A strong second team were given a stern test by a North Yorkshire South Durham League side but emerged with a five wicket victory.
The NYSD XI elected to bat first on a beautiful evening in Hartlepool and raced to 90-0 inside nine overs, with Stokesley opener Andrew Weighell well set on 60.
Saeed Bin Nasir edged trialist George Harding (1-17) behind to fall for 24 and Ryan Pringle (2-19) accounted for Weighell, before Usman Arshad (2-33) grabbed two late wickets.
Set 177 to win, Durham’s opening duo of Graham Clark (54) and Phil Mustard (27) put on 81 for the first wicket in nine overs.
Clark, who made his first team debut in the recent NatWest T20 Blast win over Derbyshire Falcons, hit six fours and two sixes in his 37-ball stay at the crease although when he and Pringle fell in quick succession, Neil Killeen’s side still had work to do.
But Darlington-born youngster Adam Hickey blasted a half-century from only 26 balls and Durham reached their victory target with a ball to spare.
