Durham’s match with Derbyshire Falcons was abandoned due to heavy rain after just one innings of the t20 encounter. 

The Dynamos won the toss and bowled first with an unchanged line-up from the team that played the Falcons on Friday. 

New Zealand International Martin Guptill got the visitors off to a flying start taking four boundaries off Chris Rushworth’s first over before Graham Onions struck in the second removing his opening partner Wes Durston for one. 

The Kiwi was joined by West Indian batsman Chesney Hughes and the pair put on 49 for the second wicket before Guptill was caught and bowled by Liam Plunkett for 44. 

The home side had began to peg the Falcons back but the arrival of Wayne Madsen increased the visitors run rate and he along with Hughes racked 60 together taking them to 126. 

However Gareth Breese broke the partnership before the pair could get away from the Dynamos with the wicket of Hughes (48) who was caught well on the boundary by Muchall. 

Madsen then began to play more shots to up the visitors run rate taking them over the 150 and him to his 50 before he (54) and former Durham-man Garry Park (4) were removed in the 19th over by Paul Collingwood. 

Ross Whiteley and Jonathan Clare managed to get eight runs off Mitchell Claydon’s last over to haul the Falcons to a respectable 169-5 before the rains came. 

Both teams were awarded one point each due to the no result. The outcome leaves Durham 6th in the Northern Group of the Friend sLife t20 with 11 games still to play. 

The Dynamos next game is against the Nottinghamshire Outlaws on Tuesday 14th June at Emirates Durham ICG at 5:30pm. Tickets can be purchased in advance priced at £13 for adults and £5 for juniors or £17.50 for adults and £6 for juniors on the day.
