Born in Montego Bay, Jamaica, Breesy played first class cricket for Jamaica, including  a stint as captain, as well as representing the West Indies at international level, before joining Durham in 2004.  With 10 years under his belt at the County he has long been considered an honorary local and a firm favourite with the fans thanks to his renowned big hitting at crucial times in must win, limited overs, matches and of course his expertise in spin.

Gareth has notched up 63 first class appearances, 142 one day caps and over 90 Twenty20 outings for Durham notching up 331 wickets and over 5000 runs, which includes a century against Kent, at Canterbury, in 2008 where Durham claimed their historic first County Championship title.

A proud North East lad, whose commitment and dedication to Durham has been second to none, Muchy worked his way through Durham’s Academy and made his first class debut for the county in 2002.  In his 11 yearcareer with the side Gordon has amassed over 10,700 runs from 336 first team appearances.

Muchy’s contribution to the Durham cause has beenequally important in the 2XI where he shares his expertise and guided the side to an unbeaten run in the 2008 Championship, securing the title.

Most recently Durham has utilized Muchall as a limited overs specialist where their faith in him has been more than justified, having achieved an average of 60 in the one day format and an average of 45 in Twenty20.

The benefit committee will be supporting three charities as part of their fundraising, Macmillan North East, the North East Autism Society and The PCA Benevolent Fund.

Durham County Cricket Club Chief Executive David Harker said, “Gareth and Gordon are fully deserving of this benefit year and I hope our fans show them a great deal of support.  They are superb ambassadors for the Club and have made much valued contributions, on and off the field.  Everyone at Durham CCC wishes them the very best of luck for the year ahead.”

Gareth Breese commented, “It is such an honour to be awarded a benefit year by Durham and to share it with Gordon is very special. I’m really pleased that the Committee will also be making a donation to Macmillan North East at the end of the year as it’s a charity that is very close to my heart.”

Gordon Muchall added, “Both Gareth and I are so proud to have played at Durham during such a momentous time in the Club’s history and to then be awarded a benefit year is a real privilege.  The year’s fundraising will also support the North East Autism Society – it’s great to be able to help raise the profile of a fantastic charity whose work is absolutely vital to so many families in the region.”
