More rain and we're now off for the day - join us again tomorrow!
5:28pm
Mark
So that's two players who at least tried to get stuck in.
Mark
the pain to try and help the team. So it was a great effort by him to try and stick in yesterday.

Mbh: still raining.

Umpires out on the pitch.
Mark
Very good idea Brian.
BrianT
Delay the acquisition of the second blotter till tomorrow. Tell the umpires there's a pint waiting for them in the Smiths Arms if they get there by 5:30.
Update
So, the umpires were going to try and re-start at 5.15pm but as the covers started to come off - the rain started again!
5:01pm
via SMS
MBH: started raining again.
Mark
He's playing for the Academy so the rules must be different for first class cricket. Agree about Wellock, the full article is online on TNE site.
via SMS
Brandonia: Thought he was already signed? As for Wellock he's an excellent writer.
BrianT
So that's why he ain't been picked yet! Norm went off last Wednesday to bowl 16 - 3 ball overs. Not sure how long that would take. Hope he's ok.
Mark
sorry keyboard playing up! Durham are keen to sign Keaton Jennings to play for the first team-his mother is from Sunderland so he would qualify once he fulfills the ECB rules by spending a mimimum number of days in the country. He is apparently keen to play first class cricket for us.
FENNERS
Just came down at 4 norman could be scouting for players somewhere
via SMS
Brandonia: Yvette, is there an after-tea price for tomorrow? Might call in after graft........
Mark
Interesting article by Tim Wellock in TNE. Durha
FENNERS
No knitting just on about claude greengrass and how tyrone from corrie was on heartbeat before he joined the street
via SMS
Brandonia: You should be at work Fen. Has anyone seen Norm this week btw? He's MIA.
BrianT
Are they knitting?
FENNERS
Two couples talking about heartbeat under the shelter of bannatynes gym great crack
Mark
Of course not Brian! They are noted for using common sense on all occasions(just in case Peter Willey is reading!)
via SMS
Brandonia: Im not sure batting will be as hard as yesterday. It's slightly chilly in Newton Hall where as yesterday it was very humid and heavy - which m

Brandonia: 400 wins us the game.

Brandonia: ECB and BBC are frozen on 44 overs.......

