Gordon Muchall proved that he still has a lot to offer as a four-day cricketer during 2014.
The experienced middle-order batsman had to wait until mid-May for his first LV=County Championship appearance of the season, but some impressive scores ensured he retained his place for the rest of the summer.
A 12th first class century arrived at Trent Bridge in May, as Muchall struck a fluent unbeaten 158. He dominated the hosts' attack, which included Stuart Broad and Peter Siddle, and seemed set for a second double century of his career until heavy rain intervened.
The Newcastle-born star provided a number of memorable moments during the season, including a stunning diving catch in the NatWest T20 Blast match with Lancashire Lightning. He also featured 11 times during Durham's successful Royal London One-Day Cup campaign.
Muchall made his first class debut in 2002 and subsequently developed a reputation as a reliable performer who possesses the ability to time a ball beautifully.
He averaged over 45 in both 40 over and T20 cricket during 2013 and signed a two-year contract extension at Emirates Durham ICG.
Awarded a joint benefit year for 2014, Muchall was rightly recognised for over a decade of service at his home county.
