Onions picks up 5 wickets on Test debut

Graham Onions picked up five wickets on his Test debut for England against the West Indies at Lord’s today, which will see his name added to the historic board of players who have taken five-for at the venue over the years.

Head Coach Geoff Cook saw the wickets fall whilst Durham were playing Sussex at Hove in the LV County Championship.

“We’re really pleased for Graham.  It’s his third five wicket performance this season and he’s bowled really well for us early on and he’s done the same for England today.  England is trying to get a good squad of bowlers together and obviously Stephen is in that squad, Liam is on the periphery and we’re delighted if Durham players get selected.

“He was desperate to get some form back after his injury last year.  We had a settled unit at that time and it was difficult for him to get back in.  When you’re out of the game it gives you a bit of time to assess where you are and what’s going to take you forward and he did that during the winter.  Has come back strong, with a little bit of luck and he’s capitalised on that”

Graham could make his first appearance for England in front of a home crowd at the Riverside in the npower Test Match when they face the West Indies at Riverside next week (14-18 May).  Why not come down and support the latest North East addition to the England set up – tickets are still available priced from £35 for adults and £10 for juniors.  Contact the Box Office on 0844 499 4466.
