ECB announced the winners of the ECB's annual Business of Cricket Awards (BOCA) which were held at The Cumberland Hotel in London on Thursday 21st November.
The awards, which are designed to celebrate Marketing and PR excellence across domestic and international cricket, were attended by representatives of all 18 First Class Counties and the MCC together with guests from the wider sports industry.
Durham, Northants and Somerset were the biggest winners of the night winning two awards each with Durham’s haul including the prestigious Team of the Year award.
The four-strong judging panel chaired by Karen Earl, former Chairman of Synergy, praised Durham for their creativity, initiative, astute commercial acumen and sheer hard work in delivering a successful season both on and off the field. The panel were particularly impressed by the club’s staging of this summer’s Investec Ashes Test Match against Australia which generated strong attendances throughout.
Five other counties were also honoured at the awards evening which was hosted by former England Women’s cricketer Isa Guha: Derbyshire, Essex, Kent, Nottinghamshire and Surrey.
ECB's Managing Director of Global Events and Marketing Steve Elworthy said: "This season’s awards once again highlighted how strong the bond is between the counties and their fans and what a difference innovative and creative marketing campaigns can make to attendances in our county game – particularly around the domestic t20 competition which saw many sold-out matches.
“As always, our judging panel have had a really tough task and we thank them for bringing their expertise to bear in such a competitive field. We also warmly congratulate our award winners, plus all the entrants for their hard work and creativity over the past year in producing a fantastic summer of cricket in 2013."
Durham CCC’s Chief Operating Officer Richard Dowson said, “We are delighted to have scooped these two prestigious awards. During a hugely successful 2013 season for the Club, with a first Investec Ashes Test and a third Championship win in six years, it is also great for the off field team to receive deserved recognition for all the effort and hard work they put in to those successes. To be Team of the Year 2013 on and off the pitch is a pretty unique achievement"
Durham CCC’s Commercial Director Scott Sherrard said, "Perhaps one of the most exciting things for all of us involved in marketing Durham CCC this year has been the great number of people who have been attracted to visit the ground for the first time, whether for the Investec Ashes or for the thrilling chase for the Championship. We welcome all those fans and more back to Emirates Durham ICG in 2014”
