Di Venuto: We’re in the box seat

Di Venuto’s fifty came off 107 balls, “I’m hitting the balls really well and I’m probably haven’t been getting the runs I thought I should, I had a good hundred against Yorkshire but seem to have had some unlucky dismissals, which happens.  It’s nice to stay out there for a while, I guess it was a different type of innings today where it was just a matter of getting stuck in.  They bowled well and with a defensive field so it made it pretty hard to score runs.  It’s pleasing to get through to the end of the day.

Di Venuto thinks that Durham have put themselves in the driving seat for the final day’s play and will return to the crease with Muchall in the morning ready to put the pressure on.  “We’re in the box seat, it’s probably up to us to make the game.  They’ve come out pretty defensive with their bowlers and field places in the second innings so tomorrow we’ll have to look to push on a little bit and hopefully get a score that’s good enough to defend.

“Obviously, we’ve got a decent enough lead at the moment and if we can push that on to over 300 plus we can see where we are and see whether we want to declare and have a crack at bowling them out.”
