Essex/Kent v Durham A

Casing 157 to win Turner and Gidman again contributed with the bat 40 and 57 respectively. Ben Harmison then added 32 as Durham cruised home with six wickets in hand.

Progressing on 92 – 1 Will Gidman and Karl Turner moved Durham along to 127 before Gidman departed for 49. Ben Harmison joined Turner in the middle before Turner was run out for an excellent 87. From 169-3 Durham began to lose wickets at more regular intervals with only Ben Harmison holding the rest of the innings together with 51. Durham were all out for 293 in 95.1 overs.

With a lead of 108 Durham looked to pick up early wickets and put the pressure on this combined Essex/Kent side. Opening Bowler Rushworth then starred with the new ball as he picked up the first five wickets in a nine over spell. Rushworth returned figures of 9-2-28-5 as Essex/Kent slumped to 52-5. Paul Muchall then picked up wicket number six as Essex/Kent finished on 101-6 still trailing by 7 runs.

After winning the toss and choosing to field Durham A put in a strong performance on the opening day of their four day match against Essex/Kent.

Durham made the best possible start to the day with Rushworth picking up two wickets with no score on the board. Following a third wicket from opening bowler Luke Evans, Ben Harmison contributed three wickets and Rushworth one more as Essex/Kent lost wickets at regular intervals.

The main resistance came from number seven batsmen Westfield who scored 56 before being dismissed by off spinner Paul Wiseman who picked up two wickets in his only over.  Young leg spinner Scott Borthwick picked up the final wicket as Essex/Kent were dismissed for 185.

Durham had thirty two overs left in the day and Scott Borthwick and Karl Turner opened the batting looking to push Durham into a strong position.  Borthwick was dismissed for 11 with 30 on the board however Gidman joined Turner in the middle and the pair led Durham to 92 for the loss of only one wicket. Turner was on 43 and Gidman 32 as Durham will look to progress towards a big on Day.
