Mark Stoneman in one-day action last season
Mark Stoneman has been named as Durham's new limited-overs captain
Durham CCC is delighted to announce that Mark Stoneman has accepted the role of limited-overs captain for the 2014 season. Stoneman succeeds Dale Benkenstein, and will lead the side in the Natwest T20 Blast competition and the Royal London One-Day Cup. Paul Collingwood remains as Durham captain for the upcoming LV=County Championship campaign.
Stoneman, 26, has enjoyed great success in limited overs cricket, averaging over 40 with the bat in List A matches since making his debut against Bangladesh A in 2008. The Newcastle born left-hander also played a key role in securing the LV=County Championship title last season as he amassed over 1,000 runs during the summer.
Stoneman said "It is a great honour to captain Durham and a proud day for my family. I got a taste for it on a few occasions last season when Dale Benkenstein and Paul Collingwood were injured, and I enjoyed every second of it. I've learnt a lot from those guys in particular and I can't wait to get started"
Durham Head Coach Jon Lewis added "This is a fitting reward for Mark and the progress he has made over the last few years. He has really improved his consistency with the bat and is a popular figure in the dressing room. He is a local lad with the best years of his career still ahead of him, and we are confident he'll make a real success of the role."