Brandonia: Sunny spells tomorrow. I'm just surprised we survived 3 balls!!
via SMS
MBH; very dismal weather at the ground.
SpickandSpan
The BBC have it down as cloudy right through till past tea with a bit of rain likely early doors which will pass, so plenty of play and probably a result tomorrow
BrianT
Mark: are you implying that umpires can not use common sense? How very dare you.
Mark
cloudy tomorrow? I don't like the sound of that.
SpickandSpan
It's supposed to be cloudy for most of the morrow so I doubt we're going to see any strokeplay at all during this game, day for bedding in and leaving anything that ain't going to hit the stumps
Mark
I suppose the umpires can't assume what's about to happen but, during th ebreak in innings yesterday afternoon it was obvious the rain was coming yet the fielders were all in place and the umpires waited until the Lancs openers came down the steps before stopping(or not starting) play. With the way things have been going I'm surprised we didn't lose a wicket in the half an over!
Mark
Without wanting to upset anyone at the ground hoping for more play I hope the rest of the day is rained off. We've got nothing to gain from any more play-and a lot to lose(prob about 6 wickets on current form :-) )
stephsafc
Never been so pleased to see rain.
chrissafc
good
Tynevalleyblackcat
Yipee!!
Rain!
Three balls into the Durham second innings and we're off for more rain...
4:18pm
Mark
Only Colly really managed to knuckle down for us, batting can't have been easy though and it could be about to get a whole lot trickier-I haven't been to the ground today but my guess is if we start our 2nd innings this afternoon it will be in the worst batting conditions of the match.
SpickandSpan
Horton's the sort of player who always seems like he should have a better record than he does, has the ability to really knuckle down.
BrianT
In the context of this game that's a good knock from him. Would he have got that many yesterday morning? Maybe not.
Mark
We don't want to be batting here! If the rain comes lets hope it comes before the innings starts because conditions for batting are bound to be lethal!
SpickandSpan
Well played Horton, Huge innings against the bears and again here carrying his bat even though he only made 49
chrissafc
horton got 49 not out
Noz
Just stopped raining here in Newcastle
Tynevalleyblackcat
Start the rain dance lads!!
chrissafc
that's a decent lead that
Lancs all out!
And that is Lancashire all out for 170 with a lead of 68. Onions claims the last wicket.
4:06pm
Tynevalleyblackcat
Torrential rain here now and I am only 5 miles away
FENNERS
I would be over the moon if harmison left
BrianT
Wouldn't even risk one over at the crease tonight if we can avoid it.
Tynevalleyblackcat
Yeah, that would be the ideal scenario Brian, or even better be something for 0 when the rain comes.
via SMS
Brandonia: I'll be over the moon if we get the final wicket then it hammers down!
BrianT
I thought maybe you were in a different time-zone Marchy, getting news in advance. Hope for last wicket before rain and then start again in morning.
Tynevalleyblackcat
And raining here again now.
marchy22
Sorry ninth wicket my apologies
Tynevalleyblackcat
First things first, lets get this last wicket and then worry about knocking off the lead. Does not look like great conditions for batting mind. Very Dark here in Doxy Park.
BrianT
The tenth wicket hasn't started yet!
christoff
YEEESSS nice one Harmy lets get this last one sharpish and start putting some runs on the board!!
marchy22
46 runs for the tenth wicket and about 25 extras given away. Very poor
marchy22
Can't believe we have let them put this many on for the tenth wicket i such a low scoring game
Wicket!
Harmison claims the ninth wicket! Hogg is caught on 33. Lancs 155-9, leading by 53.
3:46pm
Response to chrissafc
Yes, agreed, big thanks to the ground staff. They certainly put in the hours and do an excellent job!
3:42pm
via SMS
Brandonia: I think we'll be 3 or 4 down Marchy.
chrissafc
seems to be raining all over the region, suprised they have got any play in today but fair play to the ground staff
marchy22
We will be a couple of wickets down by the time we get the scores level or maybe more
Mark
Don't think there's any chance of KP being dropped from the test side but if it did happen he'd retire from all cricket apart from the IPL.
Update
Graham Onions opened the Durham attack, with Stephen Harmison bowling at the Lumley End.
3:34pm
via SMS
Brandonia: Horton plays out a maiden.
via SMS
Brandonia: Bunny.
Tynevalleyblackcat
Whees Bowling?
SpickandSpan
Finally we get some play. And with regards to KP, yes of course England should do the 'right thing' and drop a player who averages just shy of 50 in test cricket with a good four or five seasons left in the game. Probably should axe Bell as well.
Tom87
He doesnt like playing ODI's apprently and there is a few scheduled over the summer before t20 wc. England wont get rid of him, there is nobody else like him to replace him.
marchy22
No tea break?
Day two
Day two finally begins! There are 48 overs to be played this session. Lancs resume on 141-8.
3:29pm
chrissafc
*t20
chrissafc
england will get rid of him, you can see it happening. they have said they are dissapointed with the timing of his decision close to the t2 wc
marchy22
I think England will get rid of him altogether and I wouldn't have him at Durham
BrianT
When he first played for England in one dayers he used to make the hair stand up on my neck he was so exciting. Since then, not so good. The selectors should now do the sensible thing and drop him altogether. Would you want him at Durham if he moved his caravan on?
Mark
He said he would have continued to play t20 internationals so-with only ahandful of 50 over games to go-why didn't he just wait until after the t20 world cup and then retire?
chrissafc
KP is only bothered about KP. He couldn't give a stuff about england
Noz
Are we still currently rain free in CLS? Teeming here in Newcastle :(

