Durham Dynamos lost by 12 runs to Yorkshire despite a 47 ball 76 from Herschelle Gibbs at Emirates Durham ICG on Friday.

Durham won the toss and elected to field first with former Dynamo David Miller (74), Joe Root (41) and  Adam Lyth (30) making big contributions to Yorkshire’s total of 171-6 from their 20 overs.  Ben Stokes was the pick of the attack, taking two wickets in his two overs.

In response the Dynamos lost Phil Mustard early but Herschelle Gibbs tee-ed off to boost the run rate to past ten an over but after he was dismissed in the thirteenth over the home side couldn’t build the momentum to get them over the line.

At the close of play Durhamccc.co.uk spoke to Herschelle Gibbs, who said, “It was a close game but that’s the joy of t20, I think in the last couple of their overs they just got away from us, David Miller obviously took it away from us, I think the bowlers pulled it back with about three overs of their innings to go but the big blows from Miller sealed their win. I think one or two little partnerships cost us in the end, chasing 170-odd, you just need two partnerships just to give you a chance.

“It’s not every day you score 70 and are on the losing side, but that’s t20.  There are fine margins of error in this format – the wicket was covered for the whole day yesterday because of the rain and it played a lot better than most of us thought.

“I don’t think you can look into it too much, I think we’re a good team , we can all improve and we just need the top five to get a few partnerships and then there’s no reason we can’t go deep in this tournament. It’s not every day in these conditions you can chase down 170 and we almost did it.”
