Durham made it two wins out of two in this season’s second eleven trophy with a narrow victory over the Unicorns at Burnopfield.
A half-century from Dylan Budge helped Alastair Maiden’s side post 247-8 from their 50 overs, having been put into bat by visiting captain Vishal Tripathi.
Opening pair Phil Mustard (15) and Calum MacLeod (28) got starts, with all of Durham’s top eight batsmen reaching double figures.
Irish all-rounder Barry McCarthy, who made a brisk unbeaten 33 in Durham’s innings, then took 4-50 from nine overs as the Unicorns were bowled out 18 runs short of their target.
Josh Bousfield (2-38) grabbed the key wicket of Lee Thomason, who was well set on 58, and the economical Ryan Buckley (1-14 from five overs) had Richard Moore stumped by Mustard for 47.
After beating Nottinghamshire in this competition back in May, the seconds have made a 100% start to their trophy campaign, with a clash against Northamptonshire next on the agenda in July.
Before then, Durham play the Unicorns again in two T20 games on Wednesday at Burnopfield, with the first match due to start at 11.30am.