BrianT
Just got back in and seen the posts about Peterson. Highest honour to play for your country. That's the whole point, he is South African! So where in the ratings does playing for somebody elses country stand?
Update
We're hoping to start at 3.30pm providing there's no further rain.
2:18pm
chrissafc
guess so, i'm down in boro at work, never sunny down here
via SMS
Don't be so hasty chris, sunny in Newton Hall.
chrissafc
Martycricket Covers coming off here in CLS but there's a lot of work to do. Can't see play being possible before 3pm and that's if it doesn't rain again
chrissafc
that sounds to me as if its game over for the day
Update
There will be a pitch inspection at 2.15pm
1:33pm
Latest
Still raining here I am afraid!
1:01pm
Mark
Of course if there is half an hour of play we'll probably getthe 2 wickets in the first over and then be 10-3 when the rain returns!
Mark
Yeah, get the ;ast 2 wickets in tricky conditions and then hope for good weather when we bat...and then ,ore cloud cover for the Lancs second innings! That would be perfect.
via SMS
Brandonia: It could play into our hands if they can get on for even half an hour. Ideally we want to be batting under clear skies tomorrow.
Stan Drop
There will barely be time to mop up before it starts again.
Mark
I'm a couple of miles away from the ground and it does look a bit brighter. It's just about stopped raining but think more is forecast later in the afternoon.
via SMS
Brandonia: Can anyone bring news of brighter weather for C-L-S today?!
dalesgirl
It used to be the highest honour a sportsman could achieve playing for his country. Now its playing where the biggest money is
Tom87
rights he will continue to play in the IPL, stupidly easy money, he's not daft is he.
keenasmustard
He wanted to play T20 cricket but the ECB have a rule that you can't quit one without the other. That's the ECB for you. Stupid.
via SMS
Brandonia: Agree with dg, he's retiring from International Limited Overs to blatantly allow him to commit to the IPL.
dalesgirl
Bet KP still plays in the IPL.
keenasmustard
Off Topic but Kevin Pietersen has just announced his retirment from limited overs cricket.
chrissafc
agreed
marchy22
they seem like the most promising alongside richardson but not sure you can say richardson is a promising youngster
chrissafc
wood, raine and jennings seem very positive in the 2nd XI
marchy22
i was gonna say i thought that durham rated him as one of our best youngsters, i did see him get a golden duck at blaydon last year
chrissafc
checking the scorecards r.singh played for durham 2nds last week down at york

vers - what is it?

Brandonia: Yvette, i know it's a while away but if it rains in the Ashes Test and play is lost, can money be recompensed? I imagine there's a number of o
chrissafc
we must have a fair few players on trial at the moment as i don't recognise some names in that 2nd XI team. not sure is r.singh is still with durham
marchy22
is he still with durham
chrissafc
aye thats him, he's from newcastle
marchy22
thanks for that, jennings seems full of promise and raine seems like a good one too, hopefully will get a chance soon to get down to blaydon and see him play, isnt r singh for eng u19s who played for durham accademy
chrissafc
Raine got 27 and 3 wickets
chrissafc
jennings got 66

must admit i've never heard of some of those bowlers mind.

why is it then brian
BrianT
I wonder why that is?
marchy22
any idea who got runs and wickets? i hope they improve from the 2nd innings but i cant see where the improvement is gonna come from, the confidence of the batters seems shot to pieces
chrissafc
fingers crossed our fortunes with the bat change very soon. i see where you're coming from, I guess we've just got to hope we can improve and get some valuable points on the board
chrissafc
the 2nd xi i believe beat england under 19s yesterday
marchy22
any highlights from yesterday yvette and any scores from the 2nds 20 20 matches this week?
marchy22
everytime we bat you know that wicket icon is just gonna keep popping up regularly and to be honest i feel like it isnt gonna change when we back 2nd time round
Update
Still raining here at Emirates Durham...sorry I can't give you better news!
10:43am
chrissafc
would like to think I was confident but you can't really be confident based on recent scores. hopefully we can put things right in the 2nd innings and move forward.
Response to keenasmustard
I think it was over 60% last time we checked.
10:42am
marchy22
feeling confident of seeing a good durham batting display chris
keenasmustard
Yvette would you please ask Brian Hunt how many overs we have lost to rain this season prior to today's play?
BrianT
Can't do much about the rain so don't worry about it. What you can do is try and acquire another blotter which would speed up the restart on occasions. Whilst it might not affect the result of this game at the rate they're going down, it can affect other games. Or am I missing the point?
chrissafc
aye i'm heading down tomorrow
marchy22
looks like the match will be over tomorrow now instead of today
chrissafc
cant see much happening today
via SMS
Brandonia: I think it's fair to say the start will be delayed......
Stan Drop
Aye, and looks as if it will last at least until mid-afternoon and then start again this evening. No play today i would guess.
Day Two
Rain here at Emirates Durham this morning - oh dear!
