India Under-19 World Cup sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi is likely to participate in the prestigious DY Patil T20 tournament starting February 23 in Mumbai, with advanced talks underway between the player’s representatives and tournament organizers.
The 14-year-old left-hander, who recently smashed a record-breaking 175 in the U19 World Cup final against England in South Africa, is currently training at Rajasthan Royals’ facility in Talegaon, near Nagpur, preparing for his maiden IPL season.
Sources close to both Suryavanshi and the tournament organizers have confirmed that discussions are progressing well, with chances of the young prodigy representing one of the DY Patil sides being very high.
The annual competition in Navi Mumbai attracts 16 teams and typically features international players using it as crucial preparation ahead of the IPL.
After the RR camp concludes on February 21, Suryavanshi will head to Patna and then his hometown for a promotional event where he’s expected to receive a vehicle, before making his way to Mumbai for the tournament.

Skipping Home For IPL Preparation
Rather than celebrating his World Cup heroics at home, the teenage sensation went directly from South Africa to the Rajasthan Royals camp. “He is currently practising in Talegaon, where the Rajasthan Royals camp is underway. The camp will continue till February 21,” confirmed a source close to him, highlighting the youngster’s dedication to professional cricket.
Tournament Legacy
The DY Patil T20 tournament, launched in 2003, remains one of India’s oldest T20 competitions. The DY Patil Stadium has recently hosted major events, including the Women’s World Cup final and warm-up matches for the ongoing Men’s T20 World Cup, establishing itself as a premier cricketing venue.
