Muchall continues form with century

After a solid start the season Gordon Muchall went on to score his first century of 2011 as part of a record breaking partnership with Ian Blackwell on day one of Durham’s LV= County Championship clash against Worcester. Durhamccc.co.uk caught up with him at the close of play.

“It’s pleasing to have finally got that hundred after the few fifties I’ve scored already this season, it gives you some respite when competition for places is so high”, said Muchall.

“The ball was nipping around a bit when I first went out there this morning so it was quite hard work and when the sun came out it, it wasn’t too bad but then when the sun went behind the clouds it started nipping about again.

“We won the toss and decided to bat and then the overhead conditions came over and it started drizzling and by the time the sun came out we were three down.

“Me and Stokesy had a bit of a misunderstanding in the middle so it was important that I went on to score runs.   It was a good cricket wicket, it went through periods during the day where it was bowler friendly, then batting friendly.
“We [me and Blackwell] knew when we got in their today we needed to get a decent partnership.  We didn’t know about the record partnership but now we do we’ll be aiming for that 315 trying to knock off the runs to move ourselves further up that list!

“Hopefully me and Blackie can push forward, see off the new ball and hopefully if we can get a big enough total we can bowl them out twice”
