Unmukt Chand last played in domestic cricket in the USA. He last featured in the Major League Cricket and also played in the Minor League Cricket, but has not been selected for the USA national team in official international matches.

Despite strong domestic performances, over 500 runs in 19 innings in Major League Cricket, he is completely ignored from the USA squad for international matches. He was excluded from the USA squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup and other official series, such as the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 ODI series and T20 series against Canada.

After not being selected in the 2024 T20I World Cup, he was extremely depressed. During an interview with Cricbuzz, he said, “That wasn’t an ideal situation to be in. Because personally, for me, this was what I had dreamed of for the last three years. It was a big shock. And it took me some time to come to terms with it. It’s never easy as a player, having lost all those things back home in India, to have this one goal, which had kept me going for the last three years, not happening.”

Unmukt is not playing for the USA national cricket team despite being eligible since 2024. Initially, there were multiple rumors of Unmukt’s inclusion in the 2024 T20 World Cup, but he was not selected for the Tournament. Thus, as of mid-2025, Unmukt Chand is eligible but not part of the USA national team squad for international events.

Unmukt Chand’s Journey From India to USA Cricket

In 2012, Unmukt captained the India Under-19 cricket team to a memorable victory in the ICC U19 World Cup held in Australia. In the final against Australia, he scored 111* off 130 balls and guided India to a six-wicket win in the third U19 World Cup title.

He joined Mohammad Kaif and Virat Kohli in the elite list. He was the top scorer of the tournament, and cricket experts announced him as the next big thing in the cricket world.

Following this early success, he also impressed everyone in domestic cricket. Later, he made his IPL debut in 2011 for the Delhi Capitals (fka Delhi Daredevils) and later played for the Rajasthan Royals and the Mumbai Indians.

Despite his talent, his transition to senior professional cricket in India didn’t replicate U19 success. He struggles to capitalize on limited opportunities and cannot secure a permanent place in the national team or IPL teams.

In 2021, he retired from Indian cricket and shifted his focus to playing for the USA. He played for the MLC and the USA national teams, although he also represented them. Unmukt also played for the BBL’s Melbourne Renegades in 2022. He became the first Indian male to play in the BBL.
