run rate does seem ridiculously high.

Overton 50

Craig Overton reaches fifty. Somerset 305-6.

4:50pm

marchy22

They will have a lead on half an hour let alone by close. Lack of killer instinct when we have a team on the ropes

keenasmustard

I see hope running towards the sea with its backside on fire.

Mark

We need one of the bowlers to do something magical-and do it very quickly.

Somerset 300

Somerset 301-6 in the 62nd over, Overton 48* and Trego 38*.

4:46pm

via SMS

Brandonia: We were awful yesterday after Tea and it seems we are being awful today after Tea. I fancy Somerset will get a lead here.

Tynevalleyblackcat

2 quick wickets and it will all change

Tom87

*this*

Tom87

they will be leading by close at the rate.

via SMS

Brandonia: Seems like the heat is starting to tire our bowlers out a bit. I'd say Sonerset are slight favourites now.

marchy22

54 scored in twenty minutes this is terrible

2XI

2XI: Yorks 144-7 at tea.

4:41pm

via SMS

Whats the injury that Thorp is carrying?

keenasmustard

We're doomed. Everybody panic.

Bowling change

Harrison returns at the Old Pavilion End. Somerset 291-6 after 60 overs.

4:39pm

keenasmustard

Somerset are going to end up with a decent lead.

marchy22

Should have had them bowled out by now

BrianT

Tail end partnership of 70 plus

marchy22

Totally let them off the hook

Latest

Somerset 280-6, trailing our first innings score by 104 runs.

4:34pm

marchy22

We won't get another wicket today

Bowling change

Harmy returns at the River End - Somerset 266-6 after 57 overs.

4:28pm

Latest

Somerset 260-6 after 56 overs...C Overton 23* and Trego 21*.

4:25pm

via SMS

Could do with breaking this partnership. It's still a great wicket for batting.....

marchy22

We need another wicket come on

bryn

Hope I look that good when I'm his age

bryn

I'm just flicking thru around the wicket mag and re puds he's still a handsome devil!

Bowling update

Harrison takes over at the River End for the 54th over. Somerset 238-6.

Final session

The final session of day two begins - Somerset 237-6, Blackwell continues at the Old Pavilion End.

4:12pm

2XI latest

2XI: A fourth wicket for Coughlin - Yorks 106-7!

4:11pm

Mark

He just needs a bit of luck, a wicket straight after tea will do him the world of good.

IAIN6W

Hope LP finds his rhythm in this session.Hopefully the short boundaries are part of the reason for the expensive figs. He is duea break, the last couple of seasons must have been very frustrating for him personally.

Tea

Tea at Taunton - Somerset 237-6. Back shortly!

3:52pm

Mark

Yes, 6.

2XI update

2XI: Yorks 104-6 (2nd inns) after Raine gets a second wicket and Coughlin a third!

3:51pm

chrissafc

6 bonus points so far?

via SMS

Brandonia: I'm quite surprised Colly hasn't had a go, see if he can drop the run rate a bit. Mind I imagine the bowlers are all pretty fresh anyway.

via SMS

they're 300 all out after 60 overs I'll be owa the moon!

via SMS

Brandonia: The boundaries at Taunton are quite small compared to most in County Cricket so that's why the runs are flowing. I'm not worried about it. If

BrianT

Pick pick pick all day long.

Sir gareth

It takes pudsey a few overs to find his perfect rhythm

Update

Somerset 227-6 after 50.2 overs.

Plunkett's back I see....

Sir gareth

We doing ok ths wk hope we cn kp it up the whole game

bryn

prefer long'uns myself but each to their own :)

Sir gareth

No I just try to make my messages shorter bryn m8

Mark

As long as we have a decent first inning lead the economy rates won't really matter.

via SMS

The Somerset bowlers economy rates are better than the Durham bowlers.

bryn

*do you even!

bryn

Sir Gareth this has puzzled me for a while,so you have some keys missing from your keyboard?

Sir gareth

This is great lads kp it up lets win ths game

BrianT

Our efforts yesterday don't seem so bad now!

BrianT

I heard it with my own ears on radio 5. They were laughing when Stokes got out. Never said they were laughing at Stokes who is in fine form.

IAIN6W

I'll whisper it,looks like we are back in biz!!

marchy22

Everyone should remember its perfect batting conditions on a flat wicket on a really small ground. Economies aren't going to be good

Stan Drop

Better and better!

via SMS

Brandonia: GERRRRRINNNN!! Get through the beggars!!

Thorp strikes!

Kieswetter (42) out lbw to Thorp. Somerset 209-6!

3:28pm

Stan Drop

Great stuff. BTW, someone mentioned about home fans laughing at Stokesy's run-out yesterday. I saw it on Sky Sports news last night and it was more like gasps at an amazing bit of fielding. Ben drove hard into the ground and the ball was going way over the bowlers head, but somehow he changed direction leapt up, caught it with one hand and threw the stumps down almost before he landed. Awesome!

chrissafc

kieswetter gone

chrissafc

Response to chrissafc

chrissafc

commentators keep saying it's a batting paradise this pitch

2XI latest

2XI: Yorks 16-2 - Coughlin gets another!

2:35pm

Mark

I was very impressed with Harrison in the one day game against this lot. It's his first match and he's leading the attack! Just as well with Harmy & Liam going for so many runs.

Wicket!

chrissafc

frightening how fast they are scoring runs here

poolynorm

Still in the loft Brando?

Latest

Somerset 130-2, Hildreth 48* and Compton 36*.

