Punjab Kings will enter the IPL 2026 season as one of the strongest contenders to win this title. Under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, PBKS finished at the top of the league table and reached the final. However, they lost the title to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru by just six runs. That narrow defeat has only increased the team’s hunger to win this year.

Punjab Kings retained most of their players and are likely to field the same XI as in the previous season.  The opening pair of Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh gives the team explosive starts, while captain Shreyas Iyer provides stability in the middle order. The bowling attack will include Arshdeep Singh, Marco Jansen, and Yuzvendra Chahal handling the spin department.

With a balanced squad and confidence from their strong 2025 campaign, Punjab Kings will aim to finally lift their first IPL trophy. Let’s take a look at the players who are likely to feature in PBKS’s playing XI.

Priyansh Arya, a powerful left-handed batter, had a dream debut season in IPL 2025. He scored 475 runs at a strike rate of 179.24, the highest runs by an uncapped Indian player in a debut IPL season.

Alongside him, Prabhsimran Singh will open the innings, having developed into a dependable attacking opener. His 2025 edition was most prolific as he scored 549 runs in 17 matches at an average of 32.29.

At number three, captain Shreyas Iyer will anchor the batting order. He enjoyed an exceptional IPL 2025 season, scoring 604 runs at an average of 50.33 and a strike rate of 175.07. Across 133 IPL matches, Iyer has scored 3731 runs at an average of 34.23.

PBKS Middle Order: Stoinis, Wadhera, Shashank, and Jansen

Punjab Kings have the best middle order capable of handling any match situation. Marcus Stoinis, the powerful Australian all-rounder, brings serious firepower to the lineup. In his 109 IPL matches, he scored 2026 runs at a strike rate of 144.71.

In 5th place, Nehal Wadhera has quietly established himself as a reliable young middle-order batter. During his breakout season in IPL 2025 for PBKS, he scored 369 runs in 16 matches at an average of 30.75, with 21 sixes.

At number seven, there will be PBKS’s most reliable batter, Shashank Singh, who will have the responsibility to finish the match. Over two seasons with PBKS, he has scored 704 runs in 31 matches at an impressive average of 47.13.

With these players, PBKS has one of the best batting units, capable of chasing any score.

Marco JansenLeft-Arm Fast-Medium

Punjab Kings have built their bowling attack around two key strengths: Arshdeep Singh’s pace and Yuzvendra Chahal’s leg spin.

Arshdeep Singh will lead the pace attack and be one of PBKS’s most important players. In 82 IPL matches, he has taken 97 wickets at an average of 26.49. His wicket tally has improved consistently over the years: 17 in 2023, 19 in 2024, and 21 in 2025, with 2025 his best season so far.

Lockie Ferguson and Marco Jansen will be the 2nd and 3rd choice as a pacer, as both add raw pace to the attack. The New Zealand fast bowler regularly bowls above 145 km/h and can trouble batters with his sharp, while Marco Jansen can create trouble for any batter with his precious line and short balls.

IPL’s most successful bowler, Yuzvendra Chahal, will take charge of the spin department. In 174 IPL matches, he has taken 221 wickets at an average of 22.77, with a best bowling figure of 5/40. He also won the Purple Cap in 2022 with 27 wickets while helping the Rajasthan Royals reach the final.

Meanwhile, Harpreet Brar offers a reliable left-arm spin option in the middle overs, giving captain Shreyas Iyer useful variety in the bowling lineup.

Impact Players

Vyshak Vijaykumar is likely to be PBKS’s main bowling impact option. His ability to generate pace and swing with the new ball makes him a strong choice when the team needs an extra fast bowler in helpful conditions.

On the batting side, Musheer Khan could serve as the primary impact player. The young Mumbai left-hander has impressed in domestic cricket with his calm temperament and solid technique. His performances suggest he has the potential to make a big impact in the IPL.

Yash Thakur will be the 3rd impact player option. The right-arm fast-medium bowler has played 21 IPL matches in which he has taken 25 wickets.
