Durham CCC named Sport England Team of the Year

Chief Executive, David Harker, and members of the squad were also in attendance, Phil Mustard, Graham Onions, Neil Killeen, Scott Borthwick and Kyle Coetzer, all enjoyed the evening’s proceedings.

Rammi Singh was awarded the Rising Star Award after a season of high scoring for Durham’s Academy and Northumberland Under 15’s.  Rammi’s performances throughout the season brought him to the attention of the national selectors who named him in the national U15’s team and subsequently England’s U15’s.

Chief Executive, David Harker, said, “To get recognition from Sport Newcastle is great for the Club – the team worked well as a unit last season and reaped the rewards.  With start of the 2009 season approaching rapidly we are now putting in the preparation to make sure that the same effort and dedication goes into this year’s campaign.  We received a great deal of support last year, which didn’t go unnoticed, and we want to ensure that those people keep coming back to watch quality match winning cricket.”

Academy Coach, John Windows, said, “Rammi had a brilliant season both for the Academy and for Northumberland last year and he thoroughly deserves his award.  He has got a great attitude and shows real dedication to the game.”

Durham’s first home game of the season is on Sunday 19 April when they play Yorkshire Carnegie in the Friends Provident Trophy on Sunday 19 April (12 noon start).  Tickets are priced at £12 for adults when purchased in advance (£15 on the day) and £5 for juniors (£6 on the day).  Group deals are available for this match.
