Smith: We need to draw a line under the loss and move on

While obviously disappointed with Durham’s loss, captain Will Smith thinks that a line has to be drawn under the competition and shift focus to the LV= County Championship and NatWest Pro40 and importantly, developing individual match winning efforts within the side.

“We didn’t perform with the bat or the ball, we’ve just had a bit of a chat up there and throughout the back end of these group stages of the competition we’ve been good and our skills have been applied at the right time and our mental application has always been spot on.

“Today we were found slightly wanting for one reason or another.  It’s something we need to get more consistent at doing and putting in match winning efforts consistently from other people other than Benki (Dale Benkenstein), he seems to do it every time.  We’ve just got to take personal responsibility and we need everyone else in the team to try and do it each game.  It’s not a case of just saying that we’re going to do it, we have to think about how we do it, the processes involved and how we go about chasing down a target like that.  Obviously it’s disappointing to lose today but we’ve got a great opportunity with the NatWest Pro40 to put those sort of applications into practice and move things on.

“We’re out of this competition but there are still two other competitions to win.  We’ll draw a line under it and move on, focussing on the Pro40 and the Championship now”, said Smith.
