John Hastings took 14 T20 wickets for Durham Jets this season
Durham overseas player John Hastings has been selected by Chennai Super Kings to play in the 2014 Champions League Twenty20 tournament.
The 28-year-old will travel to India for the competition, which gets underway on the 13th of September and Hastings will therefore miss Durham's final two LV=County Championship games against Northamptonshire and Warwickshire.
Hastings has been in fine form since arriving in England, taking 53 wickets in 22 matches across all competitions. The Australian International has also hit five half-centuries, including a new Durham record for the fastest T20 fifty in the club's history during the game with Northamptonshire Steelbacks.
Chennai, who just missed out on reaching the final of this year's IPL tournament, have been drawn in Group A of the Champions League. They will compete against Kolkata Knight Riders, Perth Scorchers and Dolphins plus one qualifier from Lahore Lions, Mumbai Indians, Northern Knights and Southern Express.
The final will take place in Bangalore on the 4th of October.
Head Coach Jon Lewis said: "It's obviously a blow to lose John for the final two games as he's been a great asset to us"
"However, it's a fantastic opportunity for him and we really hope he does well in the tournament"
"We will look to see if we are able to bring in a replacement for the last two matches but if not, we're confident that the players we have can get the positive results we need"
