The Indian Premier League 2026 will not be broadcast in Bangladesh this year, even though the government has recently softened its stance on the ban.

The main reason is simple. There is currently no official broadcaster available in the country after a major contract was terminated.

JioStar Ends Deal With Local Broadcaster

The issue started when JioStar decided to end its agreement with T Sports with immediate effect.

IPL 2026 Telecast Stopped in Bangladesh

The company stated that the decision was taken due to repeated payment delays and failure to meet agreed timelines. Because of this, the partnership could not continue.

This move does not only impact IPL. It also affects the Women’s Premier League broadcast, which was originally planned to run in Bangladesh until 2027.

As a result, Bangladesh currently has no broadcaster with rights to air IPL matches.

Government Still Reviewing the Situation

Even though the Bangladesh government has indicated that it may allow IPL telecasts again, the situation is still unclear.

Authorities have said they will not block any broadcaster that wants to air the matches. However, no company has stepped forward yet to take up the rights.

This means that even if the government officially lifts the ban, fans in Bangladesh still may not be able to watch IPL 2026 on television.

Controversy Around Mustafizur Rahman

The situation goes back to a controversy involving Mustafizur Rahman.

The Bangladesh government had earlier imposed a ban on IPL broadcasts after Rahman was released from the Kolkata Knight Riders squad, despite being bought for a significant amount.

This decision led to criticism and political tension, which played a role in the broadcast ban.

While things have slightly improved now, the absence of a broadcasting partner means IPL 2026 will still not be available for viewers in Bangladesh.
