Rushworth visits Red Rose primary school
Durham County Cricket Club player Chris Rushworth visited Red Rose Primary School this week (Monday 8th March), as part of the Durham County Cricket Foundation Outreach programme in partnership with Esh Charitable Trust.
The Outreach programme aims to support Literacy, ICT, Self Esteem and Cricket Skills for year groups 4, 5 and 6. There are 24 schools taking part in the programme.
Each School gets 8 hours of combined sessions of cricket coaching and a literacy based media project in the school run by ECB qualified community coaches and Riverside Education Staff.
Following the combined sessions all the schools get to visit Durham Cricket Club for half a day involving a behind the scenes tour of the ground, including the dressing rooms. Community Coaches then run a coaching session in our indoor school cricket facilities before the children get to put their new literacy based media skills to the test.
The Outreach programme concludes with all schools taking part in a celebration event during a Durham Dynamos Friends Provident t20 match. Schools will compete in a Bowl Out Cup event during the interval, get pictures with players on the pitch and get certificates presented.
The Durham Cricket Foundation aims to use the power of professional sport to provide inspiration to young people in the local community.
Rushworth said “This is a great way to use the power of sport to encourage children to take an active role in both sport and learning. If Durham players can help promote both grassroots sport and education that can only be a good thing for the local community. ”
