Ben Stokes took career best match figures of 10-121 in the recent win over Sussex
Durham all-rounder Ben Stokes has been recalled to the England squad for the 1st Investec Test against India.
The 23-year-old is named in a 13-man squad for the match, which begins on Wednesday 9 July at Trent Bridge.
Stokes missed out on selection for the recent series with Sri Lanka, which the tourists won 1-0 thanks to a dramatic victory in the second match at Headingley.
Whilst that game was taking place, Stokes took career-best match figures of 10-121 to help Durham thrash Sussex in the LV=County Championship.
Stokes also collected two wickets and later smashed an unbeaten 49 from just 25 balls in the NatWest T20 Blast victory over Derbyshire Falcons on Sunday.
The powerful left-hander was selected in the Durham Jets squad for tonight's game with Yorkshire Vikings, but he has now been withdrawn.
National selector, James Whitaker, said: “The selectors would like to congratulate all the players selected in the squad for the 1st Investec Test against India and in particular Ben Stokes who returns to the squad having worked hard to regain his fitness following an injury this winter.
“This series against India will no doubt be a tough one and the selectors would like to wish Peter Moores, Alastair Cook, the coaches and players all the best for a good performance next week at Trent Bridge.”
