Durham Dynamos v Notts Outlaws Match Highlights

Spectators were entertained by over 100 children from the Buzz Dance group as well as the Under 11’s Bowl Out Cup, which was won by Chester le Street Cricket Club before the match started.  Chester the Lion was also beaten in a race by one incredibly fit youngster who won the best seat in the house.

Notts Outlaws captain Chris Read won the toss and elected to field first.  Hawick and Wilton Cricket Club were joined by the mascot to form the guard of honour as the Notts team went out tofield, ahead of openers Phil Mustard and Michael Di Venuto, whose arrival on the field signalled the start of the firework fountains.

Durham were 11-1 after Phil Mustard was caught by Andre Adams off the bowling of Darren Pattison for 7. Michael Di Venuto put on a great parntership adding 50 to the score off just 36 balls before Samit Patel picked up his first wicket of the day when Michael Di Venuto (55) was caught by Alex Hales just after celebrating his half century.

Kyle Coetzer was trapped lbw by Patel for 29 with Durham 112-4 after Ian Blackwell (8) was caught by Chris Read off the bowling of Fletcher.  Dale Benkenstein hit the biggest 6 of the day as it flew directly into the new replay screen next to the pavilion.

Benks (48) and Will Smith (17) lasted the remainder of the overs with Benks finishing just two shy of his half century after smashing five sixes in his 18 ball innings.

During the interval the winners of the Bowl Out Cup were presented with their winners certificates by Durham all rounder Will Gidman.

Mitchell Claydon claimed the first wicket of the day when Gareth Breese caught Alex Hales (12) in the first over.  Breesy had a hand in the following two dismissals, running out Bilal Shafayat on 7 and then handing Claydon his second scalp of the day when he caught Brown (11).

Samit Patel was trapped lbw off the bowling of Graham Onions for just one run leaving Notts 50-4 after seven overs. Ben Harmison sent Will Jefferson (42) back to the dressing room in the thirteenth over when he was caught on the boundary in front of the pavilion by Kyle Coetzer, bringing Chris Read to the crease with Notts 103-5 after 14 overs.

Notts overseas player Adam Voges (33) was Claydon’s third victim after he was caught by Neil Killeen.  Chris Read (12) reluctantly left the crease after a fine catch from the Durham captain on the boundary.  Andre Adams hit 20 off eight balls including a huge six which had to be retrieved from the Notts dressing room before Will Smith struck again, catching him off the bowling of Neil Killeen.

The Outlaws needed 10 runs off the last over to win, a challenge that was all the more difficult when Claydon bowled Fletcher (1) with the second ball.  Mitchell brought the Outlaws innings to an end with two balls to spare when he bowled Ealham for 21, handing Durham victory by 8 runs.
