Durhamccc.co.uk caught up with skipper Phil Mustard at the close of play on day one of the side’s table topping clash against Lancashire, both sides finish the first day with three bonus points.
“We looked at the pitch this morning and it had a bit of green on it and it looked like it might have a bit of bounce and carry which it did in the first hour. I think when we had then 9-2 we thought they’d be lucky to get 200 but I still think we’re in a decent position and if we come in tomorrow and bat we can hopefully get past their score and post a good total.
“On the first day there is always a little bit in the wicket, it flattens out a bit on the second and third day, and if it spins a little on the last day that could be good for us.
“It’s great when you’ve got so many bowling options, that’s why we’re such a good side at the minute. I don’t know how often it happens where you bowl seven bowlers and they all get a wicket, it shows a great team performance.
"We bowled well early on in the day, then took our foot off the gas a bit and had a bit of a dodgy session with the new ball but we pulled it back towards the end.
“I think it’s worked out well for us tonight, we can come back tomorrow preparing to bat for the whole day. Our first challenge tomorrow is getting through the first hour without too much damage.”
