Karachi Kings made it three wins from three games with a five wicket victory over Rawalpindi Pindiz at Gaddafi Stadium. Azam Khan delivered a match winning 74 off 34 balls after being promoted to number four.

Sam Billings and Daryl Mitchell had earlier stitched a 120 run fourth wicket stand to power the Pindiz to 197/6. Mitchell top scored with 65 off 41 balls while Billings contributed 58 off 35 balls. The Kings lost early wickets but David Warner’s steady 50 off 36 balls laid the platform.

Azam then exploded with six fours and six sixes to take the game away from the Pindiz. Abbas Afridi sealed the deal with a towering six off Daryl Mitchell with four balls remaining.

First Innings: Billings and Mitchell Build Pindiz Total

Mohammad Rizwan started aggressively with three fours off Moeen Ali in the opening over. Naseem Shah struck back by bowling Muhammad Waseem for 23 after the opener dragged a pull onto his stumps.

Khushdil Shah then removed both Yasir Khan and Kamran Ghulam as the Pindiz slumped to 62/3. That brought Billings and Mitchell together for a game changing partnership. Billings flicked the switch in the 13th over, smashing 19 runs off Khushdil’s bowling.

Mitchell reached his fifty with a lofted drive off Adam Zampa and followed it with a six off Mir Hamza. Hasan Ali eventually broke the stand by bowling Billings for 58. The veteran pacer finished with 3/24 including two wickets in the final over.

Second Innings: Azam Khan Takes Game Away From Pindiz

Waseem opened with two fours off Amir’s first ball before Naseem bowled him for 23. Salman Agha survived a torrid spell from Mohammad Amir Khan, getting beaten five times in one over before carving a six over point.

Daryl Mitchell outsmarted Agha with a wider delivery to have him caught behind for 29. Warner and Azam Khan then took charge of the chase. Warner played the anchor role with controlled strokeplay while Azam unleashed his power game.

The promotion to number four paid off as Azam smashed a six off Naseem’s short ball and followed it with 15 runs off Mohammad Amir’s over. He punished Cole McConchie with back to back sixes in the 17th over to reduce the equation to a formality. Dropped catches by the Pindiz fielders only added to their misery.

Warner fell for exactly 50 trying to pull Mitchell but the damage was done. Azam eventually holed out for 74 before Abbas Afridi launched a match winning six off the very next ball.