2:23pm

tomb

For the people who were demanding that Plunkett should always be in the team, this is why he was left out. Not because he doesnt take wickets, he does, but because he is very expensive. I find it incredible that many on the forum feel he should be an automatic pick ahead of Thorp and Claydon who are both more consistent. I would play him in the one day stuff, not so sure about the four dayers. He is good at getting the tail out with his variations but we have harmy hopefully to do that.

chrissafc

radio praising harrison

via SMS

Brandonia: I'd give Blackwell a go. Take the pace off. Fast looking like a draw this one.

Tom87

Silly shots and run-outs are going to come back to bite us me thinks, no Borthwick either? might have come in usefull.

Update

Somerset 115-2 after 27 overs. Ian Blackwell comes on at the River End.

2:14pm

tomb

Plunkett usually is expensive thats the problem, he has a knack of breaking partnerships even when he doesnt appear to be bowling that well however.

Mark

39 from 24 balls. Need to get a grip quickly.

The team doing anything to celebrate their birthday? Big cake perhaps?

marchy22

Plunkett went for a few. Come on lads keep it tight

via SMS

Brandonia: Tinks is more a Callum Thorp. Swings it both ways and rarely strays. Orton is more like Courtney Walsh.

Bowling change

A second spell now for Jamie Harrison, Somerset 99-2 after 24 overs.

2:02pm

Yeess, great start lets have a magic session!!

Stephen Harmison strikes in the first over after lunch! Barrow out lbw for 25. Somerset 66-2.

1:44pm

tomb

I meant to say hardly featured, my typing is appalling

tomb

I think people are unhappy with him, understandably as he has already featured since being on this bumper contract, for bizarre or undisclosed reasons.

foxbat

Well this is going fairly well so far. A few wickets after lunch and it's game on I'd say.

Lunch

Lunch at Taunton on day two, Somerset 66-1.

Liverpool factor

marchy22

They are the worst side in the division. How they won the title is a mystery

Mark

I think Lancs could get relegated-very poor batting lineup.

christoff

Lancs in trouble again 55-3

christoff

Keeping it nice and tight, one more wicket before lunch and that will be another very good session.

BrianT

Not so much laughter in the crowd this morning.

tomb

Barrow batted really well against us in the CB40. I guess we need to bring Harrison and Wood through as Thorp and Harmison may be on their last or second last seasons.

Latest

Somerset 21-1 afteer 10.1 overs, Compton 3* and Barrow 5*.

12:31pm

tomb

We tend to get openers out cheaply, its the middle and lower order we have been having trouble with. Is Harrison the lad who used to have longer bleached blond hair who strolled around the Riverside on match days? I know he doesnt now

BrianT

Wish I had one. Can you buy them?

Tristan

skill set is everywhere these days

BrianT

Got to get up to date with buzz words. "Harrison has a couple of deliveries in his skill set".

Tristan

@brandy comms team mentioning harrison is swinging the ball well

Tristan

no chance of batting again then for the 2nds. fantastic show yesterday, jennings & wood full of promise

Tristan

Great news for harrison, got to feel for brathwaite though, finished last season with our best bowling average iirc, and now harrison, plunkett, harmison & thorp picked ahead of him.

11:34am

tomb

Disapointing the way we've collapsed after a great start. 2 of the top order batsman being run out. I would think Collingwood needs runs 2nd innings or some wickets or he is in danger of being dropped, he's been back in the side nearly a full season now and has made about three decent scores in that time, if that had been Muchall or Stoneman they would have been out the side

Plunkett four!

Four to Plunkett! Durham 370-9...

Will Smith reckons 450 is par score on this wicket.

Tynevalleyblackcat

Ridgeley: is tom jones gettin married like??

BrianT

I think the Futureheads have organised a joint food/beer festival at Nissan SSC on 14 July. Clashes with Tom Jones and my nephew's wedding. Decisions, decisions.

dalesgirl

I was impressed with Harrison during the CB40 game

Morning all. Interesting days cricket ahead. Can we get up past 400, probabley not but with Liam still there it is possible, then can our bowlers get amongst them, how will returning Harmison and Plunkett and debutant Harrison perform, bring it on!!

Tynevalleyblackcat

All this talk of Ashbrooke has made me think about another of my loves. Is the beer festival going ahead this year? It was second weekend in June last year, but I have heard nothing?

BrianT

And we compain that we've not won the championship for two seasons!

Who was the team scapegoat back in those days I wonder? Scary to think Durham as a first class county may well never have happened, my life would be very different, I would have plenty days leave left.

BrianT

He was probably there.

Ridgeley: yvette re the 1st ever dccc match, can you confirm whether corkballs great grandad complained about the run rate? ;)

Brandonia: Morning all! I thought Vic Marks was pretty insightful and unbiased yesterday. Hopefully we can frustrate them for an hour or so this morning

The report on the BBC website reckons Durham are in charge. The concensus on here is a bit different, that maybe 400 or 450 would be a par score, time will tell.

BrianT

A special day then. We owe them a great deal. I live near Ashbrooke and love watching cricket there. Ground and team have seen better days. 28,000 crowd to see Aussies in 1948.

Happy 130th Birthday Durham CCC!

On 23 May 1882 Durham County Cricket Club was formed in The Three Tuns Hotel, Durham. The first match was played on 12 June as Durham CCC defeated Northumberland by four wickets at Ashbrooke, Sunderland.

Radio commentary team includes Vic Marks, chairman of Somerstet selection committee. Why should he be unbiased? Would you be? Time for a quick 50 from Liam and then show them how to bowl.

Day two

More lovely weather in Taunton this morning! Remember, play starts at the normal time today, 11am.
