Chris Rushworth has taken 26 championship wickets this season
Chris Rushworth told durhamccc.co.uk he was "ecstatic" after he helped Durham record a long-awaited first LV=County Championship win of the season.
The 27 year old took two wickets on the penultimate evening before book-ending the final day's play with two more crucial breakthroughs to finish with figures of 4-45.
With just his 10th ball of the morning, Rushworth got rid of the dangerous debutant Usman Khawaja before later holding his nerve with the second new ball to take the final wicket on day four.
After rain had scuppered victory charges in recent games with Nottinghamshire and Middlesex, a first win of the campaign was met with delight by the Sunderland-born seamer.
"I'm ecstatic. Obviously we think it's been coming for a long time but the last few games we've been done by the weather" said Rushworth.
"We've been playing some good cricket and I think the stats show we've lost something like 600 overs to the weather"
"It's nice to finally get off the mark with a win like that, the dressing room is a happy place at the minute"
A fifth wicket partnership of 129 between Jos Buttler (100*) and Steven Croft (72) threatened to take the game away from Durham during the afternoon.
But when Ben Stokes (2-99) had Croft caught on the square leg boundary, Rushworth and John Hastings (3-58) helped to finish off the innings.
"We always know here there's going to be one big partnership in a game, you've just got to stick in through the big partnership and wait for that wicket to come"
"We know if we build pressure from both ends, we generally find a wicket" added Rushworth.
An 87 wicket haul saw the former academy graduate crowned the club's 'Bowler Of The Year' last season, and Rushworth leads the way this time around too.
His current total stands at 32 victims from 13 championship and T20 games, although according to his captain, he is unlucky not to have had quite a few more.
"I feel as though I'm bowling quite nicely at the minute and to pick up a few wickets and contribute to a win is always nice, so I'm over the moon"
"Hopefully that's us on a roll now and we can get a few more in the bag"
