Durham v Lancashire day one round up

Thorp celebrates

Durham bowled Lancashire out for 313 on day one of their LV= County Championship clash at Emirates Durham ICG and will begin their innings with Michael Di Venuto and Will Smith at the crease in the morning.

Callum Thorp didn’t give the opening pair the chance to flourish when Stephen Moore (4) was caught at third slip by Scott Borthwick with his sixth delivery.

The last ball of the fifth over saw Graham Onions strike, with Karl Brown caught on 4 by Di Venuto in the slips with Lancashire reduced to 9-2.

Lancashire weren’t able to score quickly and has to bide their time to slowly start building on their total.

It was just before lunch when Durham claimed their third wicket of the session, with Mark Chilton caught at second slip by Michael Di Venuto off the final delivery of Dale Benkenstein’s third over.

At lunch Lancashire were 86-3.

Ben Stokes bowled Paul Horton six short of his hundred breaking the fifty plus partnership between him and Steven Croft.

A great catch by Di Venuto, which he held on to with a second attempt, saw Steven Croft out to Blackwell on 38, leaving Lancashire 191-5 in the 61st over.

A four off the short boundary by Smith saw Lancashire claim their first batting point and the visitors were 201-5 at tea.

Durham claimed their second bowling bonus point when Steven Cross was stumped off Blackwell for 15 in the third over after the break.

A change in the bowling attack saw Scott Borthwick come on at the Lumley End for the 74th over, bringing immediate results after Tom Smith (32) was trapped lbw by the third delivery and Lancashire were 225-7.

Mitchell Claydon got in on the act before the close, picking up the wicket of Glenn Chapple, who cut to Scott Borthwick at third man, four short of his fifty.

He struck again with three overs to go when Procter was caught behind on 45 and Blackwell finished the visitors off, bowling Kyle Hogg (1) with Lancashire posting a first innings total of 313.

Durham will start tomorrow with Michael Di Venuto and Will Smith at the crease.
