Blackwell hits century on debut

“It means a lot of have performed well in our first match of the season.  I’ve worked hard in the off season and my form in the pre season tour was pretty good so to have brought that success into the opening match at Lord’s is great.

“It’s not often you get the chance to move to the county champions and I feel very fortunate and privileged to be joining such a forward thinking club.

“I want to make an impact with bat and ball for Durham and help the club to build on the success of the past few years. A spin-off from that could be that I attract the attention of the England selectors.

“I’m flexible where I play and you look at the Durham squad and there are 16/17 players who can play to a good level in the first team, so there is genuine competition for places.

“Durham is moving forward at a hell of a rate. The people of the North East are very welcoming and knowledgeable about their cricket, so this is a great move for me.

“I had a great time at Somerset and was half way through a four year contract when the opportunity to join Durham came up – and it was one I wasn’t going to turn down,” said Blackwell.
