After the massive bowling effort Durham bowled Sussex out for 194, 98 behind their first innings total, and by the close of play had extended their lead to 264, with Benkenstein and Richardson set to resume on day three.

Callum Thorp picked up the first wicket on day two (Sussex 52-2) with Wells edging the ball to Gordon Muchall at first slip.
Chris Nash got himself in early on and struck fifty from 77 balls, including four boundaries and two sixes, he added 15 more to his total but was then caught behind off Ruel Brathwaite as the Sussex total stood at 108-3.  

Callum Thorp swapped ends and picked up two wickets in the 33rd over, with his second and fourth delivery of the first over in the spell, without Sussex adding to their total, first up, Gatting out lbw for 27, then Ben Brown was caught by Scott Borthwick at third slip.     

A bowling change saw Ian Blackwell come on for the final over before lunch and he struck with his second delivery, sending Murray Goodwin (2) back to the pavilion and Sussex 119-6 at lunch.  

Brathwaite picked up his second wicket of the innings with the final delivery of his second over after lunch when Rana Naved was bowled for just 1 leaving the visitors 139-7.  

Sussex were 147-8 after the last  ball of the 49th over, an attempted hook from Anyon off a Claydon delivery saw him caught behind for 7.  

Scott Borthwick claimed the ninth wicket, when Khan edged the ball to Di Venuto in the slips for 9. 
The final wicket fell with the Sussex total 98 behind Durham’s first innings score when Hodd (67), whose fifty came off 88 balls and included six fours, was caught by Benkenstein off Blackwell. 

Michael Di Venuto (2) was dismissed early on when he was caught at mid wicket by Brown off Khan with Durham one wicket down with just six on the board.

Smith couldn’t repeat the innings of the first day and was dismissed in James Anyon’s first over when he was caught behind on 8.

Durham were 47-3 when Gordon Muchall was caught behind off Rana Naved for 10.  Ben Stokes dug in and added 26 before he was trapped lbw by Panesar with the Durham total at 83-4.

Some big hitting from Ian Blackwell saw him reach his fifty in 44 balls which included three sixes and a boundary in two overs.  He was caught at long leg by Brown on 51 off the bowling Anyon.  

Michael Richardson joined Dale Benkenstein (24*) in the middle with eight overs remaining of the session and the pair ploughed on until the close of play having established a lead of 264 with 166-5 on the board.
