Durham beat Sussex to end season with fifth Championship win

Michael Richardson 2012

Durham secured their fifth win of the season, beating Sussex within three days at Emirates Durham ICG

A fourth five-fer of the season from Chris Rushworth and a third scalp for Ben Stokes saw Durham dismiss Sussex for 180 in their second innings.

Durham took to the field requiring 165 to secure their fifth win of the season, they lost
Keaton Jennings early on when he was caught by Mike Yardy off Lewis Hatchett for 1.

The hosts were 34-2 when he struck again, bowling Mark Stoneman on 26.  Ben Stokes and Michael Richardson put on a partnership of 67 pushed Durham further towards the win but with the wicket of Stokes, who was caught on the ropes by Adkin, off Panesar for 34, brought with it the rain and a delay in play.

A much deserved fifty for Michael Richardson saw Durham within 27 runs of victory when Dale Benkenstein was bowled by Panesar for 11.

Richardson left the field on 58 after he was trapped lbw by Hatchett bringing Phil Mustard to the crease with Durham requiring 15 runs.

Durham secured their win with 13 overs of the day remaining.

Thanks for your support this season – it has been, as always, much appreciated!
