Onions and Chanderpaul up for ICC gongs

Onions has been recognised for the impressive start he made to his Test career, in which he has taken 20 wickets at 25 apiece in five Tests since his debut in May.

Onions claimed 5-38 – and match figures of 7-102 – on his England debut against West Indies at Lord’s in the first Test of the English summer, and figured in three of the five Ashes Tests.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul has also been nominated for the One Day International player of the Year.

ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat said: “It is a chance for followers of our great sport to reflect on some of the great cricketing feats they have witnessed over the past year.

“This will be the sixth time the awards have been handed out and yet again there are so many great performances to recall. Selecting the winners will no doubt test our selectors and voting academy.”
