Durham lose to Highveld Strikers by 42 Runs

In the fourth match of their pre season tour of South Africa Highveld Strikers played host to Durham CCC.

Batting first Highveld Lions posted a very competitive 298 from their 50 overs. All rounder Liam Plunkett picked up 3 wickets for 59 runs and off spinner Paul Wiseman 2 – 19. Will Gidman and Callum Thorp also picked up a wicket each.

In reply Durham were bowled out in the 50th over 42 runs short. Contributions with the bat included Ben Harmison 55, Mark Stoneman 54, Gareth Breese 42 and Will Smith 31.

Wednesday 1 April         Durham v North West

Durham continued their fine pre season form with a 73 run victory over South African side North West.

Contributions with the bat included a fine 80 from Gordon Muchall and 59 from Dale Benkenstein. Graham Onions did the main damage with the ball claiming 5 – 26. He was well backed up with Claydon picking up two and Blackwell, Gidman and P Muchall all contributing one wicket.

Monday 30 March       Durham CCC v North West Invita

Ian Blackwell collected three more wickets to add to his three in the opening tour match.
Ben Harmison collected two wickets bowling 10 economical overs for only 35 runs.

New captain Will Smith and all rounder Liam Plunkett both contributed scores in the 70’s as Durham got home by two wickets with one ball to spare. 

Friday 27 March      Durham CCC  v Worcestershire CCC

Early reports from South Africa confirm that Durham won the opening match of their tour today (Friday) when they beat Worceshire CCC, who are also touring in the same area.

Durham CCC posted a total of 239 all out in 49.2 overs.  The Durham bowling attack restricted Worcestershire’s reply to just 85 with new signing Ian Blackwell and Mitchell Claydon both taking 3-10.
