Health Programme
With the increased importance of physical health in the region, Durham County Cricket Foundation and Northumbrian Water has implemented several health programmes that have the aim of increasing awareness of health issues and giving people the opportunity and motivation to take part in physical activity.

The Foundations health programmes are not just focused on cricket with an extremely successful Health-Dance programme in place. Working in association with local performing arts specialist organisation Tin Arts the Foundation developed the “Winning Moves” programme. During 2010 nearly 500 young people and 18 schools took part in dance sessions building up to performances ahead of Durham’s home Friends Provident t20 family day at Emirates Durham ICG. Participants also met Durham players during the programme had the opportunity to question them about professional sport and leading a healthy lifestyle.
The Foundation also ran a summer sports-dance camp at Emirates Durham ICG, where participants worked on a dance routine but also had the opportunity to take part in other sports including; table tennis, badminton, tag-rugby and volleyball. All participants returned to perform the dance routine ahead of the England v Pakistan ODI at Emirates Durham ICG.
Durham County Cricket Foundation are also delighted to announce a new partnership with NHS County Durham, who in conjunction with our Foundation will be running a Get Active, Get Cycling programme, with the aim of giving more families in the region the opportunity and motivation to take part in physical activity through family cycling days at several locations in the area
Nick Whitley (Get Active, Get Cycling) and Durham players Jamie Harrison and Michael Richardson
With the continued support of Northumbrian Water the Foundation plans to expand this programme in 2011, with a cheerleading programme leading up to a performance ahead of a home Durham Friends Provident t20 fixture. Durham County Cricket Foundation is also planning to run an adult health programme around the region, raising the awareness of health issues and giving many more the opportunity and motivation to take part in physical activity.
