Double win for Dynamos as Dragons lose by 59 runs

CB40 openers

The Dynamos top order’s superb batting efforts continued in the second of the weekends Clydesdale Bank 40 fixture, claiming a 59 run victory over Welsh Dragons, having posted 307 in their innings.

A 157 run opening stand saw Phil Mustard and Mark Stoneman continue where they left off from the previous day, putting the Dynamos in a strong position for a high three figure total.

Mustard scored his second century in two days, from just 55 deliveries, before he was
bowled by Andrew Salter on 107 in the 18th over.

Not to be outdone, Mark Stoneman, already with a fifty under his belt from Saturday’s game, went one better, scoring a run a ball hundred as the Dynamos maintained their run rate above 7.

Gordon Muchall celebrated the birth of his second son this weekend with a score of 75 and with Stoneman guided Durham past the three hundred mark.

Muchall was caught off the last ball of the innings by Dean Cosker off the bowling of Graham Wagg leaving Stoneman unbeaten on 112.

Defending 307, the Dynamos broke the opening partnership in the fourth over when Ben Stokes caught Gareth Rees (17) off  Chris Rushworth.

Forty runs were added to the total in a flurry before Mark Wood struck with his fourth ball, bowling Chris Cooke on 19.  Mitchell Claydon picked up the third scalp the following over with Glamorgan 90-3 after Paul Collingwood caught Stewart Walters (9).

Mark Wallace became the third centurion of the match before he was caught by Collingwood off Rushworth for 105 as the Dragons reached 207 in the 28th over.

The visitors were Marcus North (59) and Graham Wagg (1) were dismissed by Gareth Breese within an over of each other leaving Glamorgan 233-6.

Wood claimed two catches within four balls, catching Andrew Salter (3) off Scott Borthwick and Ben Wright (23) off Breese.

Breese claimed his fourth wicket, bowling Dean Cosker second ball, bringing Simon Jones to the crease, who in the end didn’t face a ball due to Borthwick claiming the final scalp when John Glover was stumped by Phil Mustard.
