Notts v Durham day one round up

Paul Collingwood 2012

Durham CCC were 85-4 at the close of play after rain prevented any play after lunch.

After losing the toss and being put into bat Durham lost Will Smith (3), who was bowled by Luke Fletcher with the total at 14.

As the light worsened the floodlights came into play, with Trent Bridge one of two grounds that have floodlights available, if required, for use at all home games.

Keaton Jennings (2) became Ben Phillips’ first wicket of the innings when he was trapped lbw, bringing Phil Mustard to the middle, who following his two hundreds in the CB40 at the weekend, was promoted up the order.

The tiniest of snicks saw Mustard caught behind off Carter for 9 with Durham 48-3 in the 20th over.  Mark Stoneman was just four runs short of his half century when he too was caught behind, this time off Fletcher.

At lunch Durham were 85-4 with Dale Benkenstein and Paul Collingwood at the crease.  Rain during the lunch break, and downpours all afternoon prevented any further play.

Geoff Cook spoke to Durhamccc.co.uk at the close of play, “To lose four wicket in the session was disappointing, there  wasn’t too much in the wicket.  We thought it would be a little bit quicker and bouncier than it was. The feel of the pitch is really hard but the behaviour belied that.  But, we have two experienced batsmen in Paul and Dale at the crease so hopefully we can pull that back tomorrow.”
