Babar Azam has been dropped from Pakistan’s ODI squad for the upcoming three-match series against Bangladesh, capping a dismal few months for the former captain who struggled throughout the T20 World Cup 2026 and during his Big Bash League stint with Sydney Sixers.

Babar’s Struggles Lead to Exclusion

The 31-year-old has been under immense pressure following a string of poor performances.

After an ordinary debut BBL campaign, Babar was demoted to No.4 during the T20 World Cup before being dropped entirely for Pakistan’s crucial final Super 8 match against Sri Lanka, which they needed to win by a massive margin to reach the semifinals.

Babar managed just 91 runs in six tournament appearances at an average of 22.75 and a strike rate of 112.3, highlighting his struggles in the shortest format.

Six Uncapped Players Get Opportunity

In a bold move signaling a complete overhaul, selectors have included six uncapped players in the 15-man squad. T20 World Cup leading run-scorer Sahibzada Farhan headlines the group of debutants.

Joining him are Abdul Samad, Maaz Sadaqat, Muhammad Ghazi Ghori, Saad Masood, and Shamyl Hussain. All five recently featured for Pakistan Shaheens against England Lions.

Rizwan and Rauf Retained

Mohammad Rizwan, who was not included in the T20 World Cup squad, has retained his position as wicketkeeper in the 50-over setup. Pace bowler Haris Rauf also holds onto his spot despite Pakistan’s disappointing World Cup campaign.

Series Details

All three ODI matches will be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on March 11, 13, and 15. Shaheen Shah Afridi will lead the team.
