India: 253/7 vs England
This is the highest team score ever in a T20 World Cup knockout match. India posted a jaw-dropping 253/7 against England in the 2026 semi-final, a score nobody had ever come close to in a World Cup knockout before.

Sanju Samson was the star of the show with a blazing 89 off just 42 balls, and Shivam Dube kept the acceleration going with 43 off 25 balls to push India past the 250 mark. England gave everything in the chase as Jacob Bethell hit a stunning 105 off 48 balls to keep them in the hunt, but India held on to win by 7 runs.
England: 246/7 vs India
The very same match in which India scored 253/7 in the 2nd semi-final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, England responded with 246/7, is the highest score ever made by a team batting second in a T20 World Cup knockout.

Jacob Bethell produced an innings for the ages, smashing 105 off 48 balls to keep England swinging even after they lost three top-order wickets in the powerplay. The match aggregate of 499 runs was the highest ever in a men’s T20 World Cup game. England fell just 7 runs short, but their batting effort on this night will not be forgotten for a long time.
West Indies: 205/4 vs Australia
Before India’s 2026 heroics, this was the benchmark for big knockout scores, and it was a total that destroyed Australia. West Indies posted 205/4, powered by Chris Gayle’s unbeaten 75 and Kieron Pollard’s 38, in a semi-final performance that left the Australians with no answer.

Australia’s chase collapsed to 43 for 6 inside eight overs, leaving George Bailey’s team with a mountain too steep to climb. Bailey offered a defiant 63 off 29 balls at the end, but it only narrowed the margin as West Indies won by 74 runs.
Australia: 197/7 vs Pakistan
This was one of the greatest run chases in the T20 World Cup knockout. Australia chased down Pakistan’s 191/6 with just one ball to spare, winning by three wickets in the 2nd semi-final of the 2010 edition.

Pakistan’s Umar Akmal smashed an unbeaten 56 off 35 balls, and his brother Kamran Akmal added 50 off 34 deliveries to set up a good total. Australia was at 5/105 at the 13th overs, needing 92 off the last 7 overs, but Michael Hussey came in and played one of the most breathtaking innings, finishing unbeaten on 60 off just 24 balls. His knock broke Pakistani hearts and sent Australia through to the final against England.
West Indies: 196/3 vs India
West Indies chased down 193 with seven wickets to spare in the 2nd semi-final at Wankhede Stadium.

Virat Kohli had been brilliant for India with an unbeaten 89 off 47 balls, but Lendl Simmons responded with an equally magnificent 82 not out off 51 balls to lead the chase. Johnson Charles also chipped in with 52 off 36, and Andre Russell’s explosive cameo (43 off 20) at the death sealed the deal.
India: 192/2 vs West Indies
This is the same famous 2016 semi-final, but here we are looking at India’s batting effort that set up the contest. Virat Kohli’s 89 not out off 47 balls was nothing short of a batting clinic, taking India to a commanding 192/2 on a flat Wankhede pitch.

Openers Rohit Sharma (43 off 31) and Ajinkya Rahane (40 off 35) shared a 62-run stand to give India a solid platform before Kohli took over completely with not out 89. But West Indies had other ideas, and chased down this target with the half centuries of Johnson Charles and Lendi Simmons
Pakistan: 191/6 vs Australia
Pakistan batted first in the 2010 semi-final and put up a brilliant total that should have been enough to win. Umar Akmal hit an unbeaten 56 off 35 balls, and Kamran Akmal smashed 50 off 34 deliveries to power Pakistan to 191/6 on a fast-scoring ground in St Lucia.

Mohammad Amir took 3 wickets for 35 runs with the ball as Pakistan tried to defend it, and at various points in the chase, they were well on top. But Michael Hussey had other ideas. He, along with Cameron White, chased down the target with 3 wickets in hand.
India: 188/5 vs Australia
This takes us all the way back to the very first T20 World Cup, and a semi-final where India produced a statement batting performance against the best side in the world at the time.

Yuvraj Singh was the standout performer, blasting 70 off just 30 balls to help India post 188/5, a huge total in 2007 when T20 cricket was still finding its feet. India won by 15 runs as Australia fell short on 173/7, with Yuvraj taking the Player of the Match award.
