Show Racism the Red Card 2012
Nearly 100 young people from Lumley Junior School and Chester le Street C of E Junior School visited Emiartes Durham ICG for a Show Racism the Red Card anti-racism event earlier this week
During the morning, the young people took part in activities delivered by Show Racism the Red Card’s education team; Lizz Bennett and Laura Hagan. Durham County Cricket Foundations “Learning Beyond the Boundary” education team was also on hand to take the participants on a behind the scenes tour of the ground before recording their own cricket media report in the Media Centre’s Sky Sports Studio.
After a quick lunch break everyone got back together for Show Racism the Red Card’s educational film which was followed by a special question and answer session, in which both schools actively took part.
The young people quizzed Show Racism the Red Card coaches and former professional footballers; Trevor Benjamin, John Anderson, Gary Bennett and Olivier Bernard along with two current Durham County Cricket Club stars Ruel Brathwaite and Michael Richardson who were on hand to field questions.
The questions posed to the panel clearly showed how much the young people had thought about some of the issues they heard about during the morning and were keen to hear about the panels own experiences of racism not just in their sporting careers but in their daily lives. There were a number of special prizes on offer for the best questions to the panel with one young person taking away a family pass to any Durham CCC home domestic fixture in the 2012 season.
Durham County Cricket Foundation would like to take this opportunity to thank Show Racism the Red Card for a fantastic day at Emirates Durham ICG.
