Emirates confirmed as Twenty20 Cup sponsor

Emirates, the award-winning global airline, has become the official Twenty20 Shirt sponsor of Durham County Cricket Club.

The Dubai-based airline has been committed to sports sponsorship around the world for twenty years, which includes a strong focus around cricket. This Durham County Cricket sponsorship will join an already extensive cricket portfolio.  In addition to its Official partnership with the ICC until 2015, Emirates is official sponsor of Cricket Australia, the ICC Elite Panel of Umpires, the Pro Arch Trophy, the Lord’s Taverners, and the forthcoming World Twenty20 in England in June this year.

The new relationship will be getting off to a flying start on Tuesday with Emirates flying the Durham cricket squad out from Newcastle International airport to Johannesburg, South Africa for the club’s pre-season training.

Emirates will receive considerable exposure through the new sponsorship, as the airline will have prominent branding at the Riverside ground, as well as on the team shirts.

Maurice Flanagan, executive vice-chairman of Emirates Airline & Group, said: “The popularity and excitement that surrounds the Twenty20 game is unquestionable. Twenty20 continues to transform the domestic game and has generated a huge following both through the media and the enthusiastic fans at the matches.”

“The sponsorship of Durham County Cricket Club further strengthens our association with the wonderful game of cricket as well as the North East of England, and we certainly look forward to developing this relationship with one of the front runners in English domestic cricket.”

Durham CCC Chief Executive, David Harker. added: “As the competiveness of the Twenty20 game increases with each season, it is a credit to the club that we have been able to attract a sponsor of the calibre of Emirates Airline.”

“Durham County Cricket Club experienced its most successful season to date in 2008 and with the support of a world class sponsor such as Emirates, we hope to build towards even more domestic success this season.”

Tickets for this year’s Twenty20 Cup are now on sale, priced at £40 for adults and £20 for juniors for a 5 match pass.  Individual match tickets are priced at £12 for adults and £5 for juniors when purchased in advance (£15 for adults and £6 for juniors on the day).
