Durham's much-admired academy has continued to go from strength to strength under the watchful eye of John Windows.
Born in Newcastle, Windows was a regular with Northumberland in the Minor Counties Championship and hit an unbeaten half-century against Staffordshire in the 2001 Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy. An accomplished all-rounder, he still occasionally plays for Durham Academy in the challenging North East Premier League.
A glance at the record books will show that Windows was perhaps unfortunate not to play more games for Durham's 2nd XI. On his one and only Championship appearance, he took 3-26 and scored 55 not out against Nottinghamshire.
Supporters got another brief glimpse of Windows in 2003 when he came on to field for England against Zimbabwe during the inaugural test match at Chester-le-Street.
