Multan Sultans began their PSL 2026 campaign with a comfortable five-wicket victory over Islamabad United. Momin Qamar starred with 3/24 to restrict United to 171/8. Mark Chapman top scored with 40 off 21 balls but no batter converted their starts.

In reply, Steven Smith blitzed 31 off 23 balls with three sixes. Josh Philippe anchored the chase with 55 off 35 balls on PSL debut. Captain Ashton Turner remained unbeaten on 42 as the Sultans chased down the target with eight balls to spare.

First Innings Highlights

Devon Conway and Sameer Minhas gave United a brisk start with Conway smashing a four and six off Nawaz early on. However, Peter Siddle dismissed Conway for 26 at deep backward point. Andries Gous fell stumped off Arafat Minhas for 11. Momin Qamar then took centre stage by dismissing Sameer Minhas for 28 and bowling Shadab Khan with a perfect googly.

Consequently, United slumped from promising positions as wickets fell regularly. Mark Chapman counterattacked brilliantly with 40 off 21 balls including two sixes. However, Mohammad Nawaz had him caught at long on.

Furthermore, Momin claimed Haider Ali to complete an outstanding three wicket haul. Faheem Ashraf provided some late hitting with 26 off 17 balls as United finished on a below par 171/8.

Second Innings Highlights

Steven Smith attacked from the start, smashing three sixes in a devastating 21 run fourth over off Salman Mirza. Imad Wasim broke through by dismissing Sahibzada Farhan for 2. Josh Philippe walked in and immediately looked comfortable, sweeping his first boundary off Imad. Smith fell for 31 when Shadab took a sharp catch at mid off.

Meanwhile, Shan Masood contributed just 6 before Shadab had him caught at short third. Philippe and Turner then steadied the chase with a crucial 61 run partnership. Turner launched Shadab for six while Philippe brought up his fifty with a flick for four off Salman Irshad. Shadab dismissed Philippe lbw for 55 with a well disguised googly.

However, Arafat Minhas provided explosive late hitting with 25 off 11 balls. Turner sealed the win with a classy wrist flick for four as the Sultans reached 175/5 in 18.4 overs.
