Durham First Class Debut - August 2015 vs Yorkshire (A)
After a breakthrough year in 2015, Jack Burnham underlined his burgeoning potential with a strong domestic season as he secured a regular berth in the First XI batting order.
His maiden first-class century against Surrey was little surprise to Durham’s supporters, who had seen the rise of a precocious talent during the previous season.
And Burnham’s heart-warming acknowledgement of his Mum’s selfless contribution towards his career caught the attention of cricket fans across the world following the innings of 135 at The Oval.
Trusted with the number four position by Jon Lewis, the 20-year-old added three half-centuries to back up the gritty debut effort against Yorkshire in 2015, where he scored 50 against one of the strongest bowling attacks in the country.
In between the 2015/16 seasons, Burnham also notched 420 runs to become the leading run-scorer at the ICC under-19 World Cup – the highest total in history by an Englishman.
When you throw in the experiences of 2016, including an appearance at Finals Day, the right-hander heads into 2017 with the chance to kick on and back up an undoubted potential with a weight of First XI runs.
